After a long day at the Phoenix convention center, we realize that we didn't have a snack to eat so on the way to the freeway decided to stop by my old stomping ground food truck spot. There are usually two different trucks in the parking lot the first one has Tacos, Burritos, and more while the second one is more seafood base and also has the infamous Sonoran hotdogs. It was hard to not go all out and get dinner, so instead decided to get the Carnes asada tacos & Burrito (to split) along with a side of rice & beans. They weren't stingy with the meat and it packed flavor. Man, they both are on point & hit the spot for us. If you have cash, a bonus as they do tac on a small fee for credit cards. I have been here in 2017, which was 6 years ago and loved the tacos I had and had to come here this time while I was visiting Arizona. Monday late morning, it was not busy but some people were there. We got two burritos con carne asada. $11 even each, however, they do charge credit card fee of $1. So, it came out to $23 for two burritos. I saw most of the people were paying in cash. The food was beyond amazing. We had fancy Mexican food in Sedona which we were not amazed by the taste but surprised by the price. This place just made us happy in all ways. The amount of meat in the burrito, all the ingredients and seasoning making great harmony together, the service and the reasonable price! However, it is a food truck so it was a little bit chilly as it was cloudy and their tent above us doesn't block the wind blowing from the side. This was A-OK. I believe their unique selling point is their late hours that they're open - they know their audience. Be careful being here late at night, as it gets sketchy. I don't think I would have felt safe even ordering and eating inside my car if I wasn't with my husband. I got the asada, lengua, barbacoa, and pollo tacos. Two of each, eight tacos total for $28. I don't appreciate the extra $1 charge for credit card transactions, especially since they don't tell you until they're charging you. There's no sign that says so, either. Anyway, they all pretty much tasted the same. My husband said they were dry, right after we got them. The barbacoa was the one that stood out to me. I wish there pollo was more properly marinated. You can always expect authenticity and humility from taco trucks in Arizona. This truck is open late, and serves great food. Stopped by after a long flight home, and was impressed by the amount of meat they put in their tacos. The prices are not outrageous (8 tacos, 2 sodas for about $32), but they're not dirt cheap either. In terms of quality, the tacos were good - not the best, not the worst. Just like my fellow Yelp compadres Jimmy P, Cher-Yee L & Sohan P, I'm a huge fan of La Frontera! Major props to Cher-Yee for introducing me to this place in summer 2017. I was a little leery when he gave me the cross-streets -- it's not exactly in the greatest area of Phoenix -- and the parking lot is a bit of a hot mess express. What location lacks for makes up for everything else. You know it's authentic Mexican if they serve cabeza (juicy tender meat from around the head of a cow), of which I've ordered every time. Pro tip: no hablen ingles, so might want to bring Google Translate if you're one who no habla español. Or just say "Yo quiero _____". Get a cabeza burrito! They're seriously almost the size of my lower arm. And only $6 cash! Add in horchata (one size only, also the size of my lower arm) and you'll be well-fed for less than $10. In the last 2 months, I've been in NorCen Phoenix 2xand purposefully driven to La Frontera on my way home. One of those times I was able to save most of the burrito for the next day's lunch. Hungry. Late night 1am Taco run. Difficult location to find maybe for the first time, next to a Jack In The Box in the back area parking lot. Maybe harder to spot from the side of the road. Just a food truck. Ordering was easy, preferably done in Spanish. They have the menu on the side so it's not too hard. Cash only* Wait time was fairly quick, around like 5 minutes. But then again there wasn't that long of a line. I tried the carne asada, Barbacoa, al pastor tacos. I believe the carne asada was my favorite one it was very moist. The Tacos hit the spot when you're hungry at night Comes with lime and cucumbers. And they have to Salsas the green and the red sauce. I prefer to mix both the sauce on the taco. There may be some cats around, if you're allergic to them. But there was only one. Overall, a good experience and probably my top taco place for now. I have never had anything so good in my life. Perfectly seasoned, authentic preparation, ingredients, fresh, layers of flavor built upon one another. I imagine I could move to Phoenix just for this. Its like a bunch of Mexican grandmas got together to make the most exceptional, loving meals a taco truck could make. This is no hipster food truck. This is a gem and a taste of home. First visit, I had Carne Asada Tacos (excellent), Chorizo Con Crema tacos (Delicious and rich), but my favorite of all was when I came back the next day and had the Cabeza Burrito. Ohh my goodness. This was the best burrito I have had in recent memory, likely ever, and I have been all over the country and every major city in most every mexican district in my travels. This was stewed so tender, seasoned so well and balanced with spice and fat (especially with the fresh lime squeezed over), perfectly melted cheese, layers upon layers of flavor... It was amazing... like I heard the voice of God himself as I tasted it. The salsa verde too was great and a perfect match to this along with the refreshing cucumbers on the side. So while we were walking 20-30 steps to get from #1 to #3 we purchased a fresh donut, it was delicious! Sonoran hotdogs are apparently a thing and because I love hotdogs, I made sure to stop by to try one. The hotdogs run $3 bucks a pop. I (think) there's coating of beans on the hotdog, and is topped with tomatoes, onions, jalepeños, and shredded cheese. The bun was toasted and robust enough to withstand the medley of toppings. The hotdog was great - it was unlike anything I have ever tasted. I liked that touch of beans because it gave it this distinct flavor. Not much to complain about considering it was three bucks. When I told people back home I was moving to Phoenix, I always got one of two responses: "It's hot as hell... but it's a dry heat" and "I hope you like Mexican food." Well as luck would have it, I'm a major taco guy, and La Frontera is the real deal. It's in a parking lot behind a Jack in the Box, and the eating space is constituted by a few tables outside under a tarp with pigeons and a stray cat hanging around. In my opinion all of that really authenticates the whole experience. They have all the meat choices found at any legit taco shop, and they do them well. Someone once told me you can really judge the quality of a good taco place by their tortillas. Well, this place definitely makes their own and fries em up to perfection. I would definitely recommend the asada, lengua, al pastor, and chicharon tacos -- maybe the cabeza if you like some good head ;) Also the chili verde burrito is a delicious, fat ol thang at $6. Throw some cilantro-lime crema sauce on that bad boy and settle in for the ride pal. They're open late night and are pretty much the perfect way to cap off a Friday or Saturday night downtown.
