The fresh mushrooms on top were good. The sauce/gravy was plentiful, a little too much for my palette. $25. White cloth tablecloths and cream cloth napkins on tables were very nice and elevated the dining experience. There was one pleasant server who did everything. She was very busy, so it took a little too long to pay bill. Warning to anyone with mobility issues-- There are eight steep steps to reach the front door. There was a good railing on one side. On this visit, I had the Shrimp Tom Yum Noodles special while my friend ordered Chicken Tom Yum Fried Rice from the regular menu. This would be an indication that we like spicy food but knowing that Natalie makes her own spices we asked for the entrees to be "mildly" spicy. After tasting the entrees my friend declared the meals to be "crazy good," but he was glad that we ordered them mildly spicy since the spices were making his face sweat a little. He was very happy with the meal. Never one to shy away from a lycee drink, I ordered a Lycee Saketini, which I loved. It included about a 1/2 ounce of sake. We also ordered an Everett Porter Beer which tasted and looked a lot like coffee- chocolate stout. It was delicious. Our server, Ben, helped us with our drink orders. He's very knowledgeable. The restaurant is cozy, welcoming and can seat perhaps 30 people but it's important to call ahead to make sure there's enough seating. I almost forgot to mention desserts which are to die for. The mango cheese cake was amazing.

Xandra helped me pick the right meal: the scallops with a Thai chili sauce and rise. The five scallops were large, tender, perfectly cooked, and tasted amazing. Thankfully, the Thai chili sauce only had a bit of sweetness to it. Even the rice was fantastic. Xandra was attentive, a great listener, and a real help. My Hendrick's Gin martini was phenomenal. Exceptional actually! The vegan chocolate mousse was creamy and light but too sweet and loaded with cinnamon. So much so that I tasted nothing but cinnamon. I cannot recall ever having cinnamon in a chocolate mousse before. Even so, that didn't destroy the night and I look forward to trying the blackened Ahi Tuna next time as well as trying a different dessert.

It took another half hour to get our meals we had to ask for the Sriracha drizzle which was described on the menu. Tea, breakfast bowl and the cheeseburger, risotto were excellent. The timing was off some people did not receive their dishes for a while so we had to start eating. I'm not sure if there is a separate entrance but my wife was on crutches and she managed to get up the first three into the restaurant from outside but I don't think dining on the main floor would have been an option for us. Our server, Mike, was awesome and full of energy and enthusiasm. He offered suggestions and answered questions about details of the dishes. We were pleasantly surprised with how many menu items were marked v - vegan and v* - can be prepared vegan. This is great for us because it's another place in Albany that we will be able to go out to dinner with friends and everyone will be able.to find something to enjoy. The fried Artichokes are a must if you're looking for a starter. We were eyeing up the Fennel salad or vegan Caesar salad but opted to move on to main entrees. On this night they were out of the Gnocchi Cacio-Pepe which personally, I am not a gnocchi fan to start and Mike told us they were substituting a buccatini pasta instead... this had my attention! I went for his suggestion and chose the Arrabbiata instead which was delicious. My wife enjoyed her Wild Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto. We skipped dessert for this evening but there were vegan Gelato and cookie options for dessert as well. From start to finish it was such an enjoyable experience in this cozy corner restaurant which offers outdoor dining in the summer in the heart of Albany. We will totally be back with friends for another delicious meal at Rosanna's, the hidden gem in downtown Albany!

The burger/fries and chicken dish were average. The tortellini and garlic bread were below average. Tortellini tasted like it was just frozen and undercooked and then served warm, not hot. The garlic bread...how do you mess up garlic bread. It was $7 and it was literally two pieces that were the size of my pointer finger, and one of the pieces was burnt. I would have been embarrassed to serve it as complimentary, let alone charge for it. The three meals plus the two mini pieces of garlic bread came to $110 including tip. It was overpriced for the quality of the food. I would say at the most this should have been an $80 meal including tip. I would have given a 3 star review if that had been the price. I live in a pricey area and I'm not picky. I believe this is the only time I've given a restaurant anything below 4 stars. The place was clean and I like that they bring a glass bottle of water to the table.

Since the weather was iffy, we didn't purchase the Groupon ahead of time...but the nice young man that was both bartending and waiting tables gave us a heads-up about it. We purchased it prior to the end of our meal and saved a few bucks. Spindles is a small, intimate space with a lovely tapas menu and a few regular sized meal choices. There's a nice wine and beer selection as well. Service was good. We decided to try a few different items to share as much as we could possibly eat. We ordered rather rich, winter-centric (IMHO) food: Bacon wrapped dates, Chicken Pot Pie, Warm Baked Brie and Rosemary Cashews. There were several other tapas that looked appealing (ahi tuna, for example), but they were out of a few things (including the tuna). The Bacon wrapped dates (that include some chorizo) were sweet and savory - just as expected. They are drizzled in honey with plenty left over on the plate for additional slathering. The brie is almost like a dessert - the brown butter whiskey sauce is super sweet. The walnuts add a nice crunchy texture and the bread was served hot. We started with the rosemary cashews and a couple of glasses of red wine (Malbec...from the tap!). The chicken pot pie sealed the deal. I thought it was excellent, but if you are not into black pepper, this might not be the right choice for you. Very peppery pot pie (say that three times fast!) with big chunks of white meat chicken and veggies without excessive creamy richness. We enjoyed our meal and would definitely return when we are back in the neighborhood.

