Good all around Mexican food here. You have to try the tamale........you'll love it! I also enjoyed the chile relleno although mine was SO covered in green sauce(very mild) that it was hard to see where to cut it! El Pique is a small restaurant at 19th and Main in Springfield, right across from the Dari Mart (where South A merges with Main). I probably drove past it a thousand times before I finally gave it a shot. I am so glad I did! The first thing I notice is the clean and comfortable interior: nicely painted walls, healthy plants, corner mounted TV playing pleasant Hispanic pop music, brightly colored menu boards with photos of food, nice wooden furniture with padded seats, vintage-looking Coke machine, and a shared copy of today's local newspaper. The main reason I notice this is because these are things that my normal burrito joint does not have. The next thing I see is that this burrito place features a drive through, a full espresso menu (lattes, mochas, Americanos) that rivals dedicated coffee shops, as well as the fountain drinks (including unsweetened tea), coffee, and Horchata one would expect. They also open at 7:00 AM on Saturday, which beat my regular choice by an hour (and this actually means a lot to me). Of course, none of this would matter if the food was terrible or had ridiculous prices. I have stopped and purchased breakfast burritos with my wife on three occasions now. My wife gets the sausage burritos, and I get the meatless burrito. We both order the whole wheat tortillas. At no extra charge, I get homemade refried beans added to my meatless burrito, which already includes eggs, potatoes, and cheese. My wife's burrito has sliced link sausage, potatoes, and eggs and cheese in it. Our other favorite place doesn't slice the sausages. These burritos are really, really good. They are generous in proportions, well wrapped, and they do not skimp on the good ingredients. In addition, the staff brings out a couple of squirt bottles with salsa verde (green sauce) and a pink sauce that turns out to be chipotle (smoked jalapeno) sauce. Both choices are delightful and I use whichever one is not in my wife's hand at any given moment. The prices are very reasonable. On the menu, my meatless breakfast burrito with free refried beans is $4.50. My wife's sausage breakfast burrito is $4.95. I think we paid extra for the whole wheat tortillas but I failed to take note of it. El Pique's staff are polite and efficient, which I would also say of our previous favorite. But our previous favorite burrito place hands out paper towels for napkins and has the cheapest plastic patio furniture possible. The bottom line is that El Pique is in the exact same price range as the other burrito joints in town, but I find the store itself much nicer. And my wife can order a nicely priced latte while I add Splenda to my unsweetened ice tea. read more

I guess if people do not know authentic Mexican food this place can be fantastic to them. But growing up in a Mexican household I had high expectations of this place. The exterior showed promise and but they didn't serve hotchata which is like.. Wah? And second I ordered some tacos de asada a staple to any Mexican and I just was not impressed. Tacos are supposed to be exploding with flavor and the seasoning in the meat but I got a bland taco with a lot of cream which just made it blander They were so nice though and real sweethearts. These guys know me pretty well by now as I've been eating here about once a week for the better part of the last year. I covered the basics in my first review... but as a token gesture towards food -- want to not eat for three days (in the good way)? Come by on a Wednesday and score a giant wet burrito with all the trimmings for $5.75. What really makes El Pique great is that the entire staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. I don't know any of them outside of the restaurant, but every time I come in I feel like I'm getting a quick bite at a friend's place - not at some random taqueria on Main in Springfield. The food is so delicious, you can tell that they make it with love. I have never met a nicer staff in my life! Everyone is so welcoming and kind, they really make you feel at home. I am hooked on their nachos but totally enjoy their chicken tacos! My husband loves their fish tacos and my son loves their Chorizo burritos. The price is perfect and atmosphere is comfy! My only complaint is that it's not open later on the weekends, but it's only fair they have a life too! Love this place!! read more

Ordered a Sausage breakfast burrito w/ no beans. The burrito size itself was an average size for 4.75. Taste was good, great ratios of cheese and sausage. The potatoes were a bit undercooked for my liking (personal preference), but not bad. red sauce was not the best I have had; I think it was too much chared flavor from the peppers in it for my taste. The service was great, the older lady behind the counter seemed to know all the regulars. Drive through is a great touch! I think this place is great, just not the best in town. I do think people should try this place at least once. I will probably come back occasionally since I do not live next to el taco grande near gateway anymore. This ia a little hole in the wall place that serves great Mexican food, and when we ate there we were treated to great customer service. I had taquitios, 2 each of chicken and beef. My wife had 2 shredded beef tacoa. Both meals were delicious and filling. read more

I'm from San Diego, so I'd like to think that I have a decent idea of what a Carne a dada burrito tastes like. The burrito wasn't a carbon copy of what I'm used to by any means, but the taste was awesome and authentic. The woman serving me was also super nice, which never hurts. And tho some might think the red sauce is too mesquite tasting, it tasted just right to me. The only thing that was somewhat less than satisfying was the horchata. Have been eating at this place for years and have loved it....but the last 5 or 6 times i noticed some things started to get different. I like chips and salsa and nachos. I started to notice the chips were kind of stale. At first i thought i didn't eat my nachos in time, then i got chips and salsa....i tried that 4 more times. Every time the chips were flimsy and stale! I guess they are making to many or reusing chips from the day before. I hope they are not making sacrifices that will drive business away. This morning was not my first breakfast burrito from here, but for some reason today it was ESPECIALLY delicious. I'm picky, so I modify my breakfast burrito order and they ALWAYS get it right-- which is wonderful! The tortillas, refried beans, and green sauce are hands down the best in the Eugene/Springfield area. I love this place! Also I always go through the drive through and they are very efficient. It's so cheap for a giant burrito, and they use better ingredients then other restaurants who sell burritos for a similar price. The people that work there are also extremely friendly. We ate here because it was right next to the hotel we were staying at and what an amazing little find. It is a hole in the wall Mexican food place but the food is incredibly delicious and flavorful.
