Located off Alabama Street in the shopping Plaza where 7-11 and a few other shops are located. Looks like a neighborhood dining spot. Owner was taking orders and was the server as well. Space did not look big but once inside you will find they have two dining area. Ordered from their lunch menu a taco plate which comes with rice and beans. He also included a bag of chips and salsa with my to go order. That may be something they do with all to go orders? Over all my Taco plate cost me about $10 with tax. Good deal for the quality and amount of food you get. Plus you get a bag of chips and salsa, which is a bonus for a to go order. read more

I'm pretty sure ER2 was one of the first restaurants I visited when I first moved to The Ham almost 20 years ago. I remember asking my friend..."Where is El Rinconcito 1?" Well, friends, here we are two decades later and that question still hasn't been answered! Mysterious name aside, ER2 is solid, local Mexican food made even better by the super friendly service you get. Their staff treats you like an old friend even if you haven't darkened their door for awhile. And their prices are really good too. On a recent visit I enjoyed a bean enchilada for lunch, plus a beer, and got out of there for less than $12! Their salsa is also divine. I always fill up on it and can't finish my entree. El Rinconcito has been my favorite restaurant for more than 20 years. It is a quaint hometown family type restaurant with great food, great friendly service and very reasonable prices. The warm neighborhood atmosphere is always inviting. I like the Taco salad while my friends usually order one of the combo meals (there are many to choose from). We like to meet here regularly for lunch as it is a very comfortable place to carry on a conversation while enjoying lunch. Absolutely abysmal. We ordered the pork green chile and the carne asada. Before our actual food came out, we were given salsa that was so runny we could hardly scoop it out with chips. When our dishes did come out, the carne asada was in a pool of grease, the beans tasted like they came out of a can, and I watched them MICROWAVE our tortillas before bringing them out. Additionally, the "green chile" that my boyfriend's pork came in was about as thin as water, and soaked through everything else on his plate. It looked like wet dog food. I took a few bites off my plate then stopped eating and refused to take it home in a box. Even though I took only a few bites, I asked them if they still expected me to pay for it and they insisted that I do. I have no idea how this place has such high ratings but all I can think of is that we're SO far from Mexico that locals don't know what it SHOULD taste like. Aside from taste quality, the greasiness alone made me queasy. Not only will I never go here again, I would warn anyone else to never bother trying it. read more

