Good burritos and street tacos. Also tortas and a few other things we didn't try. The portions are generous, and the mild green salsa we opted for had just a good amount of kick. If you don't like spicy, definitely ask for salsa on the side so you can control the heat factor. This location is right off the 99, and we particularly appreciated the outdoor eating areas since we were traveling with our dog. It has a patio with table umbrellas right off the building and also two tree-shaded picnic tables along a grassy area next to the parking lot that was was perfect on an 80-degree March day. It does seem a little pricey at first, but then we realized that the combos include a drink. One also has to factor in the fast-food minimum wage in California that is higher than for restaurant servers. Overall, we would stop again when traveling through. read more

I don't know if my food took a wrong turn or just gave up on life before it reached me. The meat was so dry I needed a lifeguard just to swallow it. The tortillas tasted like they'd been sitting out since last Tuesday, and the whole thing had less flavor than plain cardboard. If this is what "fresh" tastes like, I'm officially concerned. Even my napkins looked more appetizing. I came hungry and left wondering if I should've just eaten the salsa packets instead. Definitely not coming back unless they start serving food with moisture. read more

Service was horrible and the food wasn't good at all. I've had the one in Bakersfield and it's way better than this one. Disappointed.

Nice that it is right off the highway and 24 hour drive thru! Plenty of pork on the tacos and the pastor was well seasoned. Lots of radishes to level out the Heat. Good stop. #spicemeister approved. read more

El Taco Loco - 3 Pastor Tacos - Mexican Near Me - Bakersfield, California

El Taco Loco is spacious and a good stop for the long roadtrips. They have the typical Mexican food options: taco, burrito, sopes, tortas. For the food: The tacos are good, but get salsa on the side otherwise they'll drench the tacos. I'd skip the blended frappucino drinks and stick with the classic agua frescas. read more

Carne asada burrito was great, the meat was not dry at all. Tacos were lengua, pretty good as well. Staff was very nice, rather eat here than at the truck stops fast food places - the food is fresh. Drive thru customer: the crew is small likely because they're off the beaten path, service is a bit slower because of that but still very good. The food: outstanding. Excellent flavors and perfect spice level. Tried burrito Al pastor and it was stuffed full! Not super big so I could handle it mostly with one hand. The frescas were outstanding too. The horchata is one of the best I've ever had. read more

Perfect stop if you are traveling north. We stopped here on our way to Yosemite. I'm sure glad we did. I love authentic Mexican food. It's near and dear to my heart. We absolutely loved the food. Great quality and fresh. The establishment is also very clean and has a good atmosphere. Not fancy. It's a quick eat kind of place. I had a beef sope and 1 was a good portion for me. This crispy maize boat was overflowing with juicy beef chunks. It was dripping all over my plate and had to finish with a fork. Very generous helping of meat. More than I wanted, but I'm not going to complain. Ha ha. The salsa was amazing. I 100% recommend this place on your travels through the area. There are other familiar places to eat like corporate fast food giants, but don't miss out on this little gem. Skip the fast food and get some homemade Mexican food here! read more

Do not stop here! This place sucks! We spent $30 for them to get my order wrong. I said to put the taco sauce to the side and they still had it on the tacos! And I ordered a quesadilla, and she heard that as nachos. I went back inside to tell them, and she gave me attitude! Even threw my food at the counter. Horrible! Teach your employees manners and better listening skills. Smh. The food isn't even good! You get better food at a taco stand! read more

Not good. Not good at all. It took a long time in the drive through to get my food, with no other customers. The order was wrong and did not taste good. We did not eat more than a few bites and threw it away at the next stop and ended up having to eat Wendy's. A sad and overpriced burrito. read more

I got food here several times this summer while going up and down 99. I must say I'm so glad I stopped here, it has never disappointed. The bowls are great, asada is perfect. Everything is cooked and seasoned well. There are many beverage options and a great selection of food. The staff has always been courteous and friendly. It's a great place to get a fast yummy meal, it is addictive though. I wish we had a El Taco Loco north of Sacramento. I will be back again. Okay read more

Good place to stop for quick road side mexican. It's 24 hrs. They even do truck side delivery in parking lot. Quickly ordered from nice cashier. I ate at a Taco Loco food truck in the 80's and have been driving by this location for years, which is right across from the Flying J truck stop. The location originally built as a fast food national franchise. Ordered a torta pastor sandwich, tasty pork, fresh slices of onion, tomato and avocado. The Jamaica was good and not too sweet. Would stop again. My visit was about 12:24 and place was 1/3 full with people coming in to pick up orders. read more

I accidentally passed by most of the restaurants in Bakersfield when driving on the 99, so I ended up at El Taco Loco. I was pleasantly surprised by the clean and inviting environment and delicious food! The chicken in the burritos tasted fresh and was generously portioned. It is also right next to a Pilot gas station with pretty inexpensive gas. Would plan this as a stop on our next road trip. read more

