We ordered takeout through DoorDash and tried the Three Amigos appetizer -- it was delicious and a surprisingly large portion. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and packed well for a to-go order. The only thing that really surprised me was that they don't include free chips and salsa with to-go orders. This is the first Mexican restaurant I've ever ordered from that doesn't offer them, so it definitely stood out. Today was my first trip to Dos Palmas and it was a very enjoyable visit. The server was very helpful with my order and most attentive in making sure everything was right. I travel 1/2 of the country for business, I try to have Mexican food in each city. I have been in Athens, GA for less than 24 hours and have dined here twice! I knew I have found my happy place last night when I tasted the salsa. OMG! I had to come back for lunch today. Roach...ON OUR TABLE! And they didn't do anything about it. No sorry, no meal comp (even though the person I was with wasn't able to finish their food), no manager apology. Do NOT eat here unless you want roaches on your food! To make matters worse, this is the second issue we've had. We went there once before and there was a thick hair at the bottom of my cup on the inside. We noticed it AFTER I drank most of the drink. None of us have thick short black hair. I nearly threw up. Typical is what I would say accurately describes your average experience at Dos Palmas. There is really not much to say here for I think everything here is just about what you would expect coming to an americanized Mexican place in Athens. Service is nice, but not so punctual. Sometimes I found myself waiting a while to get a re-fill on water or receive the check. I got the steak fajitas. For a 14 dollar price point, its about what you could expect. I made sure to ask for lime on the side. This made me content. I would note that for spice lovers, this is not the place for you. The "hot" salsa that they bring out at the beginning of your experience at Dos Palmas is not hot at all and is almost more mild that the "mild" salsa. You do get a whole lot of chips and salsa though, so I guess that makes it alright! read more

The management is horrible and does not honor their promotions... Horrible service, hair in food, DO NOT GO HERE. Management is the absolute worst. Manager did not honor $1.50 Miller Lite, despite a sign advertising it n the wall next to by booth. Instead of honoring it, he claimed it was a new sign that was misprinted. When I told him that I've seen that sign and received the promotion countless times before, he told me that wasn't true because it was a new sign. So he rudely reached over my table to grab the sign and rip it off the wall. When he did so, he hit the back of my head and the person sitting beside me. Hardly an apology. Anyway, under the sign is MILDEW so it is clearly not a new sign! I had a party of 3 and we didn't have to wait to be seated. Once the menus came, it took 15 minutes for our waiter to take our order and another 45 minutes to get our food. This was my and my husband's 1st visit there; we went on behalf of our 3rd party guest's recommendation. The food was terrible! My cheese enchilada had been in the microwave so long that the tortilla was hard and paper-machéd in texture. My chicken burrito tasted off. 20 minutes later, upon arriving home, I got sick. Our meal (before tip) was $40. I realized we could've saved alot of money by staying home and eating Hot Pockets, winding up with the same effect. Never going back again! read more

I'd only been here once before and this past visit left us a little disappointed. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer, and it was pretty awful. We were given regular old queso with a clump of frozen spinach dumped in the middle. It hadn't even been stirred. There were no artichokes anywhere to be seen. At 4.99 for the dip, it should have some artichokes. We sent it back. Luckily the waitress was gracious about it. We ended up having to wait nearly an hour for our food, and the restaurant was not at all crowded. Once we got the food, however, it was fantastic. All the vegetables on my plate were crisp and fresh, and the guacamole was to die for. We ordered a side of the mexican slaw to split, and it was so salty that we could not eat it. We didn't send it back because we were in a hurry, but it was very unpleasant and not worth the money. The verdict seems to be that the main attractions are fantastic. The cooks obviously spend a good deal of time making them appetizing and delicious. They might be better served to spend a little more time on their sides and appetizers. read more

One of the first mexican joints we've visited in Athens, and it was just so-so. Very standard mexican food that made me feel like I was at a chain. There wasn't anything special about anything we ordered (burrito and flautas), and the chips and salsa were very standard. I give it three stars based on the margaritas. Wow, was my server on crack? She was a spazz for the first 5 minutes we sat down and asked us 3 times if we were ready. She then sat down with her boyfriend at another table and forgot about us for 20 minutes. The food was not terrible. Menu was not huge and this is obviously not a Hispanic owned establishment. The atmosphere was absolutely awful. I mean truly terrible. I would not go back from the atmosphere alone but the mediocre food and service cements this as a place I would not recommend. read more

Congratulations! This restaurant has led me to do two things I have never done, send food back to the kitchen and leave a restaurant review online. My wife, 3 year old, and myself walked in on a Sunday around 1:30. They weren't crowded and we sat down right away. The Corona decorations by our table were stained with some sticky type of beverage. We were served the typical chips and salsa but I found the chips hard and the salsa without flavor, this should've been my warning. My wife ordered the sampler, my son got the chicken tenders, and I ordered the fish tacos. My wife's food came out first, piping hot and looking pretty solid. Upon tasting it though she was disappointed. After 10 minutes (?!) the rest of our order arrived. My fish tacos had what could best be described as shriveled fish sticks with some slaw and sauce on them. The fish wasn't even as thick as my pinkie finger. It was burnt and tasted terrible. For the first time in my 30 years I sent food back and asked them to not charge me since I'd only eaten 1 of the 3 "tacos". I've suffered through some pretty lousy meals out of politeness but this was pretty rough.
