loved it! everything we had was spot-on like we would have in Peru (except for the odd combination of feta with the choclo -- Peruvian cheese -- as no one eats feta in Peru, and queso fresco/blanco is easily found in the area). my husband, who has become a big fan of Peruvian cuisine was thrilled not only with his meal, but with the fact that they sell Alfajores (cookies stuffed with manjar blanco -- very similar to dulce de leche and covered in powdered sugar), which are his favorite. prices are completely reasonable an portions are huge. it's BYOB so come prepared if you want a drink to go with your meal; theres not really anything walking distance. place is pretty tiny but worth a wait. based on a precious review, i want to poibt out that while I don't know much Colombian food, I grew up in Miami (with mostly cubans) and I don't think that Cuban is a good comparison for Peruvian food, by the way. if you don't like Cuban, don't let that put you off trying Peruvian. read more

Went to the Dover location on Rt 46 with my parents for dinner. Had to practically beg for bread, and then again for butter. Salads were medicore at best,safood paella, have had MUCH better. Terrible customer service, nobody checked on us, to ask how our meal was. There was a communication problem to be sure and it would help if the ENTIRE menu had the english translation! I truly wanted to like this place. I'm honestly surprised by all of the positive reviews. My coworkers and I got together and ordered from El Marino over the weekend. I ordered the chaufa mixta which is fried rice with pieces of chicken and steak and scrambled eggs. It comes in a decent sized aluminum platter that could have fed about 3-4 people easily. The problem was that they skimped soo hard on the meat that by the time two people had helped themselves, there was a TON of rice, but absolutely NO meat left. For $14 that's a complete rip off... My coworker ordered a half chicken which he didn't even eat because it was completely undercooked and inedible. It was 100% pink inside so he threw it away. Another waste of money. My other coworker ordered the beef stew which comes with rice and beans. What she got was a piece of steak that was very soft and tender, but it literally sits in a bed of beans rather than its own stew which kinda threw us off... Taste wise, it was pretty decent. Aside from the food, I wasn't too fond of the service we received. My coworker (fluent in Spanish) called to place the order so we could pick it up since they do not deliver. The lady taking our order over the phone was rude and chastised his Spanish when he actually speaks very proper and formal. When I went to pick up the food, the woman was also pretty obnoxious in person. She responded to everything I said in Spanish when I was speaking to her in English. (I'm not bilingual) I didn't feel welcome here and it was at that point I really regretted paying for overpriced, basic food. I wouldn't recommend this place whatsoever. read more

I was so excited to eat at a Peruvian restaurant around the area, and I was not impressed, waste of money, not tasteful. My boyfriend ordered rotisserie chicken, and it was dry , and the "salad " that it comes with it not impressive at all, other places comes with a sauce or some type of dressing. We also ordered stuffed potato, as an appie, and it was cold inside, no flavor at all. As my entree, I had green pasta with steak on top (tallarines verde)and i had to add a lot of salt because again it had no taste, the only thing that had flavor was the steak. I wanted to show my boyfriend a nice Peruvian place to eat, and it did not meet my expectations. Also, when I asked the lady if they had chicha, she said only by the bottle, and I can clearly see them in pitchers as well, which I would have loved to taste, homemade chicha is better than the bottled one always. It is really sad because I really was looking forward to eating eating Peruvian food! and although I saw some low ratings, I decided to try it anyway, because it looks very appetizing on the pictures, but the taste is what really matters. Totally different & totally disappointing, Apparently they changed hands and gone is the fantastic food. Instead you get a very limited menu with limited quality of food. After bragging about the place to a good friend, I was left stunned & speechless by the changes. The only thing that remained the same is when paying by credit card they don't have it set up to leave a tip. This is unacceptable, lucky for the server we had some cash on us. read more

