The chicken is always flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked--that's why I keep coming back. However, the service is consistently very slow, whether the restaurant is busy or not. I've had the same experience at multiple locations, so it seems to be a company-wide issue. I strongly recommend placing your order for takeout at least 45 minutes before you plan to arrive. It reminded me of my 2-week visit to Peru. The chicken was cooked in a brick oven with wood and charcoal and was perfectly prepared. The Pisco Sours were well made: I hadn't had one for many years. Came here for lunch and ordered a Bistec a lo Pobre with Churrasco and the food was amazing. When I paid the bill I noticed it was $40 and that was a lot compared to other Peruvian restaurants' prices. The bartender (not the server who served me) came over and talked to me about the price but I showed him that online for the same dish was $35 versus the $40 in-store price. He told me online price is different and in-store is a different price. So I told him how could online be less because that made no sense. He went to the back with my bill to see what they could do and he came back with no solution to the price. He said that the sermust've had a communication problem with me in English when I ordered and I clarified to him that I ordered everything in Spanish which was the native language the waitress talked to me in. The bartender apologized only to offer me a juice as a way to fix the problem because the bill was paid for before anything was talked about. This place has great food but has been very sketchy maybe somewhat fake when it comes to its customer service. Came here on a Friday night for dinner. The place wasn't packed and we were given a table right away. Our waitress was not the nicest - I asked for tap water and she tried to convince me to get a bottle instead but I told her tap was fine (other people had tap water, and I've had it before as well) and she rolled her eyes at me which was very rude. We waited to get the check for over 10 minutes, and had to waive down her manager to get it because she wasn't coming to our table. This place already includes an 18% tip, which seems unfair considering the treatment you're receiving. We ordered a tacu tacu with lomo and it was okay at best - for $22 it wasn't worth it nor anywhere compared to others I've had at Peruvian restaurants in Jersey. I passed by this place many times, but never get the chance to try it.. and finally!! It was really a pleasant surprise! The decor is cute.. love the llama at the front!! With the music playing in the background really do make you want to dance :) It's good that I came with someone who speak Spanish.. They are all very kind and explain different dish to my friend's mother.. and I felt like they are becoming friend.. we ordered Lomo satado mixto, Chicharron de pollo, and Arroz con mariscos (like paella).. Great service! We had a little language barrier and had to ask for another waiter to help us, but everyone was professional and polite. Plus, we got out food and drinks in such a timely manner despite being a group of 10. Noisy, lively, and dim, and there's a fun llama statue to pet! Occasionally they offer live entertainment too. I ordered pollo a lo pobre and it was alright, but the other dishes we had were great! The ceviche, seafood, and steaks and other grilled meats were delicious. For plantain lovers, the maduros and tostones were excellent! To drink I ordered the "chicha morada" and it's like a delicious cinnamon spiced fruit punch. The tres leches was milky and moist, and it definitely makes me want to go back to try the Oreo version. The alfajores were nice caramel filled, powdered sugar dusted shortbread cookies. My wife and I come to this location often, looking for good food. We knew the restaurant had changed names. It used to be called Mr. Yellow Pepper. The layout remains the same, but the decor and most, if not all, of the cooks, waiters, and waitresses have changed, according to our waiter. The menu has also changed, although some items seemed familiar. Our server was the only recognizable face from the old restaurant. We enjoyed our time and appreciated that we weren't rushed. The food is good, just as it was before. One thing that bothered me and I felt I should share this with you was the bill. Take a look at the attached picture: "18% Service Charge." I asked my waiter what the service fee was for, and he explained that it's distributed among the entire staff. I asked him to remove it because I didn't think it was right. He mentioned that the service fee could not be removed. When I handed him my credit card to pay, he gave me the payment terminal. The first screen displayed four suggested tip amounts. I selected the last option, "No Tip." Normally, I would have easily given him 20% or more in cash. My wife and I dine out often and know that cash tips are preferred. I guess in the end I saved some money. This whole tipping situation is getting out of control. First time there will also be my last time there! When we first arrived I thought, well nothing has really changed in the interior from prior owners. Not much of a decor or ambiance, but ok. We were a party of 7 on a Thursday and there was plenty of available seats but they took some time to set us up with a table. We get seated and had a pleasant server come over. We spent some time going over the menu to all decide what we were having. The waitress came over and we ordered or drinks and dinners at once. I would like to point out that we were 4 adults and 3 kids age 10-14. So 2 of the adults were sharing a whole roasted chicken meal, one adult and our youngest guest (10) were sharing another chicken meal, we then had one child order a fish fillet dinner, one adult order a skirt steak and the last child order what was supposed to be a standard Peruvian meal with steak, chorizo, egg, rice, plantain and fries. The waitress repeated the meals back with the Peruvian names which none of us knew and then went off. After a little while the meals start coming out and they arrive with a 2 tier serving anchor filled with all small plates. Our entire table starts telling them that we did not order this item. The food carriers go to get our server who comes back and basically insists that the one child ordered this meal so it is our issue. Trying to be gracious my friend said 'if it was a mistake then leave it'. The server who we later found out was the manager never told us this meal was $120. You would think that even when the child first ordered, you would ask if this was correct due to the price tag. Who takes a $120 meal order from a 13 year old and doesn't point out to a single adult at the table that the meal is $120. I'm absolutely appalled at the fact that she would not point out the price, even if an adult ordered it. $120 is a lot of money. And to then not even try to make it right, is just absurd. They saw when we were getting the bill that it wasn't even touched. To me this is a complete lack of ethics and professionalism. I would highly recommend staying away from this restaurant. The manager made a very poor business decision because I will never return and I will be sure to inform everyone I know of my experience here and that they should not go. First the positive, the food is good, rotisserie chicken was very tasty, fried rice was decent. Tallarines saltado was too salty. Ok now the bad service was horrendous our server spoke zero english which was not a problem since I speak decent enough conversational spanish. She basically ignored us most of the night, asked for ice never came, my chicken didnt come with the rice it was supposed to, had to ask another server came out 15 mins later. We were done eating and didnt not see the waitress for a good 20 mins later and she walked right past us not checking on us once. The worst part to me was the prices on the bill being higher than the menu we were given. No problem I get things cost more now so they need to charge more but I dont like being blindsided. A few night orders were very slow but that was ok it's a new restaurant. What is absolutely ok and disgusting was when I ordered to go this past Thursday and I watched an employee walk over to the Togo area, stick his hands in an order of food, stuff his face and wrap it up. I thought it was possible to be his food since it was 830 so I didn't say anything. The waitress then came Over to me and grabbed my order which included that container.
