We have followed this restaurant from their previous location to their new larger one, and they have stayed consistently great the whole time. The food is always delicious and feels very authentic. You can tell a lot of care goes into what they serve. It can be a little pricey depending on what you order, but they also have some really unique items that are hard to find at other Mexican restaurants, which makes it worth it. Everyone says the Mexican restaurants along Collinsville Rd. in Fairmont City are the place to go for great, authentic Mexican in the Metro East. Well, I just tried one of those places this weekend and loved it, but I'm here to tell you that Frida's is every bit as good, if not slightly better! My spouse and I hit up Frida's fairly regularly, and it is on point every time. Their chips might honestly be the best I've had anywhere across the five different states where I've lived (and one of those was Texas!). Highly recommended dishes include the street tacos, especially the al pastor ones, the carnitas, arroz con pollo, and the nachos. Service has always been fast and friendly, and infrequent staff turnover (at least in the front of the house) seems to indicate they treat their people well. Ambience/decor is also great. read more

This is our first time visiting the new location in Fairview. The menu has grown and we were impressed with it. Sugar Skull and 3 amigos mural along the wall gave it a nice warm feel. Was given chips and also when we sat, but never asked if we wanted a refill on either. Now for the food! Honey Bbq Quesadilla- Portion side was good. Came with rice, beans, sour cream, guac and Pico. Only request would be for it to come cut, since they add Bbq sauce to the top. Arroz Con Pollo - we left off all veggies and subbed out the rice for French fries. Most restaurants have no issue doing this. Unfortunately here we were told they couldn't do that, but if they did it would be a up charge. We went with it since that it what my daughter enjoys. Burrito Bowl with Chorizo tasted wonderful and portion size was great! California Burrito - was just ok. Was super greasy on the bottom. It was also served wrapped in foil and in a basket for a dine in order. Made it very difficult to eat. Was expecting it to be served on a plate smothered in cheese like most Mexican places. Believe Frida's is a relatively new (in last year) restaurant, and a spinoff from the same owners as Casa Maria in Belleville. Pretty standard Mexican restaurant as far as ambience, food and drink offerings. But they set themselves apart (as does Casa Maria) thru the quality of their food and genuine, attentive service. We had the obligatory frozen margaritas and shared two dishes- Enchiladas Nortenos and Birria Tacos. All excellent (fresh, flavorful and hot), and there were several drive-bys by the server to refill drinks etc, plus one by the owner to confirm all was well. We have driven by this place a few times and finally decided to try it out. Meals: My wife got the quesadillas which were really good, but a bit bland, so, she poured a little table salsa on it and was very good. I got the enchilladas barbacoa which is basically enchilladas with shredded beef inside with green salsa. It could have used more salsa and honestly, wasn't very flavorful, but still did the trick. Is it our favorite, no. Would we go back...not sure when we compare to other places locally, but they have put a VERY good effort and I would encourage anyone to try them at least once. We really enjoyed our experience here. All the staff we encountered were friendly and engaging. The service was quick. The atmosphere was also laid back and calm. I tried the puffy tacos on the specialty menu and my fiancée had the carnitas. Everything was flavorful . The meat really took on the flavors and it was tender. The salsa was also very good. Our first visit to Frida's and will definitely be returning. To start fresh chip and wonderful salsa at the table almost immediately. We added Guacamole which was freshly made and equally delicious. Stuck to some basics Salsa Chicken Enchiladas and Puffy Tacos both dinner did not disappoint. Highlight might have been my wife's Jalapeños Margarita as big as her head! Beautiful artwork on walls. Had a very positive experience here tonight. I love it when there is a New Mexican place in town. So I drove my wife here tonight and she thanked me for it! Things don't always work out that way so I am grateful. We both had Arroz Con Polo. It was a wonderful chicken dish with rice, vegetables and queso all mixed together. You are handed three tortillas if you choose to use them. My wife did. I did not. It's a matter of choice and taste. The chips were decent and the salsa was good. All in all this is a new place on the food scene in lovely Fairview Heights. If you're into Mexican, I strongly urge you to give it a shot. It's a very open space, quite attractive, but certainly not overwhelming. It looks new and it needs more furnishings. And my wife told me to tell you the queso was excellent.
