Two of my children shared a quesadilla. I had a combo with two tacos and an enchilada. I have the tacos to two of my children and the tacos had as much meat as two tacos would have in them. I sat at the bar for a quick dinner right before a movie. The bar service was quick, and within 5 minutes of ordering my food it came out. The tamales tasted authentic and good, the enchiladas were just okay. If you're looking for a quick marg and a bite I would recommend. Good location with a ton of parking. The outdoor seating was definitely a hit with my party and I. We came during late lunch and the place was practically ours as we were the only table outside. Our sever was very slow and inattentive which was very unappreciative, but I guess being apart of a group of 7 definitely helped keep the time going. We ordered quite a lot of food and drinks but we felt although we had to constantly have to go inside to flag an employee down to get our sever to come out to assist us. The food was okay. I've had better Mexican food. However greats were great. I would definitely recommend getting their drinks and appetizers here, but next time we'll pass on their entrees and desserts. Service was really quick and friendly. The restaurant decor is very cute and cultural. I ordered a steak grande burrito. It was pretty huge and is topped with queso. The queso was really yummy and the burrito in general was good but I felt like the steak pieces were cut very small and it was mostly rice. As an appetizer we got the elote corn bowl. I've driven past this place for years and always thought it was some sort of gringo spot because of the name, but I was so wrong! First of all, there's so much parking, and two seperate patio areas for when the weather is nice. Beautifully decorated and plenty of room. The inside is very spacious too and gorgeous -- great music and vibes. The servers are personable, quick seating and so many options! Even for me as a vegan I had plenty of choices (including horchata!!!) The salsa is great and the chips are fresh. I've had better mole and the enchiladas are small and simple but the rice is great. This is one of my favorite spots when I'm in the city. I ordered the vegetarian enchilada with ground beef, my daughter ordered shrimp nachos and my other daughter ordered steak taco with refried beans and rice. The food was good. We also ordered a pitcher of margaritas for 4 which was on point. For desert I ordered flan, it was tasty. It wasn't creamy-just flan. But I won't complain. I always receive great service. Well it was a cold rainy day. I figured what's a better thing to do than to find a resteraunt and write a review. I started out on this journey, first by looking at what was on Ponce DeLeon Ave since I was aboard Marta route 2. The name El Ponce caught my eye. So I pulled up their menu. I'm not going to lie, they had me at tamale. I showed up to find a very brightly decorated restaurant. They also had very upbeat music (90'ss hits) playing as well. I was greeted and told to set where I would like. Darlin took my drink order and returned asking me if I had decided on what I wanted. I told him I knew I wanted a tamale . He showed me they had a combination plate that offered a tamale as one of the choices. This was perfect so I settled on a pork tamale ,2 tacos ,one chicken and one beef. I also liked that they had a choice of beans,refried or black beans. I chose black beans. I was impressed by this as most restaurants with this style of cooking don't think of this. The tamale was wonderful with great seasoned meat. The tacos were great. The chicken one could stand to have a bit more flavor to it. The rice and black beans were fantastic. I would say all and all the food was great. The customer service was awesome. Ok was not impressed that they automatically added a 20% tip. However in this case I will let it slide. The gentleman earned his tip. However automatically adding a tip ain't good IMO. read more

Any place that automatically adds 20% to my bill will automatically never to be visited again. I was a party of one. I DESPISE how some restaurants are doing this now. I would have added 20-25% per my normal routine (I was in hospitality for a long time) but now I just won't be back. It's an absurd thing to do. 20%. 20% f'ing percent of your check they automatically add a tip with. Simply unacceptable. This is not and should not be the "new norm". If you want your servers to have more money in their pockets then YOU (the business) needs to step up your hourly rate. read more

