Came here for their lunch special on a weekday and it was so worth it! Food portions were huge that we took home to eat for two more days. We received all the food pictured for around $20. My favorite was the fried fish and pasta - very well seasoned and crispy. The pollo saltado reminds me of the food I had when I went to Peru. Let's start by saying I AM PERUVIAN. And I think when you go to a restaurant about your food, you are extra critical because you grew up with it, so I know what I'm talking about. This review is not based on something I learned in another restaurant.. this is based on childhood experiences and the TASTE of the food. This place got ONE star just because of the server: Tania. The Honduran girl was amazing, super service oriented and I LOVED her, if it wouldn't be due to her, this place would had gotten MINUS 5 stars!! I got here and they didn't have typical Peruvian breakfast and this is a Peruvian restaurant, they had the regular: eggs, etc but for that breakfast I could had gone to a diner. Still I didn't let this "minor" situation stop me from ordering some yummy Peruvian food. I ordered a combination plate: caucau, ceviche, huancaina and rice. The rice was old. I can tell it was from yesterday, warmed up in a microwave, it wasn't fresh, the caucau had CHOCLO (a no no) also green peas and carrots (green peas and carrots go with mondonguito a la italiana and not with a caucau) and also lacked flavor, meaning it was not made with the water where the mondongo was boiled with, didn't have hierbabuena which is also a staple in this dish, the huancaina same thing, no flavor.. it was a "water down" version of the cheese and ají amarillo sauce it should had been and the ceviche, was ok.. I think that for the type of food I was served was waaaaaaayyyyy over priced. Do yourself a favor, drive 20 minutes extra and go to Passaic or Paterson and enjoy good Peruvian food there. Here I even got charged for the CANCHITA, which is free is ALL Peruvian restaurants. Or the owner is not Peruvian, or he/she is too greedy. If you decided to come, BEWARE and eat at your own risk. Me personally, I'm not coming ever again, I'm better off getting the ingredients myself and cook it in my place. I can cook better than this chef. read more

I'm a big fan of Peruvian Cuisine, however this is not the best option around. I was increasingly disappointed with each visit at Marino's Cafe. I used to be a regular at this restaurant and would always look forward to the food here. Not sure what happened but it's abundantly clear changes have been made, and Not for the better. Love, love this place! I highly recommend this place and it's sister restaurant on Mt. Hope. Both serve great Peruvian food but open on different days of the week so be sure to call and make sure this location is open when you go. I love this place for its huge portions! An amazing meal should be enjoyed twice and their portions certainly allow for that. I ordered the steak over their Tallivin Verde (I think that's what it was called...see photo). Twas phenomenal! And the pieces of potatoes on the side were cooked to perfection. I can't say enough good things about this place. When I was there, the waitresses mostly spoke Spanish. I was trying to ask them what the sauces were for because I thought they were going to give chips to munch on before our entrees came. The poor waitresses were confused and I felt bad... Wish I remembered my Spanish from high school. But they were all very pleasant and accommodated to all of needs. Don't order water unless you want to pay $1 for a bottle. They don't give out tap water. So might as well try out one of their juices. The Mango one was pretty good. They offer single cups of juice or by the pitcher... Just moved to the area and was/am still looking for my new local peruvian place to eat at. We ordered a papa a la huancaina, 1/2 pollo a la brasa with fries, and a chicha to go. Pros: Chicken was well seasoned and the chicha was probably the best chicha I've ever had! The waitress who helped me out was very nice too. They also had small servings of lucuma ice cream to purchase and it was very delicious! Cons: Huancaina and green aji tasted bland, almost watered down? There was no spice or salt which was very disappointing because I LOVE huancaina sauce and the green aji that usually comes with the chicken. The french fries were all right, tasted slightly stale or maybe they were freezer burned before they were out into the fryer. Excellent ceviche. Saturday and Sunday the menu is extended by specials. This dish was described as "chicken with braised onions", a woefully inadequate description for tender pounded chicken breast in a wonderfully seasoned red sauce with peppers, onions, olives, and RAISINS! Talk about big portions!! I was stunned by how huge my plate was. We found this place through the other location's yelp review. The restaurant is quite large with TVs showing latin programs. The waitress helped me navigate through the menu and recommended the steak with basil pasta. The flavors were great, and the price is very fair. My friend had the seafood paella and it looked amazing as well. We saw a lot of families eating there and the vibe is very casual. I had the papa a la huancaina to begin. It tasted like they forgot the aji. Total lack of flavor. Then tallarin saltado de carne. Big portion. The noodles had good flavor. The meat however was the let down. Restaurants, quit using cheap meat! The meat was not tender and as it cooled it got tougher and tougher. Beef jerky could be made this way. The food was good and the amount is copious. I ordered the pesto spaghetti with chicken. The spaghetti had plenty of sauce and wasn't dry unlike Riconcito Peruviano. Riconcito gives a cheese sauce on the potato and adds sweet plantains. I paid about $15.50. For the amount, I find the price to be reasonable. I found this restaurant because Riconcito was closed today. Needless to say I'm happy that it was closed. Otherwise, I would not have ordered from here today. This is my first time but it most certainly will not be my last. The hot sauces (2: red & off white colors) were good. I'm writing this as an honest recommendation to the business, because you're going to get someone sick or worse. You can't send out mussels that haven't opened after cooking them. This means they are bad. I received a total of 5 unopened mussels on my order. Somebody looked at FIVE TOTAL mussels, thought nothing of it, and stuck it on a dish. There's no justification for the $20 price tag on a seafood dish when half of it is BAD. To top it off, the menu is MISLEADING and POORLY WRITTEN. Trying to tell someone that I want the "shrimp plate" on Ubereats is a bag of surprises. Will it be the ceviche or will it be the paella? Unfortunately for me it was the paella. Turns out this "shrimp plate" came with 2 shrimp total, but lots of calamari and bad mussels. Please fix your menu. Please describe what your dishes actually contain. They should know it contains crab, calamari, mussels, etc. People know what "ceviche" and "paella" mean nowadays, I promise. read more

