This is a great place to stop for some tasty Mexican food if you're in the area. A simple two sided menu that is easy to navigate, there's not an abundant amount of choices. This tells me they make what they're good at. Large menus have often been disastrous. I enjoyed this establishment. I could imagine the place being a great spot to enjoy summer nights with the large garage doors open.

Walked and the place was very clean the host and server were very nice and helpful with menu questions and the food margaritas were excellent. I had the Molcajete from the shrimp to the meats everything was cooked to perfection a must stop if you are in town

Food was ok. Tried the house special, which was a bit bland. Service lacking, brought our check out when we were still eating. Had to ask to clear out table and to refill water, which was not prompt. The place has a Mexican vibe decor.

In Mt. Vernon, Illinois and stopped at Casa Raya for lunch. My husband said it was definitely his favorite restaurant for Mexican food. We had lunch there the two days while in the area. The food was excellent, service was great and the restaurant was nice! The chips and salsa are the best. We shared the sopapillas and they were SO GOOD! Everything was excellent. We highly recommend!

It has tasty food and a friendly staff. Warning: Their margaritas come in a fish bowl. It's a blast from the past but great Tex Mex.

The building looks like it was an old VFW on the outside. Inside they did a good job giving it a Mexican decor. Using paintings and other Mexican items. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive. Great service. I was rattling my ice because I like to suck it on. She came over immediately to make sure I didn't want more. She wasn't Mexican to my knowledge. She commented she needed to learn Spanish. My skeptical meter went up a bit. I saw the cook. Definitely Mexican. This isn't to say non-Mexicans can't prepare good Mexican food. Don't know why I put so much detail into that. The chips and salsa was decent. Got queso dip. It was good. I ordered the Tacos de Chorizo. I needed to know how good their chorizo is. I also ordered a tamale al a carte. Another important taste test. My tacos were good. The chorizo tasted just fine. My tamale was good. It was covered it mole and cheese. The masa was fantastic. Although, they serve chicken tamales. I prefer pork. I didn't have sides but I tasted the refried beans. Amazing! Most places refried beans are bland or taste funky. The rice was ok. Not the greatest. Though as by rating, I rate it really high. I don't make to town often but will come here again. I hope they are able to get more business. More people need to check it out!

One of the oddest cheeseburgers I can recall ever ordering. While I admire the chef's /…read morerestaurant's enthusiasm to do something exotic, here, it didn't work. It's about execution. The meat was quite odd, both in consistency and taste. If I had to guess, they took reject pieces from their steaks and ground them up, perhaps several days ago? You couldn't cut through it with a fork. It had a strange taste to it. It wasn't at a warm or hot temperature and tasted stale. The onions that they added were delicious, but way too minuscule in size and bulk to have any taste impact. The bun was ordinary, despite their raving and reliance on its quality, and it being a Kaiser roll. The burger lacked customary garnish. Why I order cheeseburgers at high end establishments? In part? I like the quality thick beefsteak tomato slice and crisp, fresh lettuce. Here? No garnish at all, just a patty with a little cheese and onion. If the patty was fresh black angus and juicy, without the weird consistency and taste present here, and had they lavished it with mountains of similar onion and more cheese? --The risky and odd approach to making a cheeseburger might have proven successful. For this cheese to suffice, it, too, would have needed to be more pungent in taste, and abundant in presence. You could barely taste it. The mashed potatoes were quite good but way too salty. I literally crunched down on some salt crystals. That's when you know there's inordinate salt. Weird service and rock hard chairs made this bizarre stop on the way to St. Louis/ Denver more painful to savor. What irritates me was that I had to order a Caesar salad just to obtain roughage. And when you take the $30 for the salad and burger combined into account? That's a lot for such an odd experience. In summary, anyone who watches and implements the Gordon Ramsay Fword cheeseburger recipe on YouTube will end up with a vastly superior cheeseburger. In this town, while I am visiting only, from what I've read and seen in reviews, I'd recommend instead the frosty mug for basic food along these lines. A $24 burger better be pretty darned special to attract this sort of tab. This was just weird, not great. Sorry, no photos.
