My boyfriend and I came here around 7:30pm on a Saturday night with no reservation - we were lucky to seated very quickly by friendly and English speaking servers. Was looking for a great tapas bar while on vacation in Madrid and stumbled upon El Mini Bar and so happy I did! It ended up being my favorite place to eat there! The customer service, food, and drinks were all on point. This place has a comfortable hipster/laid back family vibe that made me feel welcomed and relaxed. The dining tables were also spaced out enough to allow for a bit of privacy for conversations which was very nice! I only tried two drinks which included the tinto de verano (sangria) for 3 Euro and the mojito for 7 Euro. Best mojito I've had so far! I ended up going two nights in a row so I can try a variety of things on the menu. I was with my boyfriend and between the two nights we enjoyed the Crispy boar rolls, Cod + shrimp, and the Iberian sirloin with veggies and then the sirloin again but with grilled potatoes, green peppers and tomatoes. We wanted to go a back for a third time but also wanted to try other tapas bars around Madrid. Well, we ultimately regret that choice! The tapas and raciones were honestly the best I've had in Madrid and I was blown away by the quality. The price point was good for the quality of both the food and service provided. This place was top on my list of places to try in Madrid. I was able to make a reservation via Facebook, so they automatically get points for that. Our table was ready at exactly the time we requested. We liked the vibe in here, which was fun and artsy with 90's and 00's American music videos on TV in the background. We did get the sense that they cater to mostly tourists. The food was overall good albeit uneven. We ordered the following: - Grilled cheese with crust on tomato jam and coriander oil: MUST ORDER. This was easily their best dish. If you like sweet and savory, you will love this. - Eggplant with bacon rolls in a tomato orange sauce with feta: We didn't care for this. The orange felt a little out of place with the rest of the ingredients and we felt that the overall combination did not come together. - Crispy boar roll with portobello sauce: Pretty tasty. The boar was very tender and the roll was indeed crispy although it quickly got soggy from the sauce poured on top. We expected the portobello sauce to pack more punch than it did. I think this dish would benefit from a different sauce that is served on the side rather than on top. They also threw in a complimentary tapa of cocktail wieners on bread with our drinks, which was alright. Portions were big. We were full after three tapas and a couple of drinks. Prices are pretty reasonable taking that into consideration. The waitstaff were extremely nice, but there appeared to be some disorganization with who was actually serving our table. For instance, when we ran out of bread, about five different workers stopped by our table to ask us if we wanted more. We eventually said yes just so they would stop interrupting our meal. We appreciated their attentiveness and their warm smiles, but they could probably benefit from assigning just one person to each table. I was definitely craving tapas and chose this place based on reviews, menu, and their prices. I liked the easy to read menu listed both in Spanish and English. The waitress provided us with two bite sized bread topped with tuna. It was quite tasty. My husband ordered the Iberian Sirloin Chunk tapa, which was delicious and perfectly cooked with onions, bell peppers, and zucchini. I did order the grilled goat cheese, only because it was a favorite at this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I never had anything like this and it's worth trying, especially if you get to share it with someone else. It's a lot of cheese for one person, unless you are a serious cheese lover. We did get here early so no reservations needed, but the place was full on a Wednesday evening by the time we left. So, I do recommend that you make reservations if you plan on coming after 8pm. I studied in Madrid for the year and Minibar ended up being one of my favorite places that I tried. Although it can get very crowded around dinner (even on weekdays), you can usually snag a table without a reservation if you have a small group. Over the year, I tried nearly everything on the menu, but the goat cheese tapa, the fajitas, and the calamari ended up being my favorites. The portions can be quite large, so I would recommend just ordering one or two tapas to start and then order more. The drinks at Mini Bar are also amazing. Promptly seated inside, the waiter explained their signature dish - a melted cheese tapa (tapa breton). The steak was flavorful and potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The tomatoe and pepper aren't just for decoration as they go well paired with the steak and potatoes.
