When I review restaurants, I am often asked about the food, the service, and the ambience. First,…read moreI'll start with the last - ambience. This restaurant is well decorated and taken care of. When you arrive at the large expeditious parking area and you come inside, immediately you feel like you are in an authentic Mexican environment, complete with natural native music - at the proper volume level. Next, service, since I speak Spanish, I enjoy speaking with the staff, however, they treat everyone in a cordial manner. My wait for food to arrive on the table was normal, and I did not see anyone complaining. Finally, the delicious filling food is excellent, and again, I hate to use the word redundantly but, it is very authentic and properly spiced. I have had the taco salad in both chicken and beef, which unlike many others, has more than enough sour cream and guacamole to enhance the dish. Today I opted for an appetizer, the shrimp cocktail. This dish is rather deceiving. You only see four shrimp on top, garnished by lime slices. However, in the sweet relish sauce, you will find more tender fresh plump shrimp. A wonderful beautiful cool dish for a hot day. I would encourage everyone to come by and not only enjoy the restaurant, but the magnificent view of the largest man-made lake in Illinois - Carlyle Lake. Next time, I am going to have the combination shrimp, steak, and chicken tropical pina fajita served on a pineapple half, or maybe, perhaps the Pollo Fiesta. We shall see. Until then "Tener un apetito agradable!"

Don't be me, don't go on a Friday night and try to get street parking. Plus parking in the back would have been way easier because they have a desk for seating right off the back. I like the layout, it's open, but not open. Really cool. My wife and I sat in a booth that was tucked in by the kitchen. It was perfect. You could hear the fun and conversations people were having, but you had your own spot. We liked it :) I looked at the menu before we went so I knew what I was in for and I was all for it. I didn't tell my wife but knew she would love it, so I padded in some extra time for her to look. Look at the menu before you go, just glance, it's big..but not crazy. The food, awesome! Lots of it. I had a chimi because that's what I do lol. (Long story, my mom loved them...so no matter how amazing the menu...it's what I do. Sorry Yelp lol) But the food was amazing, and hot, and quicker than we would have expected. So all the things were perfect for us. Price was just fine. You can go whatever direction with the menu your pocket desires really. We added another entre and split it, so we went over what we normally do. But hey, date night :) Overall we loved it, reminded us of Carlos O Kelley's in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We lived at that place. This place is almost it's twin and we are thrilled. And, which shouldn't be a side note, the staff was amazing. Didn't press us, and was just really nice. Thanks everyone, excited to come back!

The building looks like it was an old VFW on the outside. Inside they did a good job giving it a Mexican decor. Using paintings and other Mexican items. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive. Great service. I was rattling my ice because I like to suck it on. She came over immediately to make sure I didn't want more. She wasn't Mexican to my knowledge. She commented she needed to learn Spanish. My skeptical meter went up a bit. I saw the cook. Definitely Mexican. This isn't to say non-Mexicans can't prepare good Mexican food. Don't know why I put so much detail into that. The chips and salsa was decent. Got queso dip. It was good. I ordered the Tacos de Chorizo. I needed to know how good their chorizo is. I also ordered a tamale al a carte. Another important taste test. My tacos were good. The chorizo tasted just fine. My tamale was good. It was covered it mole and cheese. The masa was fantastic. Although, they serve chicken tamales. I prefer pork. I didn't have sides but I tasted the refried beans. Amazing! Most places refried beans are bland or taste funky. The rice was ok. Not the greatest. Though as by rating, I rate it really high. I don't make to town often but will come here again. I hope they are able to get more business. More people need to check it out!
