We went to Papito's for a going away dinner. Party of 6 and we asked to be sat on the patio. We sat on the upper patio and they put two round tables together for us. I didn't like this configuration but it was the only way we could sit outside without a long wait. Our server was the sweetest but not the fastest. Well I don't know if it was him or the bar but it took a while to get our margaritas. He got one of our orders wrong but promptly fixed the error. When it was time for the check, we had waited over 15 minutes and decided to just go check out ourselves. Then we had to wait for them to find him so they could split the ticket. I'm giving grace though because I know restaurants are having a hard time with staffing, and he was super nice. I usually order the same thing when I go to any Mexican restaurant....fish tacos. This trip, I went out on a limb and ordered the shrimp fajitas chimichanga, and it paid off! My chimichanga was delicious and full of shrimp that were seasoned and grilled perfectly. It had more bell peppers than I would have liked since I love onions. Would have preferred more onions but it was still good. The rice was very good too. We ventured out this evening on the recommendation of someone we know well. Their enthusiasm for Papito's was not misplaced. It is gorgeously appointed and we were sat swiftly. We did not wait long to be served. My wife ordered a shrimp dish that featured a fantastic garlic oil, and all of the shrimp were quickly eaten. Our adult son tried the tacos birria and he was very happy with that choice. I had the ranchadilla, which is skirt steak over cheese enchiladas served with rice and veggies. Had a birthday lunch at Papitos in Flowood this past Friday. It has seem to go downhill...they no longer serve ceviche too. The service overall was decent -- he forgot a few items. The food..not so much. The Pico de Gallo was old..you can tell by the cilantro was dark and mushy and then the tomatoes were sour. My friend/coworker had the Shrimp Bruschetta Tacos. It was missing the Avocado and Pico which we had to request. Even after that, it was really bleh. However, this smokey residual spicy salsa that accompanied it was delightful! I had the Carne Asada and the steak was sort of overly salted. Also had an A la Carte chicken taco that was bland--That smokey salsa tasted great with it. The restaurant was really cool. When we walked in we were greeted and then we were seated. We both requested a booth as we both love booth tables. Our waiter was nice though he seemed a little off; when we both ordered margaritas it took our waiter 10 mins to come back to tell us that they were out of blue and mango margaritas so then we ordered strawberry and peach instead. Our waiter also did buy my babe's Chicago bulls hat and he was happy about it. Our food did come fast, and it tasted really good. I am not sure how it arrived at our table so fast, but it did. The price for two combos were very affordable and for the amount of food you get. Our margaritas were tasty and didn't contain a lot of heavy alcohol. This place was definitely a casual scene! They have vintage looking chairs and is overall a relaxed setting. The chips and salsa came out fast and they had drinks for happy hour! The margaritas were also good and came out fast. I had the fajita taco salad and it was relatively good. Unfortunately, our lunch started off on the wrong foot at the Flowood, MS, location when a young man greeted us without a welcome to Papitos or a simple smile. We ordered two margaritas which the waitress said were $1.99. Wow, what a deal! We'll take two, we said, thinking it was a Sunday special. A while later, the unfriendly manager came to our table to let us know the waitress was new and the price was incorrect. Ok, fine. She's new. So we reordered. The misunderstanding went downhill from there. My husband ordered a burrito/enchilada with a sour cream sauce. Once again, after a long wait, it came out with a really awful-tasting red sauce. No, my husband politely told the timid waitress, I asked for a sour cream sauce. Another long wait followed before she brought his plate out with a large clump of sour cream piled on top. Seriously? Now our patience is wearing thin. She told us they only had a queso cheese sauce. Fine, we said. After waiting, and waiting once again, the manager came to our table and wasn't happy about us turning the order away not once, but twice. She proceeded to tell us if we wanted the queso sauce, we'd have to pay an additional $2.99. What? We're exchanging one sauce for another. Why the extra charge? Besides, it wasn't our fault the waitress and the cook didn't know what a sour cream sauce was. My argument fell on deaf ears so my husband canceled his order. To top everything off, we were charged a dinner price for my meal when it should have been the lunch price. A professional manager would have done the right thing by apologizing for her waitress/cook's ignorance and/or lack of training and waved the additional charge to make their customer happy. But instead, she arrogantly stood her ground. On our way out, I approached the manager and asked for her last name, but she refused. No surprise there. read more

I really enjoy this place. I've brought the family here several times and have work lunches here occasionally. The wait staff , while not overly friendly, are mad efficient. They always seem to know what I want before I ask for it. If they didn't, how do they get a Chimichanga to my table in under 5 minutes?! Mexican food magic! The salsa is a little on the runny side with no real big chunks of 'mater but there is plenty of cilantro. That always makes things better. Side Ramble: When I was younger I remember chimichangas being these massive fried burritos with cheese, guac, and sour cream piled high like a huge two masted ship floating in a sea of beans off the coast of a little rice mountain. Lately though most Mexican joints serve flauta sized chimis. Little canoe on an ocean of bland beans next to a desert of dry rice. /Side Ramble The chimichangas here are a very nice size. Long story, short point. The restaurant is nice and clean. Well, actually it's dark so it might be dirty as hell. I prefer blissful ignorance on this point. I did notice the last time I was there my coworker got fajitas and his tortillas were definitely not fresh out of that cool tortilla making machine they have. Hence the 4 and not 5 star. This is my second time eating at this restaurant, and both times was disappointed. My wife ordered the steak fajita taco salad and I had the Baja fish tacos. The steak was over seasoned or seasoned in such a way that it tasted funky. The tacos were underwhelming, having hardly any fish; most definitely not worth the $14 price tag. I should have prefaced that our food also took a considerable amount of time getting out of the kitchen. Overall, this place serves sub par Mexican food (even for Mississippi standards) and overcharges for what you get. Very disappointing visit today to Papito's. A lot of changes happen since they have open Margarita's on Pear Orchard. My wife had a steale taco shell filled with very watery ground beef ??? Looks and taste like some kind of soup. I had the Lunch fajita beef, the beef was very tough and almost burned on the metal plate as well as the vegetables. No seasoning.The first batch of chips was great and crispy, the salsa was very blend and oily ( not usually) the second batch of the chips seems to be from last year, to say the least, and probably the same time capsule as the taco shell??? but what was the main concern was that one of the owner lady was there. She is the young lady who start the opening of Margarita's. I have the regret to let you know that you have lost us and some of my friends. Good luck read more