We stopped by on our trip to Atlanta since it was next to Ponce city market! The vibe is super cute with lots of seating inside and outside. There was a great amount of veggie options as we are vegetarian. First let's talk about the drinks. We ordered a paloma and a Mexican Mule since it was only $5 for happy hour. Both were very weak and barely had alcohol. Would not recommend this place for the drinks Now for the food. We tried the queso as an appetizer. When it comes to cheese dip I'm a bit of a snob. It's pretty good but nothing special. Great cheese but the jalapenos are just plopped on top and a good queso in my opinion should have have other vegetables like tomatoes, onions, cilantro. But still 7/10 when it comes to queso. The chips were nice and crispy and a great taste. Felt like classic texmex chips and salsa. The entrees we had impossible nachos and cheese enchiladas. We appreciated having the options to be able to have both and with refried beans that we are told is also vegetarian. The refried beans were Delicious, the enchiladas had a great red sauce although could be cooked a little more to melt the cheese. The nachos were delicious with plenty of impossible on it. We ended up devouring both and feeling satisfied. Now for the elephant in the room. Yes they charge 20% gratuity automatically. Unlike a lot of these reviews this is no reason to bash a business especially one that is up front about this. The service was great and did not feel like this affected our meal. El Ponce is doing really solid pickup during the pandemic and it looks like they're opening back up, at least on the patio. It's also in a super convenient location. The queso and salso in the tres amigos are great, and it comes with an obscene amount of chips. The veggie tamalas are also really nice! Burritos are HUGE and to be honest you better be hungry coming here. I had the 3 enchilada combo, and I especially liked their guajillo sauce and the mole. Would definitely come back! read more

Every time I have been there my orders have been incomplete despite asking for corrections. That includes drinks and food. Two out of three times they had plenty of empty tables. hmmmm. Maybe I am not the only one who can choose somewhere else nearby? Generally I tip more than 20 percent for even average service. El Ponce automatically adds that onto the bill. I get it. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. Great patio(which is also very well heated in the winter), amazing servers, and tasty/delicious food and drinks. Great vegan/vegetarian options as well! There are some reviews on here complaining about automatic gratuity. Ignore them. If you don't agree with tipping great servers well, then you shouldn't be going to a restaurant at all. Especially during a pandemic. Those people probably don't tip anywhere they go and just need something to complain about... you know, Karens... El Ponce is a wonderful establishment and they have an amazing little store that supports artists in various countries and pays them a fair wage for their products too. Honestly, I can't remember too much of my meal because my friends and I got sloshed from the bomb margaritas. These margaritas are hella sneaky and you'll be downing them like juice. You think you're going to be fine like "these aren't THAT strong if they're that good" BUT YOU ARE MISTAKEN MIS AMIGOS! Give it an hour or two and you'll be slurring your words and on your way to black out town like one of my very fine friends that fateful Saturday night. I'm not a fan of cheese tacos/quesadillas/burritos because I think it is so plain. Like gimme some meat. Or some veggies at least! But just cheese and carbs? Ugh, please not like that. However, I was sharing a dish with said friend and she really wanted the cheese enchiladas so I indulged her because I love her with most of my heart. I'm glad I listened to her for once. I can't describe how these taste because....did you not read that first paragraph? I just remember saying "Damnnnnnnn these are some good ass enchiladas." I got the chimichanga when I was sober (because chimichanga is king to me) and it was good but it was like every other Mexican restaurants. Like I'm not mad at it by any means but I felt like the cheese enchiladas tasted a lot better. The esquite is okay but not as flavorful as I liked. Maybe with an extra squeeze of lime and some chili powder on top, it'd be a lot better. Anyways. Get them margs. But be sure to Uber there or get a DD. And to add injury to insult, they do the percentage of gratuity after the tax that's absolutely not the right way to do things IN BUSINESS. we paid cash, and they took an additional dollar from our change.. this is absolutely unheard of! the client should be treated as a valued guest not somebody they have to steal a dollar from after helping themselves to 20% gratuity after taxes. I live in the area and finally decided to check the place out on our way to the Fernbank museum. It was a little past 5pm on a Friday and it was not busy which was perfect. I ordered a spicy margarita and it was just okay. My boyfriend ordered a frozen margarita and received it on the rocks, we had to wait but eventually they got it right. We ordered the queso which might as well be called "soup" it was extremely watered down, very cheaply made. Also ordered the elote which was beyond tart we couldn't even eat it, it was very disappointing. For our main course I ordered two steak tacos that also lacked flavor it didn't come with sauces nor limes on the side which is standard when it comes to tacos, especially if you consider yourself to be an "authentic place". We also had the barria tacos which also tasted below average and the consume sauce it came with did not add to the experience. Overall the meal was awful and I would never recommend to anyone, you're better off going to La Fonda which is conveniently located next door. The other thing that caught me offgaurd besides the disappointing food was the fact that the serves automatically add a 20% tip to the bill for parties of 1 or more (so everyone). I always tip 20% so that's not a problem, I just feel that should be disclosed somewhere. Anyway, 0/10 the menu sounds promising and the patio looks inviting... I would AVOID. read more
