Had a good late lunch and ET never disappoints. We were doing the touristy thing and wandered down Cannery Row and always try to stop for a bite and margaritas at ET. Since we don't have an ET back home anymore, we HAD to stop. Drinks and appetizers were good. read more

El Torito - Early happy hour with Babe and Baby Girl... - Mexican Near Me - Monterey, California

Food: not bad, not great. But not bad. A small group of us went here for a lunch before visiting the Monterrey Bay Aquarium (easy 5 minute walk away). While the food was good (again, not great, but good), the service was ok. Why go here? The view is really lovely. If you can score a window seat, enjoy the ocean. Really, it is quite special just for the view. read more

Decided to try getting breakfast from El Torito today. Usually our family goes for dinner but decided to give it a shot and was not disappointed at all. Gaby, our server, who was a total sweetheart recommended I had to try the breakfast fries. Delicious by the way. Her service alone will keep me coming back. read more

Really wanted El Torito and we were in the area so decided to stop by, should have known it was going to go sour when the host was not even pretending to be friendly. The service was horrible and they seemed to be out of a lot of items in the kitchen. Disappointed we decided to dine here instead of something else down the street. read more

Beyond flavorless. My goodness. I cannot believe how bad this food tastes. What did you do? Point a flavor gun at this food and take ever positive taste our of the chicken, steak and shrimp? How did you do that? I am honestly impressed, but in a bad way. Did you try to make it bad? If so, how? How did you get solid cuts of meat and make them so worthless? Please chiefs, quit what you are doing and find some different profession, this is not your purpose in life. read more

Yuck, yuck, yuck...all of it. The front of the restaurant is in need of some major repairs. The pillars are almost falling down and the bill in the front is missing it's paint. The smell inside is disgusting, the only thing I can compare it to is the smell of a club at 2:00 am when all the spilled liquor is on the floor and everybody's sweaty and there's a hint of a puke smell. () it took forever for somebody to come to our table but when they did they informed us they had no chips. (An el Torito with no chips...say what) we then went to order and my son requested the kids chicken strips with corn on the cob. We were told "sorry we're out of corn on the cob". So, out of chips, out of corn surely that would be the end of it right? Nope. My son then said how excited he was to order a sundae after his meal which was followed up by "we're out of that". holy cow. After looking around we decided to only order an appetizer and let our kiddo do a kids meal, but we certainly were not going to spend a dime more than we had to here. While we were eating a table was sat behind us and nobody ever came to greet them, so 20 minutes later they finally left. I can't say that the lack of customer service was due to being short staffed because there were plenty of servers at the bar arguing over stuff the entire time. So, bottom line, skip it and eat literally anywhere else, McDonald's would ever be better. read more

The new revamp looks beautiful! And let's talk about the new hires. WOW! Whoever hired Tyler, pat yourself on the back AND SOME. Service was always pretty rough there on a "not busy night," and the other day, we came in when it was REALLY busy. We almost left to be honest. But let me tell you... I probably had MORE service on this busy night, than what you could get on a slow night in the past. I used to be a regular, and it just got so bad that I took El Torito off the restaurant option list. Believe me when I say, Tyler made me a believer again. Tyler if you're reading this, just know that my girlfriend, my mother and I who ate about 10 boats of chips appreciate you. Not to mention me who drank 2 double shot mango strawberry margaritas! They were DELICIOUS read more

We made 11:45 reservation and waited over an hr to be seated, due to zero time cap on stay. Where people wait to be seated makes the outside area completely none desirable. After coming her for well over a decade with my family, I can't say I wish to return anytime soon. read more

El Torito - Mexican Near Me - Monterey, California

Crazy, thoughtless rules and service here. You can order food at the bar but they tell you it will take longer because the runners serve the tables first. The tables that are 4 feet away from us. And indeed we waited a half hour for our food. Another couple put their name in the list to be seated. Wanted drinks and guacamole. Could have the chips, but not the guacamole because they are waiting for a regular table. I would not come back here again ever and I would not recommend it. They don't seem to give off much of a hospitality vibe. read more

By far the worst Mexican restaurant, like ever. Went there for Sunday brunch and it was beyond terrible. The waiter for our table was actually very nice, but the serving staff behind the food/buffet tables were terribly rude. The food was not good at all. You stood in line for your buffet selections and people would just come up and cut in front of you. There were spider webs in the corners of the windows where we were seated. We will never return to this restaurant and would never recommend it to anyone. They should be closed down. read more

Kitchen was broken for 2 hours service was alright pretty standard americanized Mexican food. Reasonable price for food due to the area other places are much more pricey nice views as well. read more

The food was ok but honestly the service was awful. I am taking into consideration Covid and outdoor seating and all of that as I wrote this. Still sitting at our table for 1.5 hours and having to ask our server at least twice for everything including our check. The restaurant was not busy at all with 3 servers and several busses and runners and less than 10 tables occupied. Would not recommend despite the gorgeous view. read more

