El Tacorrido is giving "is this a tiny shack or a taco goldmine?" energy and honestly... both can be true. It's that blink and you'll miss it drive thru setup, but the tacos come out fast, cheap, and way better than you'd expect. The salsa actually has some personality, and I love that they hold it down with solid vegan and vegetarian options too. For pure convenience and price, it's an easy 4 stars. This is the kind of place you pull up to, spend next to nothing, and roll out happy. Only thing, that guac will test your loyalty a little on price... but wow, it's actually really good, so I let it slide. The service was excellent and the ambience is chill. This is not a restaurant where you can sit inside the venue but they do have two benches outside. I will warn you it's there's no public restrooms so your best bet is to do drive thru. I ordered a flour potato/egg and bacon/cheese/egg tacos. It's my normal 9pm taco spot. But tonight it was a let down. The only tacos they had in stock were bistec and chicken. They had no potatoes. No salsa. They were barely a taco place. The menu of what was actually available was basically 5 things. The people working were nice and good. But they had no stock. It was crazy. Everytime I visit Austin, I have to get tacos. Austin to me, is the taco capital of Texas, quite possibly the US. Such delicious tacos, such delicious and authentic variety. El Tacorrido found me at just the right time and helped me end my night perfectly. I found it on Yelp of course, a quick drive from my hotel and just before their closing time. Thank goodness for Yelp. I passed by McDonald's and Taco Bell along my way. Had I not known Tacorrido was just a littler farther away, I might've ended my night not so perfectly with one of these not so great fast food options. I pulled up and it was super dark and looked a tad bit sketch but hey, anything for tacos! Had I not seen another car in the drive thru I'm not sure if I would've stopped. The place kinda reminded me of a speakeasy in that it looked like it was trying to hide. Anyway the lady who took my order was super kind and helpful. They had a great variety and I was so excited to be there. She was super patient and kind and even changed my order for me a couple time. I could tell she really appreciated my business and wanted me to get exactly what I wanted. She also told me all about the salsas from mild to very spicy. The sauces had certain names and I regret I can't recall the names of each but what I can recall is to steer clear of the spiciest option. The way she described it, it is a real mouth burner and tear inducer. I pulled around to collect my food at the pick up window which was covered with stickers. You can not see a thing through the window unless they have it open. This was part of the reason they looked so dark and closed from afar. I thought this was pretty cool though. Anyway, the young lady at the second windows was also very kind. She complimented my makeup and offered my pup a bacon slice. I was giddy, eating my steak, barbacoa and chorizo & egg tacos on corn tortillas once I got back to my hotel room. My dog was giddy too, munching on her bacon. I'm kidding. I actually didn't end up giving my dog the bacon slice. I didn't want it to upset her stomach, late at night and away from home. My tacos however? Love their food but portions have been varying lately. Consistency is lacking at times. I just ordered two breakfast tacos my way which included avocado. I could not believe this time had only one tiny sliver each. Don't charge $.50 for one tiny sliver of avocado and then hide it under all the other ingredients. This place is fantastic. They have great hours, usually pretty fast service, and the tacos absolutely slap for a fair price. I come here at least 2-4 times a week. I usually order Barbacoa on corn, Al Pastore on corn, or chorizo egg and cheese on corn. The green salsa You can get 3 tacos for under $10 vs all these other places where I can't be full for under $15-$20. Try them. You won't regret it. Ordering was simple; choose from a dozen items on a flour or corn tortilla, plus sauce. My BT is an egg, ham, and cheese, add bacon on a flour tortilla with a spicy sauce. I love spreading it on my taco. Absolutely delicious. A couple of these babies, and you have here a happy camper. Especially, around $6. Very good value. I have also munched on their El Pastor and carne asada tacos. The same rule follows. Overstuff taco with plenty of protein, onions, and cilantro. Real tasty taco. Right flavor profile. It's a small, drive through only location, of which they have multiple throughout the city. But I can definitely tell you, do not EVER judge a book by its cover. These tacos were flat out amazing! We ordered the Revuelta taco and I wish we ordered 5 more. Each bite was like a blast of perfectly tender meat filled with so much flavor, you simply couldn't stop eating. This place is the epitome of the out-of-control tipping culture. At the window, they will ask you for a card, take it, put it into the handheld card reader, and then hold it out to you through the drive through window asking for a signature. Well if you don't look closely and just sign, you are paying a 20% tip. Yes that's right, a 20% tip AT A DRIVE THROUGH. They don't ask you to tip, they don't say that a tip is on the bill. but yes, the default is you paying is a 20% tip at a drive through, unless you manually change the tip, every single time. The thing is, as of 2018 Visa, Mastercard, and Amex dont even require a signature for a purchase. When is the last time you had to sign when paying with a card at a fast food restaurant? All of this is just a scam to get you to pay an extra 20% every time. Awful read more

Instead of a person at the window waiting for the customer to greet them, the person accepting orders this evening was courteous and got our selections into the kitchen without a hitch. The food, however, did not meet expectations. Specifically, the quesadilla. I ordered a pastor quesadilla, but I received three pastor tacos with melted cheese and pineapples. Although the flavors were great, I paid for a quesadilla, which clearly I did not get. I used to order from this location frequently because I lived a few blocks away from it, but now I know that going back to the restaurant is not going to happen. Over the past couple of years, the food and service have gone downhill at this location. The one on Riverside is so much better. I've been to this location a handful of times and have not been disappointed. I am a creature of habit and tend to just get El Equinox which is an iced horchata with a shot of espresso. My daughter wasn't feeling like getting anything so she stuck to what she knows and that was a Jarritos. I love the food at El Tacorrido, and the service has always been wonderful too, and for a very fair price. This should be a five star review but alas this place has one fatal flaw. There are two giant potholes in the drive through which the owners have still somehow not fixed. It's insane. I guess you could park and go to the walk up window, but that's a whole thing. Given that the majority of El Tacorrido's business is from drive up customers, you would think they would not want the vast majority of their customers to have to traverse that shit. I HIGHLY recommend El Tacorrido if you drive a Jeep, but otherwise you might want to stay away. EDIT: It appears they fixed the bigger of the two potholes. Once they fix the other one I can give this place the full amount of stars it deserves! read more

The carnitas tacos are some of the best things I've ever shoved in my mouth. They are my go to tacos here. The carne has a great flavor and with just onions and some cilantro makes a great taco.
