I passed by on a Saturday around 4:30pm with my son for having an aperitif with a starter. We saw the very high ratings on yelp. Nice ambience. So we took a place at the bar for having a glas of wine and some tapas. Nice thing is - they give you the wine for tasting first also if you order by glas. Bad thing most of the wines by glas are far to long open and they do not vacuuming the bottle / so the wines are oxidizing fast. My son a chef and sommelier tasted 3 wines and decided after the 3rd to just go with a beer. I had the Ergo - a Tempranillo - it was just ok but not really good anymore (no nose). We than had the guacamole - they make it fresh / that was really good. A good spot to go - but please, please take better care for the wine -also with a limited selection you can get a lot out of it doing it the right way.

Delicious tacos. Shrimp & Pork are the best.

Yes, please and more. The homemade guacamole is where it's at. You need to order this immediately upon entering. The space the tapas bar is in has always been small and cozy - so best for dates or 3 friends at the small tables. Definitely intimate. Great food and wine selection and all at good prices. Often when I'm at El Mariachi around the corner, I feel like I don't get enough value out of the dishes there. Or flavor. Here though, everything just comes together. The one ding of a star comes from one of their salads - Ensalada de Nopalitos. It came with cheese which wasn't listed, which is fine. My fault for not asking. The real issue was the dressing it came with was a pretty basic balsamic. I guess I was expecting something else and not just balsamic dressing on top of a cactus salad. This is becoming a go-to place for suggestions when meeting up with friends. Can't wait to make this more of a regular neighborhood spot.

The entire party was there momentarily and had to ask for our food order to be taken after 30 min- watching them, they had all staff making drinks but they said only one person was bartender. Simple drinks 3 mimosas and 3 bloody Mary's still a few mixed up(spicy, no olive, lots of olives). We all ordered risotto breakfast items. It took another half hour to get our meals we had to ask for the Sriracha drizzle which was described on the menu. Tea, breakfast bowl and the cheeseburger, risotto were excellent. The timing was off some people did not receive their dishes for a while so we had to start eating. We inform the waste staff we had a show to get to and Schenectady and still had to ask for the check. Bathrooms were clean ambience was pleasant. If I were to guess I would say the kitchen was not prepped and ready to go. Luckily, we got to our 1pm show but not much time to spare. So if you're not in a hurry and not too picky, I would definitely recommend their breakfast, the unique offerings of comfort, risotto bowls. I would prefer my egg to not be well done on top not sure what their protocol is, but we weren't asked.

My last visit there I was the only person in the restaurant and despite a bartender and a server I could not get my drink made correctly and I couldn't get any service and I walked out. In the past, the bartenders and servers were very friendly, but the last time they were terrible, miserable, unfriendly, and not attentive.

The cuisine was Italian inspired, and heavy on vegan and gluten free option, which is a great find locally, if you're looking for that. We were sat upstairs and I enjoy the ambiance here. I will note that the chairs are uncomfortable, which does not make a cozy dining experience. The cocktail menu was really great, a lot of gin options which is right up my alley. I had the Corpse Reviver and a glass of wine, both were great. We started with the shrimp balls, which sounded intriguing. They ended up being delightful, almost like loose crab cakes. The flavors were great and I loved the pesto. For my entree, I opted for the lemon mushroom tagliatelle. The pasta was very fresh and chewy, loved that. I enjoyed the combination of lemon and mushroom on the dish, but there were so many different mushrooms of all different textures, that some bites were more enjoyable than others. The snapper puttanesca was gorgeous as well. Overall it was a good meal, but I might have liked it a little more before the change. Definitely a great option if you are looking for dietary restrictions.

I arrived for my reservation as my partner was parking and sat for 10+ minutes before someone even acknowledged I was there and offered water. When they came in, a waitress came over and apologized for not offering me water while I waited. Fine. We went to order dinner and it took 25 minutes for THE WORST gnocchi and tagliatelle to arrive. The gnocchi was supposed to be cacio pepe and it would've better served as wallpaper paste. The tagliatelle had zero taste or flavor and the noodles were raw. Both came out cold. The only saving grace was we didn't have to pay for the monstrosity of a meal and we will never have to go back.