Another gem in Dover! The Mount Hope Ave locale is small and not easy to park, the Belmont Ave locale is much bigger. Love the ceviche mixto, the defining dish for El Marino. For my first visit I lucked into the rare special of mondonguito a la Italiana- beef tripe in tomato sauce mixed with French fries, really tasty and memorable. The chaufa- fried rice is too reminiscent of Chinese versions but nothing wrong with that in terms of taste. The owners and servers were friendly and helpful, and the value can't be beat. read more

We have been to Marino's 2 times now. I ordered the seafood soup, which is delicious. The seafood in general was good. The "fried rice" had too much soy sauce for my taste. My husband ordered the "churrasco". He was disappointed when a steak resembling chuck steak was brought out. When ordering we had thought that the "churrasco" was skirt steak. The waitress was accommodating and changed my husband's order to a sirloin steak as the "churrasco" steak was tough and not very good. They do not carry skirt steak... which is what most other Latin American countries refer to as Churrasco. read more

My husband had Heard of El Marinos in Dover from a hairdresser. We weren't sure what everything was but the waitress was very helpful as well as other patrons. The chicken soup was one of the best we've ever had and the Moduros were cooked perfectly and extremely sweet. We ordered the Jalea Nortena witch was a mix of fried seafood with some Yuca. It was done perfectly and more food than we can possibly eat. We will be back again to try some of the other amazing looking dishes. read more

El Marino serves large portions of above average Peruvian cuisine, similar to Colombian and Cuban. Had beef stew and spicy fried rice, both flavorful but not spectular. Service during lunch was fast and had plenty leftover to take home. Would recommend El Marino to friends. read more

My wife and I decided to try a couple of restaurants that we hadn't tried before and tried Marino's cafe because of the reviews written here and we weren't disappointed. The food was delicious and the portions were enormous and the prices were cheap. Each meal we ordered could have easily fed two people and we left with a large doggie bag. The wait staff were very pleasant and happily answered any questions we had about the menu since it was Peruvian food that we were unfamiliar with. We kept seeing other peoples food being brought out and when we asked what the dishes were the waitress was happy to tell us. We can't wait to go back to try some of their other dishes. I would have given the place 5 stars except I'm not a fan of tvs playing during dinner time and I wish they had a liquor license. read more

One word...RACIST. I went there with my boyfriend(who is Peruvian) and my brother and sister in law(who are not). The waitress was EXTREMELY rude to us from the start. We had to ASK for utensils and plates. Normally i would just chalk it up to a forgetful waitress but when we noticed that she didn't act this way towards any other tables we realized that it was because not all of us were welcome there. We also noticed that when the waitress would leave the table she would laugh with the other waitress in our direction. The food was good(i have had better) but i would never set foot in there again. I know of many more Peruvian restaurants that are cheaper with great food and nice to EVERYONE no matter your nationality. read more

I was disappointed with the service. After reading several positive reviews, i thought I'd give it a chance. Unfortunately, our server catered to everyone else but us. The totones and fried yuca appeared to be cooked in a rush and had an old flavor to them. The green sauce (i love green sauce) was the only dipping sauce they offered and it was to spicey to enjoy. The second serving of green sauce tasted like mayonnaise and appeared to be straight out of the fridge. The Chalfa was ok and the rotisserie chicken was flavorful. Its unfortunate, but i wont be back. Will stick to Gordos in Paterson. read more

First and LAST time I will dine in this restaurant. The service was awful!! The waitress seated us but never set the table and we had to ask for plates and utensils. Every other table she was helping had utensils and plates. The two appetizers we ordered didn't come out together. When the waitress brought out our entrees only two of the four dinners were ready and we had to wait another 10 minutes for the other entrees to come out. The waitress never took the appetizer plates from our small table and when she finally brought out the other dinners she knocked over half a soda into my entree. She then walked away like nothing had happened. I went to ask her for a new dish but she would not confront me. The other waitress who was helping a customer on the phone had to help me and waited on our table from that point on. I didn't get to try my first plate because the waitress spilled the soda. When I got the replacement order it seemed watered down like they just changed my plate and didn't prepare a new one. When we where leaving the two waitress were laughing at us I will NEVER eat from this restaurant again. read more
