Saturday visit around 2pm. One person working the floor & the cook. They were slammed and asked us to have a seat and be patient. All good. We did so. When the waiter stopped back to take our order, he informed us that a takeout order was just made and the customer had left without it. He wanted to know if we wanted to get any of those, to avoid wasting, since they had just come up. We agreed and the 4th person ordered tacos. Turns out that 3 meals were $17.99ea skirt steak meals. (We didn't know what we were getting, he just he promised it would be good.) - Note: We were charged full price on those but we were going to order 2 skirt steak dishes anyway & I'm glad we were able to put it to use. Still, an incredibly peculiar interaction for a restaurant. They also just put out new menus - so, online information wasn't correct. My parents didn't want to go to the place we wanted to go. I feel it would have been a better fit for us. Service was as good as it could be with only 1 worker & the skirt steak was good, tho it wasn't hot when we got it. This place is so good. My husband introduced me to it. I got the like seafood fajita. Best I've ever had. The service was also amazing as well as the general atmosphere. This place had terrible burritos covered in disgusting , white, creamed, cheese sauce, not to mention it was the tiniest burrito I've ever had. It was on a taco sized tortilla, and not folded into a burrito, just rolled over. Very friendly place and great specials on drinks and pitchers. Even on the weekend! Chips were warm and salsa seemed well blended. Decided to give this place another shot because o was pregnant & starving. We ordered take out & my husband went to pick the food up. They got the order wrong & tried to blame my husband His food was correct it was mine that they completely got wrong and whatever they sent me looked like cat food that had been thrown up. They told me the next time I came in I would get a free meal but didn't ask for my information so I guess they would just take my word for it. I've given this place plenty of chances. I am never going back I will make the drive to other cities. read more

This is another place that I've been to quite a few times, but have never thought to review. Yeah, I've talked to people who really don't like this place, but I've always enjoyed the food and the service here. They've got your normal, ordinary Mexican plates here, plus some you don't see at every other restaurant. Not the BEST Mexican I've ever had, but considering this is Mascoutah, IL, it's pretty darn good. Pricy? Maybe, but it's not Taco Bell. Once again, you get what you pay for. read more

Update! We returned. There was a huge difference between the prior experience and our return visit. We were seated promptly. Placed our drink order and asked for a side of queso with the basket of chips. My husband and I received our drinks. Our daughter did not. We placed our order, my husband ordered a dish with pork in it. Our daughter still hadn't received her drink and we never received our queso (after about 20 minutes). The waiter came back and informed my husband that they did not have pork. We paid for the 2 sodas we received and left. I don't know why it took so long for them to tell us they were out of pork and why they were not able to coordinate queso and milk. We won't be going back for awhile. We'll give it enough time to have some staff turnover and hopefully it will be better. read more

Consistently good food. Always great service. The location needs some work as half of the parking lot is rented out to a car dealership and they are in an old Hardees building. I would like to see them in a new location, but that is my only complaint. read more

Never have had a bad meal at this establishment! Service and food is beyond wonderful and I would recommend to anyone who is coming through the area or who is nearby! Can u get 0 stars!!!! I have been here 3 times. I would never give a small town restaurant 1 star without reason. We live very close and love Mexican, so we tried this multiple. Just can't do it. No refills! You have to pay for extra chips and salsa! And the food is way overpriced and not very good. Sorry, we really wanted to like it. Save yourself the money... Go somewhere else! read more

We have been to Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants all over the nation (including San Antonio River Walk, Texas) and El Sombrero, here in little Mascoutah, Illinois remains our favorite for taste, quality, service and price. There are some that compare, but we have yet to find someplace else that beats El Sombrero! We love all of their Fajita-style dishes - especially the Carne' Mexicana. They do get busy so don't be surprised if you have to wait - but the food is well worth it! read more

******WARNING******Never buy a gift certificate from them because they do not keep track of them and if lost or stolen they have no problem ripping you off by not replacing it even if you have a receipt showing you purchased it. A family member purchased a gift certificate for me for Christmas while visiting here and I never received it. I took the receipt to them and they would not honor the receipt and replace it because they do not keep track of their gift certificates. Why would you want to buy something that could not be replaced? I was told that they would be loosing money because I might be lying. Well I don't like being treated like I am a liar. It's fine for them to rip you off. This is the second bad experience I have had with them. I will never go there again and I will make sure all my friends and family know how they operate. read more