When we complained about the meat he offered to give him palomilla instead and then he charged us for the churrasco. And since when do they charge for cancha? The only thing I would recommend from El Marino is their Classico plate which is half ceviche and half fried seafood (w/ white dipping sauce) and/or their Leche De Tigre. I am SUPER picky with my ceviche because I'm Peruvian and have had some of the best ceviches in Peru but theirs is ALWAYS ALWAYS on point. Background: I have been going to El Marino since way back in the day when the only location was on Mt. Hope. I have had their soups and meals from the lunch menu. I don't remember them being the best at Peruvian style roast chicken so I have never tried it BUT their ceviche I was obsessed with since day one. Also, their freshly made Chicha... Not the glass bottles one... But the one that taste super fresh. Transition to new location: I still only order their Classico plate or Leche de Tigre. Conclusion: Not sure if it's the place to venture into if you have never had Peruvian food. (Maybe for the area...since it's pretty much the only Peruvian spot around but I'm not even sure about that) definitely good spot for a ceviche or Leche de Tigre. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. When we first walked in at 7:30 on a Friday night and saw it was empty, we should have turned around. We had the beef with spaghetti and the beef was so dry and chewy it tasted like jerky. We ordered the seafood paella. The girl brings out shrimp paella and we tell her we didn't order that and she insisted we did order it. After going back and forth with several servers, they decided to give us what we ordered. It was horrible. Hardly a seafood paella. Just a mound of rice with some calamari, a crab, four muscles (one was not even opened) and two tiny shrimp and some of those giant mealy inca corn kernals. The green sauce I asked for tasted rancid. Made my bad paella worse. Do yourself a favor and save your money and stay far away from this place read more

Thought I'd give this restaurant a try since the place I normally order from was closed and this restaurant isn't too far from home. This was my first experience with Marino's and was honestly kind of disappointed. I called in an order to pick up (papa a la huancaina & tallarin verde solo... my go-to at every Peruvian spot for as long as I can remember). The papa a la huancaina sauce was very plain and not flavorful at all as I'm used to and the potatoes were not cooked well either. The tallarin verde sauce was very watery, almost soupy with a strange taste as well. For the amount of food served it was also pretty costly.. the prices in the menu aren't always what is charged either. Kind of a shame since it's so conveniently close to home, I will be sticking to my usual place in the same area from now on! read more

BEST PERUVIAN RESTAURANT IN TOWN! I love this restaurant and many of the dishes that they serve. There is a huge variety of dishes that you can choose from. From Peruvian style pastas to seafood dishes that are all amazing. My favorite dish has to be Ceviche de Pescado. I would definitely recommend everyone to try this dish.
