I do enjoy how small hole in the wall this place is and how the waiters greet everyone as if they are family that's been coming here for years. But for me the food was mid at best. For the price of a small horchata I expected something epic. And you can tell it's not homemade. I had three barbacoa tacos and they weren't special at all along with my burrito with potato's, egg, and bacon. I find most places are scared to give bacon out with their burritos/tacos given the price of back but still! Also the tortilla flour and Miaz are not homemade and after hitting it out of the ballpark with a few choices the last few weeks this is disappointing. First ones in on an early Saturday morning. Very warmly greeted even though they were busy with prep work. Great little Mexican food diner. Very retro/family feel. My chalupa was my favorite order. Chorizo and egg tacos (they call them burritos) were nicely filled. the chicken fried steak was not huge for a change and came with plain potatoes (which I prefer but some do not) Prices are very reasonable Only breakfast and lunch (I think) Street parking for the most part but there is a parking lot around the corner Early morning isn't that much of an issue in this part if town. I finally found an opportunity to revisit one of my favorite independent cafes in Oak Cliff. So happy El Jordan is still in business. Food and service are still top notch. Get here before 11am to find street parking before the greedy valets take over spaces right in front. Although prices have increased it is still much less than so many other places especially for breakfast or brunch. God bless this family run business. I support independents and locals. read more

If you frequent the bishop arts area, you've probably passed this place so many times but didn't realize it was there. Personally, I didn't realize this place existed until this past weekend when I went searching for breakfast taco. The outside of the restaurant is pretty dark and brown and you can't quite see into the restaurant from outside on the sidewalk, but you will leave pleasantly surprised and full. As I mentioned above, I came to try breakfast tacos I was ecstatic when I asked the cashier if I'm able to order egg white breakfast tacos instead of regular eggs since I don't eat the yolk. I ended up ordering potato and egg tacos, and added bacon to mine. Two tacos came out to seven dollars and change. I found the service to be A1. The cashier smiled and greeted me and asked me how I was which I appreciated. Since I wasn't dining in my weight time was pretty minimal and fast. Don't forget the sauces when you go. I actually love the mild salsa and the spicy salsa definitely has a cake so it'll be very gentle. Overall, I loved my takeout experience. I will definitely be back the next time. Great family owned and operated restaurants like this are becoming increasingly harder to find. This is kind of place where you feel like you are eating in family members kitchen. The potatoes that came with the migas are the best I have ever had, soft on the inside with and just crispy enough outside. The service was quick and great over all. It has the feeling of a small town cafe on the square and the food to match. I ordered two eggs over medium which they came out. Exactly that way, two sausage patties, and two pancakes and all was tasty. The eggs already had salt on them so if you don't like a lot of salt, you might ask them to hold the salt (I don't salt my eggs - just pepper) My server was probably in my top five ever of being the most friendly. The prices were incredibly reasonable, and I can highly recommend this place for a good basic breakfast. If I come back, I will definitely try a breakfast burrito. read more

There are so many other businesses on Bishop Avenue calling for your attention that you tend to miss the still small voice of El Jordan. When you go inside, don't expect to be in awe of what you see. Instead, expect to be in awe of what you taste! I ordered the chorizo and eggs. I thought that it would not be enough since it was only $7 so I also ordered the French toast. I was wrong the chorizo and eggs were enough it came with beans, potatoes and tortillas. It was a very satisfying meal. The French toast had a unique taste that I also appreciated. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is an Mexican restaurant but they also have meals that would appeal to people who do not prefer Mexican food. read more

Not a super fan of this place, it was just okay at best. Their flour tortillas were rubbery and I'm not 100% sure on this but I assumed they were NOT homemade or made in house. The chips and salsa where the highlight of our meal as those were very tasty. I tried to order a migas taco but the waitress didn't seem to even know what that was and said that they couldn't make that even though they obviously have All of the ingredients necessary and are a Mexican restaurant that serves Breakfast tacos / Burritos. As I previously mentioned They have chips for the salsa and being a "restaurant" you can't tell me they don't have eggs, onions, tomatoes and cheese which all mixed together makes "migas" anyways moving on from my anger and not being able to get a migas taco the food that we did get was just average and kind of bland for what it was. Don't get me wrong I've had worse and all in all it wasn't a bad experience it was just not memorable or satisfying really. the question is would I recommend this place? And the answer to that would be, I most certainly would not ask you to go out of your way to dine at El Jordan Cafe but I would say if you are in close proximity and craving some Mexican food and just don't want to go any further then yeah sure why not. It's still the friendly and inexpensive neighborhood Mexican/American breakfast and Mexican lunch cafe that it's been for 22 years. It's the Oak Cliff I remember. Imperfect and without apology, El Jordan continues to serve their regulars and newcomers good to average food from 7AM early until 2:30 in the afternoon when they leave the District to its new persona.Breakfast is the big seller and they do very well. You'll be more than full and content when you leave. We were there for late lunch today. There's plenty of coffee and plenty of salsa and I like mine muy picante! The green is my favorite; but you will have to ask for the hotter salsas. A delicious medium salsa comes to your table with crispy thin fresh corn chips. We had the medium size guacamole today. Luscious and creamy without any additives and a very generous serving for two people, it was nearly gone before our entrees arrived. My husband's beef tamale plate was average, according to him, with above average masa and perfect Spanish rice. I had a beef and cheese enchilada plate with delicious refried beans and a good cheese enchilada with onions but a lackluster beef enchilada. Salsa cures all seasoning ills for me and I still left the table a happy person. The plating doesn't look all that appetizing as their chili gravy is reddish orange. It always has been. It tastes right, though! Sweet service as always. Funky dusty Mexican decor with interesting Hispanic paintings on the brightly colored walls. The booths are comfortable if you can snag one. I recently visited this place twice. The first time was for lunch. You seat yourself when you initially walk in. I enjoyed the fresh chips and salsa, which wasn't too spicy. I tried the chile rellenos and it was good and cheesy. I came back later for breakfast and ate the huevos rancheros with french toast. When you enter you see its very quiet with slight Mexican decor. The workers there are very hospitable and welcoming. The money although it has many options the prices are very reasonable considering its location, except for guacamole. That's a 3 dollar upcharge. The food is good as well.