The blonde bartender is hands down one of my favorites -- she's attentive, welcoming, and always makes sure we're taken care of from the first drink to last call. Albany is a 2.5 hrs drive for me and I make a "mini vacation" out of it. I research restaurants online (Google and Yelp) and build up lists of places I think I might want to visit. Because the ONLY thing I'm interested in when I road trip is where I'm going to be eating. Bar Vegan has been on my list for at least a month now. I'm not Vegan, but I LOVE the fact that there is a Vegan SCENE in Albany and I am HERE for it. My thing is anywhere I'm going to dine has to also have a full bar. Because I am going to spend some time and have some drinks AND eat all the food. Dining out is my only leisure activity and I make the most of it. This past week my car was at The Dodge Dealership all day and when I finally got it back (about 4:30pm Wednesday) I knew I needed to wait out rush hour before attempting to head back to Vermont from Albany. I chose one of the restaurants on my list and started driving. The restaurant I had intended to go to is on Lark Street in Albany. Come to find out FOUR of the restaurants on my "To Do" list are on Lark Street. I had no idea what Lark Street was. Lark Street Is FABULOUS!! What a WONDERFUL neighborhood. PACKED with fantastic, local, independent, DIVERSE restaurants/eateries, independent funky shops and businesses, beautiful brownstone type buildings; all intersections are the original, exposed, cobblestone from the 19th century. FREE, abundant on street parking. ALL THE VIBES!! And as I was driving up Lark Street, falling in LOVE with it, I passed Bar Vegan and made the decision to go THERE! So I forgot about my planned destination, parked my car and headed. Bar Vegan is precisely what it sounds like: a bar that is also Vegan. The menu is limited, but also is PRECISELY what you want in a bar. Fresh, delicious, diverse, shareable...VEGAN!! This is SUCH a good concept. It's hard for me to emphasize how great Bar Vegan is. The place itself is fantastic. HUGE, open, welcoming space. Tons of light and greenery (there's apparently a second floor, but I did not see that). The bar is large and welcoming. The seats are comfortable. There are TVs. (I like that in a bar...I have no idea why...). The place is SPOTLESS. Next door is a Poke Bowl spot that looks pretty great. It is connected inside to Bar Vegan. As in at the end of the bar you can just walk into the Poke Bowl place. I asked if the Poke Bowls were also Vegan?? My bartender told me they were not. Bar Vegan just opened up the wall between the two businesses to share their air conditioning. And THAT is all you need to know about the VIBE in this place. It is IMMACULATE. These are good people doing good things and serving good food and drink! I am a Gin and Tonic girl. You think it is a simple drink. It is not. Most places can't produce a decent G&T because their tonic is flat. I had two Gin and Tonics at Bar Vegan and I tried two gins I had never had before (which is big for me - I know what I like and that's what I drink...). Both were very good. My bartender allowed me to look at both bottles and read them to decide if that's what I wanted to try. And then she made excellent G&Ts with those gins. I sampled almost everything on the menu. It was ALL good. STAND OUTS: The Vegan Sushi Roll: As I mentioned above, I am not Vegan. In fact, sushi is my JAM and I do NOT do these types of huge, fried sushi rolls. Ever. But I did this one. And it is FANTASTIC. The menu says it is meant for 2 people and would be perfect for sharing. It is HUGE. It is built around tempura sweet potato, so is quite filling. Hands down the BEST Vegan sushi roll I have ever had (and I've had quite a few). Could easily be your entire meal. Delicious, satisfying. Ticked ALL the boxes! Bang Bang Cauliflower: Look, I'm a sucker for anything Bang Ban or Cauliflower. So I was IN on this. It is DELICIOUS. Delightfully spicy and warm and perfectly cooked cauliflower (I do not like my cauliflower crunchy...). I also had Golden Triangles: Delicious fried Tofu with peanuts and Asian seasonings. REALLY GOOD. Just lighter fare. Zucchini Fries: ACTUAL Zucchini battered and fried. VERY GOOD. Chick Pea Bruschetta: which is when I could not go on. I was too full. BUT! These are EXCELLENT!! LOADED up Bruschetta with Chick Peas. Delicious and perfect for sharing. Ask for extra napkins... SUCH a great place. Wonderful service. FABULOUS vibes. EXCELLENT food and drink.
