I have been here a few times and each time worse than the time before. Our food was burnt the first time & the 2nd time no apology or even remorse slow service or no service our family of 3 seated with 1 menu & we had to get get our own addtl menus after asking for another 2 several times. My coffee came but it was spilled all over the saucer it came in & all over the sugar packets in said saucer. Street tacos = cold, meat dry and hard, shell not cooked thoroughly, no grilled pineapple as described Soup = cold, needs salt or seasoning Rice = cold Tamale = cold, 95% breading Chips = hard and stale The waiter saw we weren't eating the food. He didn't care. Asked us if we wanted a to-go box. No. Not for that food. Almost all was left on the table without him ever asking if everything was ok or if we needed anything or giving us a chance to talk to him. Cashier also didn't ask. I told him food was cold and he offered a $5 discount. $5? For food we couldn't even eat? Enjoy that payment because you won't ever get another penny from us!!! I commented on the restaurant Facebook page about the bad experience. They deleted my comment. I posted my comment again. They deleted my comment and blocked me from their Facebook page. They do not care about the unacceptable food they're serving customers. A sure fire way to decipher a good restaurant from a bad one: A good restaurant has a place for reviews and comments in their Facebook page. A bad restaurant removes the review and comment option because they don't want customers talking about the TRUTH!!! read more

The food was very bland and no flavor. Pretty bad that they put a chili powder shaker on the table to add to your food. This was our first time and last. Should have went to Five Guys. read more

El Sombrero of Flowood is the worst. My son went there tonight and there was a wad of chewed up gum on his plate. He didn't eat a bite off the plate and they still made him pay for part of it. I will be heading up there tomorrow to get this handled. read more

It is certainly different from others but I love it. The outside looks extremely small but the inside is different. When you walk through those doors, it's like you have walked into the middle of Mexico. The decor is amazing. It is so realistic with a touch of modern. The modern meaning the flat screen tv that are on the wall. The food is really good. The prices are reasonable. You have so so many choices on the menu. There are about 80 items on the menu. I wish there were more pictures to see what you are actually getting. If I get the opportunity to eat there again, I most certainly will. read more

This place is much better for lunch than it is dinner. The portion size for the price at lunch is a deal that you can't beat. Compared to the many other Mexican restaurants in the area, I recommend El Sombrero. They have drink specials and even without a drink special the draft beer pricing for a Mexican beer is very reasonable. I've been dozens of times and the service all depends on which waiter or waitress you get. Some are better than others. I've had one bad experience with service, and when I was asked when checking out how things were I replied so so. The manager happened to walk up behind me and insisted on paying for my meal. I refused time and time again, but he stated that they were at fault and my food was on the house. It's very seldom that you find service in management like this. The food is consistently good, and I recommend this for anyone in the Flowood area compared to any of the other Americanized Mexican restaurants. If you're looking for authentic Mexicana, this is not the place, but if you are looking for the typical Americanized Mexican, this is the place. I also think they have the best salsa and fresh made chips in town. read more

This place was beyond bad. A general guide for Mexican restaurant quality is the salsa. We should have left after trying it. Tasted like canned tomato paste, ketchup and cilantro. Not good at all. The beer was both stale and flat. Ordered the Camarones ala Diabla it is was small shrimp covered in the same (non-spicy) salsa. The rice was cold and probably cooked several hours earlier and the somewhat reheated. The one high point was the flour tortillas. They appeared to be home made and were excellent even though we were charged for them. The typically come with camarones ala diabla. The menu is pricey for a Mexican restaurant. I have only been there once while staying the weekend so maybe I hit a bad day. It was bad enough I wouldn't give them a second chance. You can get better quality food Taco Bell for much less money. read more

In Jackson for work again and headed out to a mexican place I had been to acros the street from this place. The hotel shuttle driver said he usally suggests el Sombrero to guest from Hampton inn. The decorations very nively done, had a large menu, friendly staff, and I ordered a dish I had never heard of before (my wife is from Costa Rica - so I do know and appreciate good latin food) I ordered the shripm cocktail - I thought it looked odd in between chimichangas, enchilladas, etc..they have 2 pages of house specialities, Well the 'shrimp cocktail' come out in a jumbo margarita glass and I thought it was cerviche. Had saltime crackers and hot suace on the side, packed with shrimp, avacado, onions, in lime juice, It wasn't cold like cerviche, it was warm. Ill be ordered this one again for sure. read more

Am in Jackson on business and stopped here for dinner. Very good and authentic food. Prices were very reasonable and portions were large. Had a meet combination of sausage, chicken, shrimp and steak on a sizzling pan. Tea was never below 1/2 a glass. We got there about 6:15 and place was fairly busy left about 7:20 and we appeared to be one of the last cars in the parking lot. People must eat early here in jackson. Am in town for two weeks and will be going back for seconds. read more

A co-worker and I went for lunch at 11:30, not sure if it was just a bad day or if this is the real ElSombro. I ordered the chimichanga with Rice, co worker ordered chicken fajitas. Chimichanga tasted as if was cooked in old grease, soggy and rice was crunchy hard like it came from the bottom of the day before rice pan. Co-workers fajitas were cold like maybe sat to long. Waiter was upset that we complained and manager came over and he did say sorry. Another waiter came to table with more rice, then we had to find someone to bring our bill. I did eat the fresh rice enjoyed my diet coke. Hopefully just a bad day for restaurant, beautiful inside and really like it but bad experience that day. I will go back again and give another chance because everyone has bad days. read more

Worse service I have received in a very long time. I visit the Resturant today for dinner. I was seated in the back. I ask to be moved to a different booth. After changing seat, the waiter brought over some sauce and chips. I told him I was ready to order . He walked off and ignored me. I saw him go to several other tables pls inc orders . After 15 minutes, I decided to get up and go. I was stopped by another employee. I explained what happen. I was offered to change waiters. I was changed again to a new seating area. Order was taken and after that, no waiter , no refill on water or anything . When I got to the register , I was ask where was my ticket . I explained no one ever come to my table . Response : Again. Food is fair, but the prices are too high. Salsa is just ground up tomato. With no flavor, chips are very thick. Don't waste your time.
