Stopped for just a drink at the bar - and pretty cool looking spot. Didn't have food - but the mezcalrita was good. Service was good

This is a good Mexican restaurant. I really like the food, but my partner was just lukewarm on it. What impressed me was the level of service, and the atmosphere. The atmosphere, screams, Mexico and all the beauty and Grace with it. I loved the Mexican music being piped in, at times though it was a little bit loud. They have lunch specials every day of the week and I really appreciate that. I had the quesadilla and thought it was very good, the partner had a la carte items and thought they were just decent. The real issue is the flavor of the meat - La carne necesita más sabor. Ahora mismo no tiene jugosidad ni condimentos. It seems that the Yelp community in New Hampshire is not large and has issues with photos and posting of menus. I'm here to help as always with both of these shortcomings.

EL VIAJERO - HOOKSETT, NH This listing name should not be automatically translated to "The Traveler" (AI likely?) El Viajero opened at the Granite Hill Shoppes in Hooksett, in the former Bavaria German space, enter restaurant from upper back side of building. El Viajero is currently (2024) the only Mexican restaurant in town. El Viajero offers an extensive menu of traditional and specialty Mexican fare including tacos, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, chilaquiles, steak dishes, chicken, seafood dishes, lunch specials, appetizers, salads, and desserts. The pricing seems fair. They also serve beers, mixed drinks, and margaritas.  I stopped by El Viajero for lunch over the weekend on opening day. They opened just before noon, and the surge of customers coming in began. I was seated at a booth along the wall near the entrance and kitchen. There's also a dining room in the back overlooking Hooksett Rd traffic.  The server took my drink order and another staff member brought out complementary chips and medium salsa. The chips were crunchy, some broken pieces but otherwise good and I was given a refill on chips. For lunch, I went with the Lunch Steak Fajitas ($10.99 plus tax) with warm tortillas, rice, refried beans & cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce, & sour cream. The skillet of grilled seasoned steak, peppers, and onions was a lot of food. The Mexican rice and refried beans & cheese were very soft. The warm flour tortillas were grilled. I finished most of the fajitas with a to go box for the rest.  For dessert, the Fried Ice Cream ($6.99 plus tax) was a scoop of vanilla ice cream coated lightly with corn flakes topped with rainbow sprinkles and chocolate sauce in a fried tortilla shell. There was no whipped cream on this fried ice cream, like I would have expected, but I literally ordered the first dessert. The check was $19.55 with tax and before tip. Overall, El Viajero is a good place to stop for Mexican food, lunch and dinner in a casual setting with Mexican background music playing over the speakers. The service was attentive with at least 3 staff members checking on tables. The hostess also got me a bag for my takeout box. The food portions coming out of the kitchen were big. El Viajero is along my commute, so I will be stopping back for dinner.

Great local Mexican restaurant. Good food and drinks, friendly staff. Bonus-if you like ceviche, this is the place; it was super fresh, full of shrimp and absolutely delicious, plus it's served in a cute piggy!

Fantastic ambiance and authentic Mexican cuisine. Highly recommended. Fajitas are very good as is the service.

Food and service are outstanding. A top pick for our weekly dining out! Tucked away in the back of the shoppes and definitely worth the trip.

My chipotle burrito with chunks of grilled pork was delicious! Slightly spicy chipotle sauce on top.

Absolutely disgusting, I ordered a shrimp quesadilla and it was so salty I couldn't eat it. The rice was mushy. Overall- just don't bother.

It's located in a little business section off the main road. We were at the eye place and decided to go there for dinner. BOY AM I GLAD WE DID! We got the chicken sliders to start - omg. Heaven. Lightly fried tenders on small brioche buns with perfect toppings. There were 3 of them standing tall on the tray, hot and delicious. We got an order of the mac n cheese to share - again, pure perfection. Homemade with the right hints of smoked Gouda, cream and topped with crumbs. I got the bourbon steak tips with mashed and asparagus done medium. If I could go back every week I would. The only down side is this place is in NH and we live in RI. That and the seats aren't comfortable at all. That's my only con. Food wise there are none. Zip. Zilch. The staff was nice and attentive without being overly so. Oh oh wait. Ok one other con. They don't have Bloody Marys. That's ok. I was more than happy to swan dive into the mac n cheese to chase my blues away. Go here. Eat everything. And enjoy! You won't be disappointed. Cheers!!

The drinks were good, but a little light on the pour considering the prices. Overall, it was a good experience, but we were somewhat disappointed when we got our bill. Everything was marked up by 3% if we used a credit card. Supposedly, this is in small print on the menu, but we failed to notice. I can't think of another restaurant that does this in the area and we go out to eat 4-5 times a week. It felt deceptive and like we got nickel and dimed after spending around $100. I won't say we won't be back, but didn't appreciate this tactic at all.

We started with some cocktails and the cheese curds, for Andres we had the Smashburger and an order of duck tacos. We do come toting along with a six-year-old so with a lack of a kids menu or a simpler eats, we went with the cheese flatbread (note to anybody reading it comes without sauce. It is literally cheese on a flatbread). We can't fall places for not being kid friendly, but it would've been awesome to have even just a grilled cheese option, but that's our problem for another day. Sadly, it will limit when we can plan our future visit visits. The service was great, friendly and attentive, in the ambience, cozy and warm. I travel quite a bit and my husband did deem this a place that "I could come and sit at the bar when I'm by myself " So personally, the only thing I would say is they could use a few more smaller plates that could thicken as child, friendly entrées... or just add a tad bit more options into the mix.

These were served with a pea and bacon risotto whose rich flavors matched the meatballs perfectly and the accompanying crisped breads balanced texture for the perfect combo. The pork belly tostadas had a great combination of toppings that gave them a fresh feel and almost made pork belly feel healthy, and the popover short rib dish was perfectly cooked and tasty. This one wasn't my dish, but I managed to snag a nibble and may be ordering it next time if they decide to add it to the regular menu. So good! The dishes were a nice size, leaving room for desert, and the fresh fruit meringue was an excellent finale. The restaurant itself is small, with a bar and just a handful of indoor tables. They had 4 more tables outside, however, which would be great on slightly cooler days. The indoor window seat we got was comfortable and the whole place had a cozy, friendly feel. Service was top notch, from a greeting as we entered to constant attention - we never really noticed our slightly small (bar style) table as all the dishes were cleared so quickly. The spicy ramen was okay, I love spice but this one was a bit starchy as if too much starch was used to thicken the broth. The noodles were also way too soft; and there's very little protein. The mussels were good but once you reach the bottom of the bowl it was salty. The flavor of the wings were good but also salty. The ramen was also extremely salty as well so it seems like everything they make here is just overall on the salty side. If they just lessened every dish on that part, it would be perfect. But especially the ramen was very hard to eat without drinking 5 cups of water. The shirley temple was delicious tho! Food is 3/5 but service is a 5/5. So I will say the service definitely saved the rating from 3 stars.
