Margarita on the rocks

Very good Mexican restaurant where I least expected to find one! Friendly staff, generous portions. The chilaquiles were excellent, as was the carnitas quesadilla. And if you like variety, drama, and a huge meal, try the molcajete!

Taquitos
Jessica B.

Well this was an odd experience... I came here for my cousin's birthday as we were staying at an airbnb near by. There was a group of 9 of us. I ordered the taquitos. Everything was dry and bland; rice, chicken, beef, everything. They forgot about my husband's order. They offered to bring him "something else that was ready" instead which leads me to believe they gave him someone's else meal. I'm giving 3 stars because everyone else at our table seemed to enjoy their meals and licked their plates clean. Unfortunately my husband and I had a less-than-stellar experience so can't say I would recommend...

Margarita with some chips and salsa
Scott G.

I think this is the first time I've been back here this year. As with before, the drinks are phenomenal. The bartender is amazing and knows his tequilas and his margaritas like a professional. The chips and salsa are great, which is something I rate all Mexican restaurants on. The food is fantastic and not overpriced like many places in the lake region. While it might look like a hole in the wall. I would encourage anyone traveling to the lakes region to stop here and grab a bite to eat.

Excellent Carnita street tacos

Found after a track meet, would definitely come back again! Great find Good service!

Flan was great

This place has yet to let me down and they carry Jarritos flavors I haven't been able to find at other local Mexican restaurants. Service was great and the nachos didn't disappoint. Everyone seemed to be having a great time while I was there all good vibes.

Good food and drinks. The salsa and queso is very good. Large menu to choose from and haven't had a bad meal here.

I had the carne asada with "two rib eye steaks". Also got a house margarita, only 7.99 was a real bargain, even though it was premixed. It didn't have that sour mix aftertaste that most house margs do. I couldn't request a doneness, because "they are really thin". The 2 steaks were about 1/8 of an inch thick and almost tough enough to repair a shoe. The beans were mostly liquid, there was a very small portion of rice and a surprisingly generous amount of guacamole on the chopped salad greens, 3 warm tortillas. I wrapped the steaks in the tortillas with the guac and greens, and asked for some hot sauce. It was in a ramekin, nothing to write home about. At the end of the night, I got my bill, the first total showed 30.44, the credit card slip showed 32.69. I asked why the discrepancy, she said the first bill didn't reflect the hot sauce, "it's homemade". I have eaten in a LOT of Mexican restaurants, never got an upcharge for hot sauce. Won't be rushing back, had hoped for an upgrade from the previous restaurant there, wishful thinking I guess.

OK, so I'm traveling to New Hampshire and well I said I'm gonna try some Mexican food. I am in…read morenative of Arizona and I'm half Mexican. Now you can't tell by looking at me but born raise form my mom who doesn't speak English so I grew up in Mexican food, authentic Mexican food. So always the test is the beans that's right Mexican know what I'm talking about. A true Mexican restaurant makes good beans. So I ordered my combination. I speak a few Spanish words to the waiter. He kinda looked at me funny. And he asked me about how I knew how to speak Spanish. Well, I told him I was half Mexican. I told him I will be testing the beans that's the true test. Well they passed. The beans were amazing. The chili rellino were amazing. The tamale was great. For all the white people out there this is good Mexican food for all the Mexicans. It's good enough for you to dine. Enjoy.

Full disclosure this is for takeout so maybe it's a better experience inside. Speaking of inside, the ambience of the restaurant was fine. Not too crowded but a handful of patrons. The decor was cute and the music was a nice touch. I ordered a combination plate with a cheese enchilada and a chicken taco with a hard shell. I selected refried beans and Mexican rice as my sides. The sides were tasty. The enchilada was fine but the cheese tasted like American cheese, and the taco was disappointing. I expected a homemade fried hard shell but instead It was something from the grocery store and hardly filled with chicken. A homemade taco shell and more filling would go along way. Plus adding toppings like sour cream and pico-I believe those could be added for an extra cost. My husband ordered the fajita nachos. He said they were good but I was a little thrown off by the American cheese sauce instead of the more traditional melted jack and cheddar cheese for nachos. I really enjoyed their chips and salsa. Check this place out for yourself!

They took our drink orders quickly and brought out the chips and salsa. As always I asked for an extra salsa dish cause I'm super messy. The guy said sure and left but no salsa bowl arrived. The waiter came a minute or two later and so I asked him. He said oh sure and left. He returned quickly and im assuming got distracted because he forgot it too. He said he'd go get it after he put in our order. We ordered and waited and I finally flagged him down again. He did bring a bowl just as they arrived with my husbands food and my side of rice and beans. I guess the cook messed up and so after I finished the beans and rice my tacos arrived. They were very good and he did offer another plate of rice and beans but I told him I wss fine. My only complaint is that I felt they should have taken off a part of the meal or when they offered the beans and rice said it would be no charge. The food was good but the experience was a bit disappointing.

This unassuming restaurant does, however, punch above its weight when it comes to hospitality and reasonably-priced, enjoyable-enough Mexican-American food. They accommodated our enormous group of around 30 adults and children on short notice, and with grace. Food came out relatively quickly, though not surprisingly, given the size of our group, staggered in waves. Thin tortilla chips and a thin, almost tomato-sauce-like salsa were complimentary at the start of the meal. They weren't our cup of tea, but we appreciated this increasingly rare courtesy, and our subsequent side orders of guacamole were excellent. My Camarones al Mojo de Ajo ($21.95) were appropriately garlicky, the small, well-textured shrimp sautéed with plenty of onions and the tiny bits of garlic you typically get from a jar. Although the portion size wasn't quite as generous as those of my convives, the shrimp were imbued with flavor and overall enjoyable. The dish came with orange-tinged rice (a little hard and dry) and a salad of iceberg lettuce, chopped tomatoes, onions, and cilantro, with a bit more of that excellent guacamole tucked underneath. Some of our friends enjoyed enormous servings of chicken and steak fajitas. Others were less impressed by their burritos, which came drizzled with a Velveeta-like cheese sauce. Unfortunately, steak tacos came with flour tortillas -- not our preference -- but they were generously filled with flavorful (if slightly dry) steak. Cocktails were large and reportedly light on alcohol + sugary. Despite the rather dreary strip mall that El Tequila is tucked into, the inside is festive and cheerful, painted with colorful murals. A bar and large screen TVs line one side, making it an easy place to dine alone should you wish to do so. Would we eat here if the restaurant were in NYC? Probably not. But for a family- and group-friendly, casual restaurant in a NH town, population 7,000, we were more than pleased.
