    Tres Leches - SO GOOD!!
    Michelle R.

Love the feel of this place, very lively yet low key. A good low buzz of chatter from the patrons. We came in after dinner nearby, so we only had dessert and drinks, but Woweee! The Tres Leches cake was light, of course moist, and pretty dang dreamy! This is one of the best I've had - and it's my usual go to, so I feel qualified to say it's top notch. I ordered a Paloma, and it was one-drink-buzz-girl approved. I'd love to come back and try the ceviche. I'll make sure to stop by soon.

Cute location in Georgetown with street parking. The back has outdoor seating with heat lamps. Great service and delicious cocktails. Guac and salsa were very fresh.

I was looking for a quick meal before an event and, I'm glad to have stumbled upon El Sirenito. This restaurant is in an unassuming building. Walked through the doors, and I was transported to a beautiful space and relaxing atmosphere. The bar area featured a long counter top and spacious seating. Behind the bar is a decent collection of mezcals and other spirits. The dining room extends all the way to back and is perfect for large parties. I opted for the bar top seating. I started with their Mezcal Negroni, which was a mix of Mezcal joven, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Absolutely wonderful and perfect for sipping. For a main dish, I ordered the comalito. This dish is a cast iron grilled Royal Ranch carne asada, Gulf of Mexico wild prawns, onions, queso fundido, serrano chile, and avocado. This was served with a basket of hand-made tortillas. The queso was nicely melted. The steak and shrimp were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The grill plate may seem small, but the food was filling. Service was attentive, and I would definitely return to try their other mezcals.

I would like to give this place another go because it has been so highly recommended to me by numerous people. The ambiance was fantastic... The music, the decor, the patio, everything that isn't food related was perfect. Our server was very nice and attentive for a Saturday night.. one of our food items never arrived, but I don't blame them. I think the kitchen was just too fast, which is a shame because what we didn't get was chips and salsa and they looked delicious. The Rockfish enchiladas were pretty good. The red sauce was sweet and smokey with a nice kick. The fish was a little lacking in flavor, but maybe it was just overpowered by the sauce. The rice, also, was a bit bland. My dinner guest got shrimp enchiladas that were extremely salty. Once combined with everything else on the plate, the saltiness was fine, but on its own it was a lot. Like I said before, I'd like to try again, and try something different to understand the high praise this restaurant gets from most people I've talked to.

Taco Tuesday tacos! $2 per taco. We got one of each

Came in after work right before happy hour ended to sneak in a last minute HH margarita, and there was no wait with plenty of seating at 5:50pm on a a Tuesday. The margarita was good with the right amount of lime flavor to tequila ratios and very refreshing. It was also taco Tuesday, so the tacos were $2 each (pretty average pricing). We ordered one of each, and they were all flavorful, but the meat on the chicken and pork was definitely more tender and juicy than the steak. The veggie one was interesting and more filling than I would have expected from a veggie taco (and SPICY), but as a meat lover, I'd just order pork next time. We also got ceviche which was delicious, and I liked the additional pineapple in their version. Unfortunately, it was the same price as all out tacos combined, but to me the ceviche is always worth it. Overall, a solid spot for a happy hour or taco Tuesday! Will definitely return! Parking was okay, with some street and lot parking around the neighborhood.

Covid Review: Nice that El Sirenito has a large outdoor patio at the back of the property that is fully covered with a plastic tarp. It provides great ambiance along with social distancing with each table having it's own heater. Even with phase 1 restrictions, El Sirenito provides a great experience. I still recommend that you layer your clothing as it can be brisk during these winter months. As for the food and drink, we came during the happy hour where they had $1 off cocktails (includes margaritas). The stand out on the menu where we made 3 orders was the fried oysters that included 5 plump oysters perfectly prepared. These are shucked fresh and came with some tasty sauces. The margaritas are tart, salty and pretty strong drinks, so pace yourself as 1 or 2 is all you need. The appetizer that could have been better was the QUESO FUNDIDO that came in a hot plate that never fully melted and was the consistency of pulled taffy. Overall, El Sirenito has survived the COVID restrictions and is a great place both before and after these lock down rules.

    Happy Hour menu

A second round of fried oysters almost replaced dessert. Really enjoyed the raw ahi and the Caesar salad had actual fish as well. The clams were good too. Slow service though, perhaps understaffed? Waiting for the dessert I can see to be delivered. Sometime this evening....

