OK, so I'm traveling to New Hampshire and well I said I'm gonna try some Mexican food. I am in native of Arizona and I'm half Mexican. Now you can't tell by looking at me but born raise form my mom who doesn't speak English so I grew up in Mexican food, authentic Mexican food. So always the test is the beans that's right Mexican know what I'm talking about. A true Mexican restaurant makes good beans. So I ordered my combination. I speak a few Spanish words to the waiter. He kinda looked at me funny. And he asked me about how I knew how to speak Spanish. Well, I told him I was half Mexican. I told him I will be testing the beans that's the true test. Well they passed. The beans were amazing. The chili rellino were amazing. The tamale was great. For all the white people out there this is good Mexican food for all the Mexicans. It's good enough for you to dine. My husband and I tried El Viajero on a whim and absolutely loved it! The food was so fresh and tasty, the service was fast and friendly. We really enjoyed the ambiance and Mexican music, and were impressed with the cleanliness. We've since gone several times and have tried several things on the menu. Had the Veggie fajitas.. tasted like frozen asian veg mix. Server never came back with plates so we ate our Fajitas on the plastic wrap.. he finally came back almost half an hour later with napkins & to put in dessert order. We shared the fried icecream.. it tasted unfried icecreamn with to much whip cream. Defintly wasnt made right. This isnt authentic mexican food at all unfortunately & staff wasnt great. read more

Have now gone here 4 times and not one meal has been a disappointment. From flavor and portion size, to being ready quickly and having very friendly people! Inside looks very welcoming and cozy. Super clean! It is hidden off route 3 in Hooksett as it is in a professional center with standard businesses, DayCare and such. I was really looking forward to a yummy authentic Mexican food meal after reading the reviews. But I was pretty disappointed with the food overall. Full disclosure this is for takeout so maybe it's a better experience inside. Speaking of inside, the ambience of the restaurant was fine. Not too crowded but a handful of patrons. The decor was cute and the music was a nice touch. I ordered a combination plate with a cheese enchilada and a chicken taco with a hard shell. I selected refried beans and Mexican rice as my sides. The sides were tasty. The enchilada was fine but the cheese tasted like American cheese, and the taco was disappointing. I expected a homemade fried hard shell but instead It was something from the grocery store and hardly filled with chicken. A homemade taco shell and more filling would go along way. Plus adding toppings like sour cream and pico-I believe those could be added for an extra cost. My husband ordered the fajita nachos. He said they were good but I was a little thrown off by the American cheese sauce instead of the more traditional melted jack and cheddar cheese for nachos. I really enjoyed their chips and salsa. This is a good Mexican restaurant. I really like the food, but my partner was just lukewarm on it. What impressed me was the level of service, and the atmosphere. The atmosphere, screams, Mexico and all the beauty and Grace with it. I loved the Mexican music being piped in, at times though it was a little bit loud. They have lunch specials every day of the week and I really appreciate that. I had the quesadilla and thought it was very good, the partner had a la carte items and thought they were just decent. The real issue is the flavor of the meat - La carne necesita más sabor. Ahora mismo no tiene jugosidad ni condimentos. It seems that the Yelp community in New Hampshire is not large and has issues with photos and posting of menus. I'm here to help as always with both of these shortcomings. read more

I love chilequiles and they are hard to find in restaurants around this area. There is only one other place I have been to that has them, but El Viajero's is superior, far and away. Instead of using regular tortilla chips they have a smaller square sized chip that is exactly the right size and adds excellent texture to the chicken and green sauce, which is amazing. The service is always excellent, and despite it being a very small venue it never feels like you are crowded even when it is busy. I'm very excited to have found it and will continue to pop in every couple weeks to get my chilequile fix. I also really like the table salsa read more

I love this place. It could be the staff that remembers me, or the good food that's priced correctly. Either way, El Viajero is the hidden gem of Mexican food in southern New Hampshire. Whether it's dine-in or take-out, the food comes out piping hot and always good. They have a great variety of drinks and food options! The restaurant is small, but there is never a wait. El Viajero opened at the Granite Hill Shoppes in Hooksett, in the former Bavaria German space, enter restaurant from upper back side of building. El Viajero is currently (2024) the only Mexican restaurant in town. El Viajero offers an extensive menu of traditional and specialty Mexican fare including tacos, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, chilaquiles, steak dishes, chicken, seafood dishes, lunch specials, appetizers, salads, and desserts. The pricing seems fair. They also serve beers, mixed drinks, and margaritas.  I stopped by El Viajero for lunch over the weekend on opening day. They opened just before noon, and the surge of customers coming in began. I was seated at a booth along the wall near the entrance and kitchen. There's also a dining room in the back overlooking Hooksett Rd traffic.  The server took my drink order and another staff member brought out complementary chips and medium salsa. The chips were crunchy, some broken pieces but otherwise good and I was given a refill on chips. For lunch, I went with the Lunch Steak Fajitas ($10.99 plus tax) with warm tortillas, rice, refried beans & cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce, & sour cream. The skillet of grilled seasoned steak, peppers, and onions was a lot of food. The Mexican rice and refried beans & cheese were very soft. The warm flour tortillas were grilled. I finished most of the fajitas with a to go box for the rest.  For dessert, the Fried Ice Cream ($6.99 plus tax) was a scoop of vanilla ice cream coated lightly with corn flakes topped with rainbow sprinkles and chocolate sauce in a fried tortilla shell. There was no whipped cream on this fried ice cream, like I would have expected, but I literally ordered the first dessert. The check was $19.55 with tax and before tip. Overall, El Viajero is a good place to stop for Mexican food, lunch and dinner in a casual setting with Mexican background music playing over the speakers. The service was attentive with at least 3 staff members checking on tables. The hostess also got me a bag for my takeout box. The food portions coming out of the kitchen were big. El Viajero is along my commute, so I will be stopping back for dinner. read more

We are so hoping to find a true authentic Mexican restaurant near us. So when we seen El Viajero on our search we were truly excited to see a restaurant so close with such great reviews. We decided to go for an early lunch. Got there around 11:20. There was no one to great us so after a few minutes of waiting we decided to seat ourselves. As we walked toward the back we noticed a small group sitting in one of the booths. We took a table next to the window that looks out to the front side of the building. The bartender/waiter was busy mixing cocktails for the other patrons. Not a problem for us. We enjoyed the view and waited. The bartender/waiter greeted us after he was done. We ordered and shortly thereafter our lunch arrived. The dishes presented nicely. But, they were at best just warm. The flavor though was good, the service was great and the atmosphere very much reminiscent of our many days south of the border. All in all we will go back and try it again. read more

I went with my wife and two friends. We love Mexican food and I've been going for years to a place on 2nd St., Manchester so we can pay all new places to that. El Viajero was very busy and we had about a half hour wait. The interior was well appointed the staff was very friendly. I ordered a tangerine tonic my friends and wife ordered margaritas we did not care for the drinks. They were not up to our standards. The chips and salsa were delicious. Our meals came out piping hot and were absolutely delicious. One person had a chimichanga one person had a enchilada and my friend and I both had fajitas. They were fantastic. I chose to give them a five because the food in service were five and I figured since they've only been open less than a month. Maybe they have a rookie barkeep we will go back. read more

Me and my family of 3 came to El Valero, on a Saturday for an early dinner. We got seated right away. Ordered our food and it was out within 15 minutes of sitting down!
