Visited on a Saturday evening with my husband and 8 month old son. It wasn't busy so we were seated right away with a high chair. Our server, Giovanny, brought chips and salsa, and was patient with my many questions. We got waters and 1/2 pitcher of Texas margarita to start and continued to look over the menu. Our drinks arrived and we ordered on a bean and cheese kids quesadilla for our son, I got the 1/2 nacho fajitas with no meat, and my husband ordered a chicken chimichanga with a side of rice and beans. My husband and I have been long time patrons of Viva Mexico. The salsa and chips is so delicious it's a challenge not to eat the whole basket. Today we got the chunky guacamole and by far some of the best guacamole we have ever had. My husband got carne asada tacos with black beans. I got the mojarra fish dish with black beans. We visited this place for the first time today. I am on a keto diet and typically order some type of fajitas when we go to a Mexican restaurant. I cannot have onions, rice or tortillas. Which I completely understand is not the restaurants fault. I never ask for any discounts when ordering the way I do even tho the restaurant saves quite a bit when I pay full price for the item minus several items. Today I simply asked if they could sub out the onions with mushrooms. The waitress was awesome- told me she wasn't sure but she'd ask. I told her, it's fine if you can't, I still don't want I onions. When she returned she said they couldn't just sub the mushrooms - it would be a $2 charge!! Really? They won't provide a simple substitution with all the things I'm not getting? The food itself was mediocre. I've never had fajitas with the tomato "sauce" that these were served with. We are y from Buford, but travel here once a month for a doctors appointment. This is one our favorite Mexican restaurants! Their food is always so good and their service is great! Their food is a different style from most of the local places, especially with their birria tacos. We've had some tacos in different states and even in different countries but my partner says these are in his top 5. Their basic dishes, like enchiladas and tamals are incredible also. The food here was absolutely fabulous. Mexican happens to be one of my favorite cuisines. I sometimes like to sit at the bar so that I can listen to the chatter from the other patrons, and that's where I chose to sit this day. The cocktail featured was absolutely delicious. So I'll start by saying this, it's hard to get good authentic Mexican food here in the Buford area. Coming for Chicago where tacos are to die for, I mean we'd drive an hour to Little Village for tacos. The parking lot is huge it shares with the rest of the businesses in the Lowes parking lot. But I'm not there to do selfies with the decor, I'm there to see what this place is all about. As soon as we're seated, we get crispy chips and some super fire hot salsa. Now I don't eat hot stuff because I like my taste buds, but the wife loved it and she loves heat. Or friend ordered the cheese dip right away and said it's the best, I had a tiny taste and the consistency was spot on. Food- birria tacos that didn't stand a chance, the salsa that came with it was potent! Wife had the Diablo chicken and she was smokin! She used the rice and beans to soak up the heat lol! Other friend had a taco and beans then asked for more beans because they were that good. I opted for a standard torta with frijoles. I have to like your beans and your tortas in order to come back. Torta was packed with a ton of chicken, it was falling out, and the beans were a good consistency not runny or too think. I was happy with my food. Drinks- this is where they earned the 4th star. Cantaritos we're bangin!! A little deceiving from the picture, they're small for the price but they are hittin! We had some margaritas and Paloma's as well. All made well! Our server was great. Didn't remember her name but she was a younger girl, 25ish we were joking with her about how old she was. She's a good sport! We'll honestly be back becuae of the hospitality and the drinks. This place isn't far from our house so we stopped in... Service was okay. Not sure if it was because it was near closing time that everything was just wrong. My black beans had literally NO FLAVOR! Same with the guacamole. My taco was good. Rice didn't have flavor either. He order a chimichanga & said it was good so that's a good thing! 1 plus there. So I asked for sour cream for my taco, my 1 taco, they gave me an entire bowl! I'm not kidding, literally a bowl full of sour cream. It was comical. All in all. We've. even coming here for 20 years. Used to be called " Taxco". i recently had an experience that really disappointed me. I placed an order " to go" after I finished my meal. i accidentally left my to go order on the table. My mistake. I returned 5 days later, spoke to the manager, showed my receipt that shows I paid for this to go order. She refused to give me the soup I PAID FOR. She gave me several reasons for it, non of which seemed reasonable. it's $8.95 soup. We have been very loyal to this restaurant for 20 plus years and they refuse to bend in any way to please the PAYING customer. So disappointing. I contemplated leaving and never coming back. Viva Mexico is in the same shopping center as Lowe's, right across from the walmart parking lot. I've been coming here for years now and I have always enjoyed their food. The drinks at the bar are also really good, my favorite is the long island iced tea and margaritas. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great with fun decorations and colorful painted walls. The service has always been great for me, I haven't had one problem with that at all. Now the food, up until now it has been amazing everytime I come. I went there last week and had the Steak Ranchero, my fiance had the Burrito Grande and we ordered queso for our chips. The chips were different, darker and oily looking. The queso and burrito were great and thoroughly enjoyed. My steak was seriously lacking. I ordered it medium rare and it was well well done, as in overly done. It was dry and super thin. The Ranchero sauce was basically tomato paste slathered on top and covered in onions. The beans were so so and the rice had little to no flavor. I was disappointed but everything else I've had there in the past has been great. I will definitely still come back and I recommend this as a place to try if you're craving Mexican food and find yourself in the area. read more

Ehhh so-so. Mediocre at best. I ordered the beef fajitas which were over cooked but still tasted okay however my beans and rice were nuked to hell and back. The rice and beans were so over cooked/microwaved that there was a hard crusty edge on my beans and the rice was all stuck together in a hard, crunchy, inedible mass. My kids had seafood chimichangas which they both loved and my husband had combination dinner number 22 which consisted of chili relleno, an enchilada and a burrito with a side order of nuked beans. I finally found my Mexican Restaurant! The chips were warm and crunchy. The salsa has a good amount of spice. The chicken fajitas were awesome! I'd go back in a heart beat! Viva Mexico is located in the Lowe's shopping center in Buford. I visited this restaurant with a large group on late Sunday afternoon, and it wasn't too busy. We were seated immediately, and the service was great - quick and courteous. Warning: Their menu is huge! If you have trouble deciding what to eat, review their menu beforehand. I ordered the half order of Supreme Nachos (server was honest and told me to get the half order instead of the full - so glad I listened to her), which was the perfect size for a single person. It didn't come with a lot of chips, but I attribute that to the fact that the table gets unlimited chips and salsa. I ended up just scooping up all the goodness (cheese, sour cream, guacamole, chicken, ground beef, lettuce) with the unlimited chips. The nachos were decent, but not the best I've ever had. Pretty good for the price you pay - in terms of portion and quality. The rest of the table's orders looked and smelled amazing! Many people enjoyed the Chicken Tortilla Soup and the tacos. No one left disappointed. Clean location, good food, good service, and plenty of parking. I highly recommend a visit if you're looking for a Mexican restaurant around Buford. This place is friendly. I've been in here a few times. I've always had a decent meal at a reasonable price. Dos Equis is always on tap along with free chips and salsa. I gave this place five stars however due to my most recent visit. Apparently, at some point I had a not insignificant amount of cash fall out of my pocket. I didn't notice. After I left the restaurant and was almost to my car, our server ran outside and chased me down to return the cash. Honestly like that is to be commended !!! In return, I will be a repeat customer.
