We don't come here as often as we once did, but El Real is still one of our favorite Mexican restaurants anywhere. I have been a fan of their carnitas since my very first visit almost 10 years ago and it's still the dish I will order 80% of the time... either as a meal or as a bowl. My wife almost always gets a veggie burrito or chimichanga and we definitely ALWAYS get their chicken taquitos either by themselves or as part of the sampler plate. They've had a few fails over the year, like a few occasions when the taquitos were served cold in the center or when the carnitas over a bed of onions came out waaaay too overcooked and dry. But by and large they have always given us an excellent, clean and consistent dining experience with wonderful servers. To their credit, I don't think we've ever had an issue with any server in all of the years we've been patrons. NOTE: The times they got it wrong were always corrected when I spoke up. The sweet tea here is some of my favorite in all the south (except for this last visit) and also their frozen piña colada is my third favorite ever, with the first being one I had on a random beach in Costa Rica many years ago and the second favorite being at Pepper's Cantina in Panama City, Florida. I don't personally believe their current 3.7 rating is accurate (should be higher), but then again my loyalty might be making my opinion bias. However, any local will tell you this location is packed regularly and is almost impossible to get in on weekends without a significant wait time. Took our adult kids out for dinner (Thursday eve 6:30 ish). We were taken to a table immediately, served drinks, chips and salsa. The food was plated nicely and delicious. This place is superrr busy (vibrant and active with families eating and chatting). The decorum is culturally beautiful, as well. We enjoyed dining at El Real. The only drawback for us was the wait for our server to come back to take our dinner orders. We were relieved when our orders were taken. However, this was short-lived. We then waited close to 30mins before our dinners arrived. The wait(s) were exorbitant. However, the meals were delicious, our server was polite, so we will try this eatery again. read more

The food tasted rushed and overall just awful. The margarita slush was way too sweet, and the drinks were not made well at all. We were also overcharged for both the food and drinks. The service was even worse. It took forever to get seated, and the server basically tossed the dishes at us. For the prices they charge, I expected much better food and service. Great spot for casual and basic Mexican at great prices. The chips are a bit on the thicker side but the salsa and queso were great. I really loved the option to have grilled zucchini instead of rice for sides. It was seasoned to perfection. I also got the shrimp tacos and they were pretty good as well. I ordered chicken soup and chicken nachos and both wound up in the trash! The soup was horrible. It had absolutely NO flavor whatsoever and the nachos were dry with stale chips! I literally threw $21 into the trash with that meal! I will never eat there again! read more

One of the first and still hottest spots in Bethlehem for texmex. Good food, good vibes, and great service. Definitely expect crowds but the wait has never been too long for us. Not one of our first choices since there are now so many options but for sure an option. read more

Great texmex food with a few more authentic options. My wife loves tacos served more traditionally while I like more Americanized Mexican food. I had the chicken fajitas which were flavorful and filling. As with all places like this there was not enough lettuce guacamole or sour cream, but to be honest what place actually serves good portions of those with fajitas. My wife enjoyed her tacos which is high praise, as she can be particular about her tacos. The only slight criticism was they were a tad dry but salsa took care of that. The ambiance was bright and open. Lots of colorful art and light fixtures kept my infant daughter occupied looking up so that was a plus. Service was quick and accurate. Our drinks never emptied and we got exactly what we ordered. Over all, great dinner and we will eat here again. read more

Visited on a Sunday afternoon and they were pretty busy. Our server was great. He was attentive and took great care of us. We ordered the kids meal chicken strips with fries, steak and shrimp fajita bowl and 3 tacos. The tacos of choice wee 2 chicken arrachera and 1 carnita. My son loved the fries and finished them before he started in this chicken strips. The chicken arrachera tacos were both kinda dry and the carnita was pretty good. Came here and ordered the special holiday coconut margarita, it was so good, had a sweet coconut flaked rim. Also got the cheese dip and it was good, but basic. Second time I was here, I ordered the same margarita and didn't get the sweet rim, and the margarita was not as white as the first. The cheese dip came out a little cool. Nothing 'Real' about this food!! We just arrived from California, so we are familiar with 'real' and authentic Mexican food. The chips were so hard, seemed like they sat around for months before being served. I doubt they even made the chips themselves and probably bought them from Costco. The salsa was straight up tomato sauce ... no cilantro, cumin, lime...nothing!!! We had to add a ton of salt to even get any flavor. This is our weekly spot. The food is always good and we love coming back; however tonight was different. Our server, Gabby, has been to our table approximately 4 times in the totality of our meal. Drinks are empty, chips are empty, and she was nowhere to be found. The food made up for the service, but this experience really dampened the mood on our favorite place.