This is one of the most inedible meals of my life. The 'shredded' beef has no flavor...because it is beef stew out of a can. What the actual? The first clue this was a bad choice. I've been going to this place since my mom was pregnant with me in 1995 and 1996, the staff used to call me "mija" and they always remembered my order and birthday! The owner, the staff, and the food are all amazing. I'm very sad I don't live close enough to go anymore, they truly make you feel comfortable and at home there! Oy...... - The beef was overcooked to the point of being chewy - Amazingly even with being cooked for so long, there was no caramelization on the beef at all - Tortillas were very rubbery - Bland mushy rice - Refried beans which lacked flavour - Guacamole had a slight film on it as if it was old - Salsa was generic and quite bland - The pool of grease on the plate was large enough to go swimming Places in downtown Vancouver do a better job. I've been going to their taco truck on Prospect for years, and finally tried this place recently. I have food allergies, and they're really great about not using soybean oil and making dietary changes. The food is very reasonably priced, and they're very friendly. The food is always fresh, hot, and just perfect. Their tamales are the best- not too dry or soggy, with the perfect ratio of slow cooked meat and masa. Pretty good food. Nice service. I ordered the chili relleno and enchilada plate, my dad ordered tacos and my mom ordered a taco plate as well. Made from scratch rice, beans, sauces. My family and I have been going to this fine establishment since I was like 10. I guarantee if you show up on a Friday night at their busiest time you and three of your friends will get served in a matter of minutes!!! It still shocks me to this day that I always get my food on time and I have never had to send anything back to the kitchen. Luis is the owner and many of the people that work there are family. He is always pacing around the restaurant making sure everything is going good!! I never have an empty chip or salsa bowl for longer than a minute and the price is of course just right!!! My only gripe is that their soda glasses are a little small....but you do get free refills and their staff is usually on it when it comes to refills. I am just fond of bigger glasses. This is a neighborhood Mexican place, it's been here for many years...as long as I can remember. I have a bit of a problem with Mexican places in general...as Jim Gaffigan says, it's basically "tortilla with meat, cheese or vegetables". El Rinconcito says it's a family place, and it certainly seems that way. The woman who brought us water was very kind and polite, quick with the water refills and busily working in our general area. We were served warm tortilla chips with tasty salsa and (a new one for me) some warm refried beans with pico de gallo on top. I was very hungry so this all appealed to me! We ordered Strawberry Margaritas (it was Halloween after all) and they arrived quickly in fairly large goblets. They were a bit too sweet, light on ice, but still tasty. Our entrees arrived soon thereafter, I had Chorizo with Huevos while my companion had a Chimichanga. My Chorizo with Huevos was flavorful, not too hot, but a bit too greasy. I wasn't quite sure what to do with the hot tortillas that came with my plate. The refried beans were really good, smooth and flavorful. The rice was okay, but I am not the biggest rice fan.I appreciated the lettuce and tomatoes that were more than garnish on the side. The chimichanga was nicely done with lots of veggies around it, salsa, and was, you guessed it, a fried "tortilla with meat, cheese or vegetables." I came here on Halloween and the neighborhood was busy with trick or treaters, the restaurant was not so busy. There were just a handful of other diners that came and went during our visit. Great service. Great food. Descent prices. Mexican joint in a strip mall generally equals a score. This place fit into that restaurant stereotype perfectly. We visited for a late dinner and there were only a few other patrons there. Decor reminded me of something you would actually see in Mexico. We were seated immediately and served drinks, chips, salsa and refried beans that were topped with a bit of salsa. The chips were super fresh and crisp. They gave us a second bowl of chips after we finished the first. I had the Carne Asada ($14.50). My husband ordered the Carne (steak) Rincocito ($12.50). Our daughter had the cheese quesadilla ($8.50). When our plates came out, I was curious to know why my meal (Carne Asada) cost a bit more than my husband's Steak Rincosito. Both plates looked identical with refried beans, rice, guacamole, lettuce, sour cream and tortillas. Hmmm...ends up the difference was in the steak itself. My husband's steak was a thicker cut and a little tough. On the other hand, my steak was very thin and tender. The two meats were also seasoned differently and mine won hands down...so...yes, it's worth the extra $2. Our daughter's quesadilla was quite large, more than she could eat. I just got a order of 4 tocos and the food was very cold and the shells were soggy and saturated in oil. I am used to going in and eating inside but during Covid we just went into pick something up. Last time I went here, I was sorely disappointed. Ordered a meal to go, charged $20 or so (which I thought was a little expensive but wasn't going to be bothered by it in this case). Took it home, and it felt like I got ripped off. My chicken enchiladas had no chicken in them. One had a tiny, skinny single shred of old chicken meat in it, the other had literally nothing. It was two folded tortillas covered in cheese and sauce with nothing inside. What I did get, was bland. I used to go to this place all the time, and haven't returned for over a year because of this. El Rinconcito 2 has been my go-to Mexican restaurant for several years. Because they appear to be a mom-and-pop, family place and I want them to succeed, I am chagrined to report a less-than-good meal last week. I had ordered a chile relleno (one of my tests of a good Mexican restaurant) and a shredded beef burrito. Suffice it to say, the relleno failed. The poblano was not really filled with jack cheese nor was it battered and deep fried tempura-style as I expect. The melted cheese that covered the plate added nothing - it was bland and tasteless (not that jack has a strong flavor anyway). I was hoping for picadillo shredded beef with some spiciness to it. Nope, no luck there, either. Bland. At least I know what not to order when I return, which I will do because they serve other entrees that have been good in the past. read more

Chips tasted funny like they were fried in old oil and the two entrees we ordered had no flavor. Salsa wasn't good either. Asked for hot sauce to add some flavor and all they offered was Tapatio.