Albany is a 2.5 hrs drive for me and I make a "mini vacation" out of it. I research restaurants online (Google and Yelp) and build up lists of places I think I might want to visit. Because the ONLY thing I'm interested in when I road trip is where I'm going to be eating. Bar Vegan has been on my list for at least a month now. I'm not Vegan, but I LOVE the fact that there is a Vegan SCENE in Albany and I am HERE for it. My thing is anywhere I'm going to dine has to also have a full bar. Because I am going to spend some time and have some drinks AND eat all the food. Dining out is my only leisure activity and I make the most of it. This past week my car was at The Dodge Dealership all day and when I finally got it back (about 4:30pm Wednesday) I knew I needed to wait out rush hour before attempting to head back to Vermont from Albany. I chose one of the restaurants on my list and started driving. The restaurant I had intended to go to is on Lark Street in Albany. Come to find out FOUR of the restaurants on my "To Do" list are on Lark Street. I had no idea what Lark Street was. Lark Street Is FABULOUS!! What a WONDERFUL neighborhood. PACKED with fantastic, local, independent, DIVERSE restaurants/eateries, independent funky shops and businesses, beautiful brownstone type buildings; all intersections are the original, exposed, cobblestone from the 19th century. FREE, abundant on street parking. ALL THE VIBES!! And as I was driving up Lark Street, falling in LOVE with it, I passed Bar Vegan and made the decision to go THERE! So I forgot about my planned destination, parked my car and headed. Bar Vegan is precisely what it sounds like: a bar that is also Vegan. The menu is limited, but also is PRECISELY what you want in a bar. Fresh, delicious, diverse, shareable...VEGAN!! This is SUCH a good concept. It's hard for me to emphasize how great Bar Vegan is. The place itself is fantastic. HUGE, open, welcoming space. Tons of light and greenery (there's apparently a second floor, but I did not see that). The bar is large and welcoming. The seats are comfortable. There are TVs. (I like that in a bar...I have no idea why...). The place is SPOTLESS. Next door is a Poke Bowl spot that looks pretty great. It is connected inside to Bar Vegan. As in at the end of the bar you can just walk into the Poke Bowl place. I asked if the Poke Bowls were also Vegan?? My bartender told me they were not. Bar Vegan just opened up the wall between the two businesses to share their air conditioning. And THAT is all you need to know about the VIBE in this place. It is IMMACULATE. These are good people doing good things and serving good food and drink! I am a Gin and Tonic girl. You think it is a simple drink. It is not. Most places can't produce a decent G&T because their tonic is flat. I had two Gin and Tonics at Bar Vegan and I tried two gins I had never had before (which is big for me - I know what I like and that's what I drink...). Both were very good. My bartender allowed me to look at both bottles and read them to decide if that's what I wanted to try. And then she made excellent G&Ts with those gins. I sampled almost everything on the menu. It was ALL good. STAND OUTS: The Vegan Sushi Roll: As I mentioned above, I am not Vegan. In fact, sushi is my JAM and I do NOT do these types of huge, fried sushi rolls. Ever. But I did this one. And it is FANTASTIC. The menu says it is meant for 2 people and would be perfect for sharing. It is HUGE. It is built around tempura sweet potato, so is quite filling. Hands down the BEST Vegan sushi roll I have ever had (and I've had quite a few). Could easily be your entire meal. Delicious, satisfying. Ticked ALL the boxes! Bang Bang Cauliflower: Look, I'm a sucker for anything Bang Ban or Cauliflower. So I was IN on this. It is DELICIOUS. Delightfully spicy and warm and perfectly cooked cauliflower (I do not like my cauliflower crunchy...). I also had Golden Triangles: Delicious fried Tofu with peanuts and Asian seasonings. REALLY GOOD. Just lighter fare. Zucchini Fries: ACTUAL Zucchini battered and fried. VERY GOOD. Chick Pea Bruschetta: which is when I could not go on. I was too full. BUT! These are EXCELLENT!! LOADED up Bruschetta with Chick Peas. Delicious and perfect for sharing. Ask for extra napkins... SUCH a great place. Wonderful service. FABULOUS vibes. EXCELLENT food and drink.
