Capisce Trattoria is inviting , clean and has a display of gourmet pizza that is very appealing . The margarita pizza has a delicious red sauce with pieces of basil . The Greek salad which i was excited to try was plated nicely in a tower shape, tomato's , cucumbers and feta was crumbled on top. It has plenty of calamata olives, which i thought was generous . Maybe too much , I was missing anchovies and didn't bother to ask about it. The server asked me what kind of dressing do i want ? Greek of course i said. So they gave me oil and vinegar and it was spiced with the right herbs , I don't think you need to ask what dressing goes on a Greek salad , seemed obvious to me. I ate half of the salad , packed the rest . I kindly wanted to bring to the attention. To the chef that there were wayyyy too many chopped red onions . I showed her , who will eat chunks of red onion - it was a miss on the chef - otherwise it was a good salad- I threw out the excess of onions . . . Just a few sliced red onions is fine. The challenges of eating out. I had a feeling who ever chopped the onions was inexperienced . Things should be uniform and light. Some retraining is required. They accommodated my interest of sports channels , tennis especially . I still feel I need to micromanage my dishes out . I will return with my special requests of course . read more

We came here last minute on Saturday night as we were in town for an event and needed to grab dinner beforehand. I was in the mood for Italian food, so we decided to give this place a shot. I called ahead to check availability, and I'm glad I did! We didn't have a reservation, but thankfully the manager let us know that they'd have a table ready for us around 7:20pm (it was roughly 7pm when I called). My husband and I were just down the street, so we decided to go ahead and make our way there. Once we got seated, we were quickly greeted by our server, Mike. He was very attentive and friendly! We later learned that it was his second day on the job, which we found shocking as he did such a great job! As for the food... I'll be honest, I was a bit disappointed. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana (my favorite Italian dish) and my husband ordered the Risotto Primavera. The Eggplant Parmigiana was not crispy at all, which was super disappointing! It had a great flavor, but I prefer a crispy texture so this didn't really hit the spot for me. It came with linguini noodles with tomato sauce, which was very bland. Whatever sauce they used did not have a great taste to it. As for the Risotto Primavera...it had a RICH flavor to it. My husband said "it's good, but not good enough to order again". I, on the other hand, didn't like it as I thought it was just too rich in taste. The food wasn't the best, but I'm giving them 4 stars because the overall service was fantastic! Everyone was so attentive, helpful and friendly, from the host to our server to the manager. It's rare these days to find a team where everyone is pitching in and happily doing so! read more

Ate here on a recent Friday night with family, our party had nine people. The place is huge. We arrived just after six. It wasn't that busy and we had to wait for others to arrive. The waiter was quiet but professional and courteous. The appetizers were great but the sausage and long hots could have been a little bigger for $17. The fried calamari was good. Everyone enjoyed their meals but most of us said the same thing, the portions should be a little bigger although one person had a veal chop which was a decent size. This is a hidden gem! Cozy ambiance with white able cloths, cute outdoor patio, and friendly and attentive service. The menu has a little bit of everything for everyone from pizzas and pastas to see food and meat dishes. Portions and generous and prices are very reasonable. We love this restaurant! It's authentic Italian and they have delicious pasta dishes, including a Pappardelle with a Short Rib Ragu. They also make a wonderful Seafood Risotto seasoned perfectly with Saffron. Service is also excellent and friendly. The restaurant is clean and beautiful! They offer both intimate booth seating as well as a large dining room that is more formal and has beautiful views of their lit patios. We also enjoy eating on their lovely patio during the nicer weather. It's a relaxing and delicious byob. We love that it's also in a convenient location right off of Route 10 and South Powder Mill Rd in Morris Plains. read more

Visited on a Friday evening at "prime time". The restaurant was near empty. On a positive note the food was "good". Unfortunately the service left quite a bit to be desired. Would think with so few people seated, service would be very good. Waitress rarely checked on us at all. One order was completely wrong delivered with another's main course. She was nearly done before what I actually ordered showed up. Owner never bothered to visit to check on anything which happens nearly everywhere else. No service recovery such as an offer for free desserts or anything else. Took a while even for the check to be delivered. Kudos to the kitchen staff, definitely some training to be done with the servers and better engagement by the owner and/or manager if they ever expect to be successful. Only one chance for a first impression. Will not be returning. Too many other Italian restaurants with impeccable service and amazing food. read more

