    Original Mozzarepas
    Alexis W.

Tried this place out at the AZ Taco Fest, the line wasn't long at all but the smell is what lead us to try the Original Mozzarepas! Great pricing & honestly what is more south west than some cornbread.. It was the first thing we had & we will definitely be going back to try more!

Horrible. Do not eat here if you're vegetarian. We got here first thing in the morning and I asked if the arepas were vegetarian. They said yes so I ordered. When I came to pick up it was on the grill with meat. When I mentioned it and told them I couldn't eat it since it had meat on it they didn't care or attempt to make a clean one. They handed my "vegetarian" arepa to me with beef strands on it. Yuck. Do not recommend. Edited to add: the arepas are 100% frozen first.

Best thing I had in a minute !! Tons of flavor and so soft it melts in your mouth. It comes with mozzarella cheese, green salsa and red cabbage. This is a must try if you want to have an explosion in your mouth. We also had the regular arepa with mozzarella cheese which had more of a sweet flavor compared to the shredded beef. To the lady behind making these. You're an artist.

Yum! I went to an event where MozzArepas was doing the catering and I knew I had to try it. This is South American cuisine, homey yet sophisticated. Colombian menus lean heavily on beef, root vegetables and sauces more reminiscent of tangy marinades than the chunky salsas of Mexican fare. An arepa is a patty made out of cornbread and water. They can be baked or fried and then eaten plain or with fillings. Arepas originally began as just a plain snack that is eaten on a daily basis in Colombia and Venezuela (they're very similar to Pupusas from El Salvador). Eventually, the fillings evolved into more elaborate and creative combinations. There's nothing you can't fill your arepa with! Grilled to perfection and satisfying. Think a grilled cheese but a million times better. I ordered the Mixta which comes with braised beef, adobo chicken, pork, pickled red onion, purple slaw, cilantro aioli, and is of course heaping with mozzarella. In a word? Delicious! I was originally worried that it might be too heavy on a hot Phoenix day but I couldn't have been more wrong. Even with the bread, meat, and cheese, they go down lightly. The employees were friendly and generous with their time even though they were busy. They attend special events all around town and this is one food truck/pop-up that I will definitely order from MozzArepas again!

Oh Em Geeee! These are amazing! Semi sweet corn cake grilled cheese! The crust on these is so good and oowie gooey cheese, so good!

Terrible prices and they don't post them. At best, their food is okay. Spend your money somewhere else, this place is a joke.

Severely overpriced! Tiny portions with big price tag, didn't like it and not the best customer experience.

I must have had a brain fart or something because right after I walked in, the worker greeted us and immediately told us they had empanadas. He said they had chicken, beef, and cheese empanadas. I immediately ordered three chicken and three beef. I forgot about the arepas. The guy said it would be ten minutes. So we browsed their store. As soon as you walk in to the business, the small place looked like it is set up to ship packages. It has a small grocery store in the back, and has a kitchen on the side. The whole store was small, but clean. There was no seating in this place as it is not a sit down restaurant. Food orders are placed to go. Almost ten minutes exactly our empanadas came out. We took them to our car and ate there. We wanted to eat them fresh and hot and boy were they steaming hot. I loved the crispness of the shells. The filling was very flavorful and moist. I dipped them in the salsa and they had had a nice kick. They were delicious! We were able to polish off four. After we arrived home some thirty minutes later, the empanadas were still warm and surprisingly still crispy! I ate the last two. I will definitely return to try their arepas!

For $16, you get four mixed empanadas of your choice. That's a good deal, I think. But, the empanadas were on the smaller side. The owner was very friendly and informative and let us know these empanadas are made in the Columbian style. She also mentioned she lived in Mexico for many years and learned to make empanadas the Mexican way and combined some of those flavors also. The empanadas I had were all very tasty and I liked the salsa verde that came with the empanadas. I had the traditional (had a kick to it) and arroz con pollo. I gave Sherpa the calentado and chorizo ones, but no report back if they were good lol. My only gripe here is that the empanadas were a little more greasy than I usually like. On their website and in photos, they say their empanadas are air fried, but I think I recall seeing oil fryers outdoors yesterday. I try to keep fried foods to a limit as I don't always feel great after eating a greasy meal. And I have to maintain a svelte physique, just kidding there. Diabetes and heart disease run in my family, so I am very mindful of what I put into my temple. I also ate these after climbing as there is no way I could have had these empanadas in my stomach prior. Also interesting is that the vegetarian and vegan ones were kind of food color green. I guess you need to be able to differentiate them, but the color was off-putting. I'd give this place another try but would prefer baked empanadas. I love empanadas, just please hold the grease.

The restaurant is a very good size with lots of room and tables available. The decor is that of PR culture which is very colorful and bright. We started off with canoa which is a plantain stuffed with ground beef and cheese. It was very hot and delicious! For our "platos principals" (main entrees) I had the pechuga de pollo (chicken breast with grilled onions) with mofongo as my side (also comes with a side salad). It was very tasty and not dry at all. BFF had the pernil (pulled pork) with arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) as his side which also came with a side salad. For dessert we shared the tembleque which is a coconut pudding but not in the traditional sense of pudding (more like a jelly texture). BFF also ordered coquito (holiday rum drink) & apparently our server (Sophia) omitted the rum so the owner came by and offered a fresh glass. Speaking of, everything was wonderful except that Sophia seemed to have a bit of a poor attitude as she wasn't too friendly. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt as perhaps she wasn't feeling well but out of the corner of my eye she had this almost "eyeroll" look. Perhaps she just didn't want to be there (she was friendly upon us leaving and thanked us). Anyway, I highly recommend this establishment. Both food and ambience was great and the service was too.