Been eating there for 20 years. When it's good, it's good, when it is bad, it's bad. High turn over rate in new employees. They hire really good people however, they do not pay them on time, have them work overtime a lot and do not pay for overtime. They have ONE Lady who makes the best Tres Leches Cake and places an Oreo cookie on each big piece of cake, this lady can make a cake, let me tell you. She comes and goes with them. Because of the way they pay her. Advice to whom ever is in charge of this LOCATION El Taco Loco pay your employees, treat them better so they stay and the people who live out here have some good damn eats...You are totally screwing up. I've driven past this place a couple times on my way to Delano for work and I finally decided to stop by as work had me going to Delano again today for a job. I opted to go for the chorizo burrito, it just sounded good today and boy did I choose right. The chorizo itself was delicious, just packed full of flavor. There was plenty of rice, beans and cilantro in the burrito as well. The red salsa was really tasty and the perfect addition to the burrito. If I had one criticism it would be that it needs more meat or the meat needs to be more evenly dispersed. The top quarter of the burrito was packed with chorizo but as I ate down further there was less and less until I found next to none near the bottom. Overall a good experience though and I'll definitely stop by again sometime. read more

Went here late at night with my boyfriend and his brother and we all got a burrito. The consensus was that they were good, not spectacular. The prices though almost $45 for three burritos is outrageous and the management is price gouging it's customers! Just because it's a 24/7 location and tucked away amid a rest area on the side of a long highway doesn't mean you should charge so much for food. That's awful. Another thing that we noticed is that one of the burritos was much larger than the others. It had a couple extra ingredients more than the others, like salsa and sour cream but those ingredients don't add up to half of a burrito extra. TL;DR Basic burritos with not so basic prices. read more

First time here. I actually had high hope for this place. My bf has been here before and would eat here everytime he's working in Bakersfield and he talked about how great this place was so today was a great time since we're headed to LA. It's a pretty big size place plenty of seating got there around 9am hardly anyone there. He ordered #1 which comes with 3 tacos, rice, beans and a drink. I got the combo #2 1 taco and one burrito. We waited alittle over 6mins for our food. I loved how my bf combo plate looked the way his tacos were put together was nice compared to my taco where it lacked salsa. They also made a mistake with out orders. My bf asked for 2 Asada and 1 al pastor however they gave him all al pastor. The al pastor meat was very flavorful it was very good. My carne asada meat however was on the hard side and it was a bit dry and I didn't really enjoy it as much as i hoped. And my bf agree it was pretty bad and not their typical good food. So I figured maybe it's just a bad batch. They also charge a .75 fee for any type of card payment. They have a self serve fountain drunk area. For salsa you would have to ask and they give a generous amount. Overal the customer service was good the food was eh. But, I would give them another try since I was told they can do better. read more

This is a very slick looking restaurant that looks like it's part of a much bigger chain, but they only have three locations in the Bakersfield area. The restaurant itself is large, with a drive thru and good pop music playing inside. I found the prices to be quite high for their meal combos. I got a bean and cheese burrito, which was whole pinto beans, not refried. The burrito itself was just okay. A decent size, but a bland taste. The Diet Coke from the fountain was VERY good. Makes me wonder if it was really diet. I'm glad I tried it, but not looking to come back here anytime soon. read more

The tacos were delicious. I'm the pickiest person when it comes to food & tacos are my favorite and I give it 10/10. I ordered 3 carne Asada tacos. Normally I like the tacos at food trucks so the building itself had me doubting if it would be good as it seems like it would be a low quality chain restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised with the street tacos! I will be back every time I'm driving through Bakersfield. I noticed most of the negative reviews are about the price. The tacos were $3.16 each so if that's not in your price range go somewhere else. I live in Northern California and I'm used to paying these prices but maybe for this specific area it's higher than people are used to? read more

Just visiting town came here with a good thinking of this place being delicious but instead I wouldn't say it's the best tacos in town. I paid $17 for four tacos. The meat tasted very chewy. The hot sauce isn't even spicy overall I would say it's OK here. they did provide extra lemons read more

Absolutely worst service. If I could give zero stars I would. I asked for my tacos plain and it wasn't a big deal but when I went back to get the correct order the cashier and and cook started speaking in Spanish and I speak Spanish and they basically made fun of me for asking for my tacos plain. Extremely rude. I wish I would've gone the cashiers name cause clearly she doesn't know how to take a order down. She also charged me for a soda when I never ordered one and when I asked for my money back for the wrong charge she gave me attitude. Look out for this place if you order here and look out for any extra charges. They clearly don't get any business and now I know why. Wish I would've gone with the Taco Bell across the street. You've been warned! Update: Got a really bad stomach ache from this place. Most likely cause the meats was mainly greasy fat! read more

this place was horrible tonight. I ordered a burrito, a taco of asada without the tortilla (for my dog) and extra serranos. I was charged $16 for the burrito 3.50 for the meat with no tortilla and $1 for each Serrano which they gave me 3 only for 3 dollars. usually I pay .75 cents for extra serranos and they give me like 5 but now $1 for each??? never going here again. I only stopped and found this place because I was driving up to Fresno and had to pee. I'm glad I did though because these tacos are on par with the ones I get around LA. I was honestly surprised with how good they were. The only cons I would say is that it comes with a lemon rather than a lime, and the food came out kind of slow even with nobody else in the restaurant. Overall, I'd say this spot is a hidden gem and that if I'm ever taking a trip through this area again I will definitely stop by. read more