I have tried to like this place. I'm a long time customer of this location since it was Il Villagio. Regardless of the name or owner, the food was consistently deelish and the service always outstanding. I have tried Capisce 3 times and the food was inedible twice. I did not complain, just left a full dinner plate. I have never been asked what I thought or if anything can be done to improve. The owner paces near the kitchen but never walks through the dining room. He keeps earbuds in and makes no eye contact with customers. There are so many better Italian places in the area. 3 times is not the charm at this one. read more

The restaurant seems new, although it has reviews over 6 months old. Decorated quite nicely simply not garish. They have people shadowing their wait staff. When we got to our table it was a bit shaky so the waiter put a shim under one of the legs which is good. The appetizers soup and long hot peppers were warm not hot, again they had good flavor just not hot. Both my wife and I had chicken dishes and both pieces of chicken were a bit tougher than we expected. I believe this restaurant has a way to go improve before we would return. I will return only if future reviews show a big improvement. read more

We ordered take out at Capishe. Ufortunately had a very disappointing experience. The fettuccine Alfredo had almost no flavor at all, which was surprising for such a classic dish. The food here is great. I stopped in for dinner with my husband. I had the tri color salad with burrata and added some grilled chicken on top. It was very refreshing and enjoyed it alot. if I could give no stars I would. Ten of us went there on May 27th to see Anthony Duke Claus and have dinner. Entertainment was the ONLY good thing about the place. Took forever to get waited on, the owner chastised us because we didn't call ahead to let him know our reservation went from a table of 13 to a table of ten. I would have called if I knew before heading out that three people at the last minute couldn't make it. In addition to the above, five dinners went back BECAUSE there was BLOOD from the waiters cut hand on our dinner plates. The manager was called over, r3moved the plates and new dishes were brought out however one of the dinners was so OVERCOOKED that it couldn't be eaten. They gave us a "senior discount" of 25.00 dollars off of a $267 (before tip) bill. When further comments were presented to the manager and owner we were told, "you got free entertainment". Obviously they do not care at all. Maybe they'll care when I call the board of health tomorrow. Stay AWAY from this place. read more

it's been a while since i've been back to this spot because i moved out of the area, however, i used to come here for as long as i can remember - when it was villagios! the food is always exceptional as well as the service. very easy to make a reservation or walk in. this was the first time i've been back since they changed the name & everything was just as great as i remember. they can make accommodations to the menu, specifically to a vegetarian diet & it's byob - there's a liquor store right next door. their outdoor patio is so peaceful & was very quiet. looking forward to sitting on the patio when it's even warmer. the bread comes with a mild hot oil with garlic spread which was so good, clams casino, arugula con citrolo salad, gamberi e rabe, sautéed mushrooms, & cavatelli e salsiccia - which they were able to make vegetarian without the sausage. everything was delicious! im also excited to try the pizzeria next time im up this way. read more

The food was just not good, alfredo almost tasted like coconut and the bolognese was just mediocre meat sauce over poor quality spaghetti. The bread was stale and side salads unsurprisingly average. Just returned home from a lovely dinner this evening with my DW and a neighbor. The dining room had pleasantly separated tables with white linen cloths and linen napkins. Very soft music was playing overhead. There was ample parking in the Powder Mill Shopping Center lot. There is a sheltered courtyard outside, but we opted to dine in due to the weather. While reading the regular and special menus, water and basket of fresh bread with butter and garlic/olive oil was made available. Our wine was opened [it is a BYOB restaurant.] My celiac wife opted for the enormous special pear salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I had the large caesar salad. My wife had the veal special, and our server, Benny, made sure it would be prepared gluten-free. I had the chicken capisce, with 2 large chicken breast slices, asparagus, mushrooms in a light brown gravy over penne. I would order that again, but my wife was slightly disappointed in the chewy, but tasty veal. We were too full for dessert, but the menu choice was tempting. The pacing of dinner was just right, allowing for a nice leisurely meal. The menu clearly noted the pricing of items was for cash, and there would be a 3.5% surcharge for credit card use. This seems to be standard nowadays and was not hidden from diners. We will return. read more

Great food, but I was turned off by their "flex" pricing. I ordered once before, and paid one price. I ordered again yesterday, and paid a higher price. When I inquired, I was told that "you have to ask for the special pricing". I was not offered a refund of the difference, even though the lower prices were CLEARLY marked inside the store.
