My family and I have a good first experience at this location in Flowood. I hope they do well here because we have always like eating at El Som. The food is good, staff is great - but it's much like any other TEXMEX. Certainly nothing bad, just nothing new to put it over the top TEXMEX. We will definitely be back. read more

A friend of ours had told us of how good El Sombrero was in its new-ish location. It used to smell overwhelmingly of Pine Sol so we hadn't been in years. My wife and I didn't have a go-to Mexican spot so we've hit El Sombrero twice over the past month. Really outstanding both times...seasoned well, flavorful rice & beans, and great service. Chips were stale once but not a big deal. We will be back. read more

The food was no that good and there was hairs in my food and when Itold the waiter he got mad. Then my fork and knife where dirty and they didn't wanna give me another one. If I lived here I'd never visit this place. Food was bland and lukewarm except the rice and beans. Ordered 2 margaritas because I had to return the first. Drinks and cups were warm, no salt or sugar around the rim, zero garnish. Subpar experience and I'm being lenient. Good luck! read more

I used to love this place before they moved across the street. Today went for lunch and got the fajita salad. I would have thought it would have chicken, peppers, onions, guac ect. nope a chicken breast on a little bit of lettuce with some shredded white cheese 2 bland tomato slices and some black olives. The wait staff is pleasant and attentive. The restaurant and rest room was clean. Just taken aback by such a nothing salad for $9.00 Bummer :( read more

Serving cold leftovers!!! Street tacos = cold, meat dry and hard, shell not cooked thoroughly, no grilled pineapple as described Soup = cold, needs salt or seasoning Rice = cold Tamale = cold, 95% breading Chips = hard and stale The waiter saw we weren't eating the food. He didn't care. Asked us if we wanted a to-go box. No. Not for that food. Almost all was left on the table without him ever asking if everything was ok or if we needed anything or giving us a chance to talk to him. Cashier also didn't ask. I told him food was cold and he offered a $5 discount. $5? For food we couldn't even eat? Enjoy that payment because you won't ever get another penny from us!!! UPDATE: I commented on the restaurant Facebook page about the bad experience. They deleted my comment. I posted my comment again. They deleted my comment and blocked me from their Facebook page. They do not care about the unacceptable food they're serving customers. A sure fire way to decipher a good restaurant from a bad one: A good restaurant has a place for reviews and comments in their Facebook page. A bad restaurant removes the review and comment option because they don't want customers talking about the TRUTH!!! read more

my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Flowood area! great service and great food! Oh be sure to try the churros!

So we sit down and the server comes to us and asked us "drink". He seems pushy like we ate irritating him. Mind you there are only two of us myself and my friend. And this was her first time at the restaurant. I've been before but my server spoke English and there was not problem. This guy seemed to speak little English and was not friendly. So we managed to get our drink and food orders by pointing to what we wanted. Which was weird because he didn't seem to understand our questions in English but was able to read exactly what we wanted in English. Anyway he brought us our drinks smiled and rushed off. Then he brought us salsa slammed it on the table and rushed off again. We of course in our own conversation just shouted thank you as her was already at another table smiling and addressing them. In the middle of drinking or margaritas my friend poured up the salsa and we began to eat. Literally 5 bites in she pulls up a strand of straight long hair! I instantly started to fight back vomit. No way it was neither of ours for one mine is extremely short and hers is extremely course (I get sea sick watching it). So we flag our waiter. Asking for a manager he kept saying "no no manager I don't understand!" It wasn't until my friend raised her voice and told him he needed to find someone other than him that he stomped off with attitude. I really should've just threw the F up here. So this nice dude comes. Speaking perfect English. He apologized (which threw me again because if our original waiter claim to not understand how did he go back to tell the dude what happen) any way he stated he could give us thirty percent off our drinks but we still had to pay. Lol. Funny because we literally did not drink one ounce of the drink. Maybe just Licked the salt. (Don't worry I have pictures). So by now fighting vomit and pissed off because the young man whom portrayed to be the manager stated the GM pretty much told us to fuck ourselves the salsa is free so why are we complaining about a hair (I swear I wished I had that on video with him saying all this shit) and forced us to pay for drinks we didn't drink (I have videos) and pretty much said we didn't have to come back! Deadass! When my friend said she wasn't coming back he literally said "ok good!" I should call the health department on them. read more

I usually don't care enough to post a negative review but doing so to help deter people from bad service and mediocre food. Party of 4, ordered drinks and apps within 3 minutes, (guac, queso and fundido). Took 45 minutes for apps to come out and it was only the guac which tasted like it came from a can and looked like paste. The table salsa was like pizza sauce and they forget about the queso until 55 minutes and a reminder. The fundido looked way different than it should. Hardly any cheese, a sprinkle of chorizo and a ton of veggies dumped on top.. we tried to give the server the benefit of the doubt because he was also taking care of a group of 20. He didn't have any urgency or care about getting our apps out or check in. We spoke with the manager and he quickly assigned someone else to is and hey brought everything out at once which sucks because you've got all your apps and meal sitting there with no space on the table. They brought the wrong drink once and tried to convince us it was the right one (strawberry daiquiri bs strawberry margarita). It was a perfect storm of nonsense and lack of enthusiasm and I advise everyone to go somewhere else for Mexican. If you just want a margarita, grab one at the bar and then get going. read more

The food is pretty good. The prices are fine. The issue is the cleanliness. It's FILTHY! I've brought it to the manager's attention and he replied with, "really?". We have it another shot this week and the place was still dirty. read more

Here's what we're after in a Mexican restaurant: kid friendly, guac/chips, margaritas, unique menu items. 1-Neutral on kids, certainly not attuned to them, but not terrible 2-AMAZING chips, from the devil without question, your diet is over 3-didn't get to try 4-Nothing that blew me away Misc: the floor was slick like grease EVERYWHERE, literally dangerous to walk on. It's acceptable, no big dings but there's better out there (Sombra) read more

My food was so cold ! You did not get our order right and it was disgusting! And y'all were sooooo rude! I will never ever come back

I will not be eating here again. Me and my fiancé are new to town and have been going here since we moved here. Our last couple of visits haven't been pleasant. We called to please a curbside order and they took it and said they do curbside. We get there and call and they're very rude and say they don't do curbside. Get home and realize they didn't even put the cheese sauce on my meal (cheesy chicken rice).. was cold and bland. Barely ate it. read more

This place is the best!!! We got 2 enchiladas, chicken burrito and kids quesadilla and everything was great! From the chips and salsa to the 32 oz Dos Equis, everything was perfect! Not to mention, the restaurant is adorable and the employees are nothing but nice and accommodating! This will be the ONLY Mexican restaurant we go to in Mississippi! Gross and greasy. I got the #22 combo. It had no flavor save the over abundance of grease on my plate. Was recommended as the most popular combo menu item by our waiter Guiermo. I don't see how. My husband complained to the waiter that I did not like my food. He did not inquire as to what the problem with my food was, or ask if he could get me something else or remove the entree from our bill. Would not recommend. read more
