Went today for lunch based on the amazing reviews. Sadly the reality was far from 4.5 stars. We got a half chicken and a half rack of ribs. The chicken was good and the potatoes were as well. The rice was just ok not a ton of flavor. They also had cakes on a display advertisement but none in stock. The real reason for the poor review was the ribs. They were $30 for a half rack and they were the toughest ribs I've ever tried to eat. We threw them away after complaining to the lady and not getting any offer to fix the issue. She said that's how they are and acted like I was in the wrong. I'll never go back here even if the chicken was decent. read more

Got their grilled chicken twice now and it's perfect both times! First time, we just got 1 order of the half pollo and it came with the pickled onions and jalapeño, salsa and lemons. Second time, we got 3 orders of the 15pcs and they put it in 1 tray for us. It was way more than enough to feed a party of almost 30 people. All our party guests enjoyed the pollo too. 20 out of 10 stars! This place is my favorite business in all of Arizona. This is the best chicken I've ever had. I stumbled out on it a few years ago when I took a wrong turn. I saw the smoke coming out of the business and the bright colors and I thought to myself - this is authentic and this is going to be delicious. The business I was trying to head to (Escape Campervan, which is just around the corner) had an employee there who told me he eats here for lunch all the time as it's the best chicken in the Valley! Let me tell you. It did not disappoint. Literally every time I visited Phoenix I would come here. And then when I had the choice to move here my first thought was - oh yeah, I get to have this chicken. Their charbroiled chicken is better than the barbecued rib in my opinion but either are delicious so you cannot go wrong. Their macaroni salad is also great. Make sure to check your order before you leave. Service is fast but they can mix it up by accident (happened to me, so sad, but thankfully I noticed). Don't be daunted if you don't speak Spanish. The menu is also in English and Spanish. Just point and you'll be fine but chances are you'll be served by someone nice who speaks English. This place is great. Update: They do accept credit card with a 3% convenience fee added. They now also let you give you a tip if you pay through credit card. read more

Great service, the wait time was minimal. We ordered a whole chicken and a side of beans. When you don't feel like cooking this is a perfect option. The tortillas are fresh and hot and we like the salsa, chiles, onions and lemon. They really complement the flavor of the chicken! The girl at the counter is really nice. Heading back home from the May 1st rally/march I was hungry and headed to the Ranch Market on 16th St to get some chicken and tamales. When turning off Jefferson onto 16th, El Pollo C caught my eye and I thought... must be worth a try for a chicken place to obviously last so long on this nondescript corner. Seeing the wood carbon charcoal and ample grill I knew that they were old school asadores. Bottom line...very good chicken and home made tortillas. Not the ambiance or ample menu of the Ranch Market, but great for take away. I think it may be worth a taste test between these two classical places to see whose chicken rules the day. I wanted to first off say this chicken was the best tasting the juiciest chicken. We walked in and it was busy. The place was small has a few tables. We got lucky and got a table! Ordered the 1/2 chicken and half ribs / Costillos. It came with corn tortillas and some sides. Pickled onions. Salsa. It was good. Ordered some beans and Mac salad. The beans were hot and tasty. Perfect actually. The ribs were crispy and seasoned just right for me. The chicken too. First bite. Really juicy and flavorful. I couldn't put it down. But had to dig into to those ribs. Like I said these ribs were a throwback to when I was a kid and my pops would bbq some ribs. No sauce just salt and pepper and charcoal. So good! Our first time here and we'll be back. read more

Picked up dinner for the family from El Pollo Correteado the other night. First time visitor. Had made the 20 min trek based on recommendation of @azfoodie on Insta. First of all, service was very nice and accommodating. Lovely, service oriented family establishment as so many other reviews have said. We got the following: Drumstick/Thigh 20 pieces 4.5/5 - Average size chicken pieces. Great flavor on chicken, I picked up around 4:30 and chicken was taken from a holding hot box that contained both chicken and ribs. It definitely was reheated though as it almost melted through the styrofoam and was still piping hot when I arrived home. But perhaps just a tad dry for dark meat. On my next visit I will hit prime time and hopefully get one of those fresh off the grill birds I could see them cooking up as I waited for my order. The accompaniments that come with the chicken were great! The salsa is pretty spicy. Some in our tribe loved it, too hot for others. Would be nice if they had a mild as well as a spicy version. Corn Tortillas were plentiful! We had quite a few left over. Regular Beans(not the baked beans) 5/5 - These beans were so good! Such good flavor! I'm still dreaming about them! Rice - 3.5/5 - Adequate not particularly flavorful. Not bad, could be better with a little more seasoning or tomato flavor. Had the chicken for the first time here. Reviews are spot on as far as great flavor and moist. The sides are a big plus. The chicken is placed in a Styrofoam container and this will take away from a crispy skin by the time you get home. Overall the flavor is the best I have had so far within the 5 mile radius I live in and out of 3 other similar type chicken. This wins as it is mesquite grilled and the wow factor is there. Phoenix has no shortage of good asadero establishments but a friend had strongly recommended this one to me. So, on the way home from a hike at South Mountain and feeling too tired to cook, I decided to come here and take out an order of half chicken. The pollo asado was so delicious! Cons: 1. Nobody speaks English (seriously, I had to use google translate to let the worker know that I wanted all thigh meat vs breast since thigh is the juiciest. Do you guys have growth in mind? or would you rather stay stagnate and only cater to hispanic customers? smh 2. Inconsistent Food Quality. Another person mentioned the food being dry. This was true for me originally, until I request thighs only. 3. No Rice. A mexican spot that doesn't offer rice. I had to get rice from La Pinata restaurant to go with this meal. 4. This place kicks ass. Please eat here at least once in your life. Just be careful that this place may ruin all other chicken tacos for you. It's so damn good. And anyone saying this place is pricey is outta their mind. A whole chicken costs $20, yes, but it's meant to feed two people. You're supposed to put the chicken in the tortillas they give you and then put whatever extra stuff you want in there, not just eat the chicken by itself lol so, splitting it with another person puts it at a little over $10 per person which is completely fair. read more
