Went with my wife, parking is much easier than I made it. Heads up they have lots parking in back as well as across the street. Don't be me, don't go on a Friday night and try to get street parking. Plus parking in the back would have been way easier because they have a desk for seating right off the back. I like the layout, it's open, but not open. Really cool. My wife and I sat in a booth that was tucked in by the kitchen. It was perfect. You could hear the fun and conversations people were having, but you had your own spot. We liked it :) I looked at the menu before we went so I knew what I was in for and I was all for it. I didn't tell my wife but knew she would love it, so I padded in some extra time for her to look. Look at the menu before you go, just glance, it's big..but not crazy. The food, awesome! Lots of it. I had a chimi because that's what I do lol. (Long story, my mom loved them...so no matter how amazing the menu...it's what I do. Sorry Yelp lol) But the food was amazing, and hot, and quicker than we would have expected. So all the things were perfect for us. Price was just fine. You can go whatever direction with the menu your pocket desires really. We added another entre and split it, so we went over what we normally do. But hey, date night :) Overall we loved it, reminded us of Carlos O Kelley's in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We lived at that place. This place is almost it's twin and we are thrilled. And, which shouldn't be a side note, the staff was amazing. Didn't press us, and was just really nice. I had the street tacos. The pork carnitas were excellent - the star of the show. The steak and chicken were good as well. Service was a bit inattentive - drinks only came after a reminder. But, all in all, the food made up for any gaps. Crank the service up and this is a real winner. read more

We were driving through town from Atlanta on the way to South Dakota. Found this wonderful place! It would be five stars in Atlanta! Started with the guacamole Casero. For dinner, I had the pollo Cancun and my wife had street tacos - chicken, steak and pork. Everything was excellent. We had the 'medium' size house Margarita. They are pretty big and very good! Over the past few years and past visits, the food quality is getting worse. I had a quesadilla that was never introduced to a heat source and fried rice that was probably left over. Cold and discolored. The kids had chicken nuggets and fries, both which were reheated, burnt and cold...cold believe it or not after being reheated! Obvious leftover cornbread muffins, cold, mushy. This location is in downtown Mascoutah and is a Mexican restaurant. At one time this was Tony's and then Mascoutah steak house and now Camino Real. This is One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area and is on my rotation list for biweekly visits. The service is good, food is hot and fast, and the menu is large. There was absolutely no flavor at all to not only the food and the salsa, but even the margarita was bland. I ordered the Taco Salad Fajita Style and I'm not exaggerating a bit that I needed a spoon to eat it because it was truly like soup. I had to ask for more lettuce and both the waitress and the manager looked at it and didn't even offer a new salad but brought the lettuce that did not help at all. I even added some of my husband's rice and beans that he said had no flavor, and still no help! The Chimichanga that my husband ordered was extremely dry with only a tasteless beef in the center and a very light white cheese glaze on top and his enchilada was similar with just beef in center and a light tasteless red sauce on top. I honestly don't think I ever had such a tasteless meal at a Mexican restaurant in over 40 years! The only plus side is that it wasn't expensive. read more

Had a good chuckle over "I know good Mexican food because I'm a Mexican from California" review. Kinda like me saying I know good Irish food because I'm a Californian of Irish decent and have eaten in a few Irish restaurants in California. But I digress. Anyone who has traveled extensively in Mexico would clearly realize this isn't an authentic Mexican restaurant 20 seconds into reading the menu. What Camino Real offers is solid Tex Mex, the likes of which you can find in most reputable places in San Antonio, Houston, or Dallas. What surprised me is you could find it in Mascoutah, IL. Went in for dinner on Wednesday night around 7pm. Fairly packed, but only a few minute wait for a booth. Ordered the shrimp and avocado cocktail (not on the menu), two fish tacos a la carte (also not on the menu a la carte) and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Chips and salsa came with the meal. Fish tacos were good. Could have used a little more fish and the corn tortillas needed to be warmed more. Pretty standard Mexican shrimp cocktail. Hopefully they can add more "cocteles de mariscos" options in the future which incorporate octopus and oysters. Heavy pour on the wine. Thanks for that. Service was extremely helpful, friendly and attentive. Will definitely return if work takes me to this part of the world, but will continue my exploration of the regional subtleties of Mexican cuisine to south of the border rather than at Camino Real. read more

Expensive venue for what you pay for. I ordered two guacamole's and a queso dip to go. It was $24 and was super small containers! The taste wasn't anything close to $24 guac! Kind of holding me back from dining in person but hoping that visit is a better experience read more