This might be my new favorite place in Georgetown. We moved to Georgetown about a year ago and have been slowly trying every restaurant in town. This might take the crown thus far! First of all everything I have tried so far is delicious. Secondly, mezcal. So many fun mezcal cocktails! Very few places I have been to specialize in this and it's so cool to see! The restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. Can't wait to come back! Highly recommend the queso and the ceviche :)

Had not been to Georgetown or if not for years. Wanted to see history where relatives used to work. This sounds like one of the best restaurants in the area. Food and service was good and food came out from the kitchen quickly.

Great food, great drinks and cool atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and they do a special al pastor taco dinner on Friday nights. Mezcal and tequila flights and probably THE BEST fried oysters we ever had. Can't wait to go back!

I used to live within a stones throw away and was excited to discover a great local wine bar. The former owners, Tina and Joe, created the kind of spot where you can enjoy a fantastic glass of wine and relax. Josh took over, increased the food menu and added a few different touches. There is now a privacy shield on the window if you sit in a lower seat so that car headlights don't shine in your face. There are games too if you are here with a friend or few friends. BEST IDEA EVER. It was legitimately one of the best dinners I have ever had. There were 9 courses total, and everything the chef brought out was incredible. The service was wonderful and personal and attentive from the chef to the bartender to the wine director. So while I already would recommend this place to any serious fan of Italian cuisine, I cannot speak highly enough of the Nonnakase experience. Absolutely worth every penny. And then I recalled why I didn't want to come back from the first experience. First, the location is unique, and I really appreciate that this business is trying to keep Georgetown alive with cool quirky places to eat. This def fits the bill. But, I couldn't help but notice the political statement taped to the front window, super classy. I dine out to escape my day. I don't need it thrown in my face at dinner. Next, when the menus were brought to us, it was for their 3 course restaurant week special. $50 per person, and there are two choices per course. My family all chose what we wanted and then waited for the meal. Like previous reviewers, the wine is brought out in oversized shot glasses not really, but might as well be). I get that in Italy, dinner wine (peasant fare) is served in cups, not stemware, but $18 for mediocre wine, I'd like to see a more appropriate pour. Lamb Polpettine was essentially lamb meatballs on a cold and very loose polenta with what was described as salsa diavola, but it was essentially a chunky red sauce. There was nothing about this that wowed us. In fact, it was pretty bland overall and underwhelming. But the manner in which you are greeted and served at the restaurant and the remainder of service, you would think it was going to change how you felt about food. I don't even want to go into the salad. Again, underwhelming. The mains came out and although tasty, the portions were very small compared to the price we paid. And if you opt for the truffle, it's finely grated and it covers the entire plate. Also, it's an extra $12......for less than $2 worth of black truffle. It absolutely ruined the dish. An educated server would be able to caution against it, if, of course it wasn't intended to raise the final price, essentially raising the tip. If you order risotto there, be fair warned, it is extremely loosed and not very well made imo. Bland, lacks imagination, and the rice grains were cracked and soggy on the ends and crunchy in the middle.. Last was the dessert. Again, it was tasty, but it comes in these tiny jars that equal about 2-3 spoonfuls of either panna cotta, or tiramisu. At the end of our meal, the bill was over $250. For that price, I could have eaten somewhere where I could have left a little more satisfied and felt like I was actually in an upscale restaurant, not a political statement masquerading as fine dining. Having worked food for a long time, I felt obligated to leave the customary 20% gratuity knowing full well the workers there made their "living wage" before the gratuity kicks in. It included an additional 2% to pay for employee health insurance. Isn't that an employer cost? Why put that on the check? Anyway, out the door for $300 and vowing never to come back. Buyer beware.

They do have a good wine list, but the pricing is HIGH. Think $25-$45 PER GLASS. Some of the wines this made sense for, but they really should consider adding a wine or two below $25 per glass. I have my WSET 2 and know a decent amount about wines so could understand why some of them were priced like this, but the whole menu being this high was strange. $32 for a glass of pinot noir didn't sit right with me. We asked to do flights so we could try a few things, but they said they were only doing glass pours. We asked for a rec for an acidic, fruity red and felt like the gal just told us the most expensive non-tannic red on the menu. Fine. For $32 a glass, I would not order what I got again. We headed to a restaurant after and got $14 glass pours that we preferred. This is a great place to go to impress someone with the chic vibes, but good wine can be found elsewhere at a fraction of the price. I do see the appeal though. It was also pretty loud when we went, so we chose to finish our conversation elsewhere.