Piece of shit. Not worth it for a penny, all the management is sucks, nobody cares about you, no recommended

The 5 of us had the most wonderful experience, this evening. Our server Manny was excellent. The food was amazing and the view is a lil bit of heaven. Thank you, so much for such a great time. read more

There was a completely understandable 25 minute wait for our table, it was Friday night. We decided to wait in the bar and have cocktails. We were told we could not sit at any of the high top tables because it would confuse the servers. ‍ So we sat at the crowded bar while all the high top tables in the bar sat empty. And yes, they had a cocktail waitress. read more

Thee worst service I've ever had. I don't even know where to start. The drinks we received were melted margaritas. We never got 2 entrees of food. My husband and mom didn't get to eat after ordering and waiting for 2 hours. Everyone was mixing plates up with different tables. They had a bowl of soup in two little cup and said we no longer have bowls. On top of giving us a quarter cup of coffee and telling us "That's all we have left". I would have been better off without it. No one knew what the hell they were doing. No manger was on site. I'm pretty sure we could have left without paying it was that bad. Don't waste your time. read more

Update The owner reached out to me and without any excuses issued a refund and apologized for the service I had that night. I will go back based on the owners response. I understand the issues with Covid but come El Torito. We ordered Chicken strips with ranch and fries. 1 order of Nachos Supremos Chicken. Checked in 5 minutes before our time was told it would be right up, nope about 10 minutes after our time the food came out. Got to hotel 1 block from restaurant chicken was cold no fries and no ranch. Nachos were cold to a point the cheese could be picked up in one piece and there was maybe at most a teaspoon of sauce. Would like a response from the manager. Food was deposited in the trash were it belongs and we paid for another dinner at Gianni's. read more

Some of the worst Mexican food I've had in my life. Terrible service, dirty facilities, and the wait time to get our food was ridiculous. First and last time coming to this restaurant. 2 stars because the beautiful view ! read more

Food was absolutely terrible. We went for breakfast and they were not terribly busy. It was windy and freezing but they had no patio heaters. My boyfriends sausage/bacon omelet had no bacon, pancakes were raw, my son had an eggshell in his, potatoes were soggy, and the eggs Benedict were drowning in cold sauce. Seriously fast food would have been better read more

Service was terrible very disorganized slow and little attention to detail when it came to the order.

My husband and I were decided to spend the 4th of July Monterey we said OK let's eat Mexican food we went to El Torito for Sunday morning brunch it was the worst service and the worst food I ever had in my entire life and I love Mexican food but please do not go there. San Francisco read more

The server did an excellent job. Felt every welcome. Ordered steak well done and the steak was raw and extremely chewy. Informed server that I had asked for my steak to be fully well done and cook then took it back and once my "fresh steak" was brought back it was the same not well done piece of steak with no difference at all as if they had just tossed it in the microwave. Unfortunately having to had ate a few bites of my steak resulted with myself being stuck in the toilet for a good while. Very dissatisfied. read more

Thank goodness for whoever made the necessary changes to this restaurant; because it has gotten waaaaay better over the past year! The food, the look, the staff. Big improvement! But, the absolute best part of our whole dining experience was Nick, the manager. He is absolutely fabulous! He was personable, professional and made an effort to touch the tables and help out his staff. He made an ordinary Friday night turn into a great one. I would keep coming back just for him. As someone who used to work in hospitality, he is the epitome of customer service! read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE. I had an iced water and I drank the whole thing without noticing that it had BLACK FOOD SPECS in it. If I get sick from this place I'm suing. I should have remembered to take a picture but I forgot. Don't go here unless you want to be served dirty asss water. read more

Came here for happy hour today. Good price and decent food and drinks for happy hour. What made the experience 5 stars was our server, Francisco "Poncho"! He was very attentive. Came here and sat at the bar. The bartender had been busy and was clearing empty used glasses. He grabbed them all from the inside and never once washed his hands. He continued to make drinks and touch clean glasses, he also grabbed the clean glasses from the inside as well so all the dirty used drinks germs were passed to those. A server then came in and grabbed a pitcher and asked if it was a water pitcher. The bartender stated he didn't know so the server dipped it into the ice bucket and filled it with water not know if it was clean. These are things that would gross me out on a normal day but then add COVID to this and for goodness sake wash your hands! In addition the restrooms had no paper products and were filthy! read more

I ordered a Chile relleno and wasn't expecting just one. The food was somewhat authentic, but service was great, and drinks were great.

Rose was fabulous! Food was great! The view is wonderful! Mimosas were rolling! Such a good time!

Very disappointed with the food. Chips were stale, margarita was not good. I suspect they are suffering from lack of help. Our server was great, just the food left a lot to be desired. We did not get past the drink, chips & salsa, table side guacamole. The latter being ok. We left and finished our meal at Bubba Gumps. read more
