By far the best Mexican food I have had in NH... but also better than most places in MA.

Maaz's Chicken - Mix over rice with white sauce

Maaz's Chicken serves up fried chicken, sandwiches, gyros, burgers, rice platters, fried seafood, appetizers, salads, desserts, and cooler drinks (Pepsi products/Gatorade). The prices here seem reasonable. I stopped by Maaz's Chicken for lunch and dinner on Grand Opening Day when they were giving out free lunch (selected items) and 50 percent off the menu all day. The place was very busy with a line out the door. The owner had a DJ playing music near the entrance and chatting with customers. The owner is from Rhode Island and actually works across the border in Mass. The owner was looking for a place to open a chicken restaurant and chose Franklin, NH since it's a good area, bypassing Franklin, MA (for now) much closer to Bellingham, MA and Rhode Island. The lunch line was very busy and I eventually got up to the counter and ordered the Chicken Sandwich and 2 pc Fried Chicken with Fries and can of Diet Pepsi and strawberry Hood Ice Cream for dessert, all complementary for lunch. The chicken sandwich was big with a thick breaded buffalo tender with lettuce & mayo, pretty good. The shoestring fries were decent and the fried chicken had a nice crispy salty coating on the outside. I decided I would return later for dinner takeout. I returned for dinner takeout several hours later and the place was getting slammed with the line almost to the door. I ordered a bunch of food including a Beef Gyro ($8.99 plus tax), 6 Mozzarella Sticks ($6.25 plus tax), Chicken Over Rice Platter ($10.99 plus tax) and a 2 Pc Tilapia with Fries & Slaw ($11.99 plus tax). With the Grand Opening Discount, my total with tax was $20.83. After ordering, there was another line of customers waiting to pick up their food after paying. I waited about 16 minutes for my big order to be all set. They did run out of cole slaw and let me substitute Banana Pudding which is normally the same price as cole slaw ($2.99 plus tax). I checked my order before leaving and everything was there. I enjoyed my big dinner back at the office and the portions of food were generous. The Chicken Over Rice Platter was excellent, which had firm seasoned rice topped with marinated hot chicken pieces, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, white sauce. The Beef Gyro was overflowing with beef gyro meat, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and a house dressing in a soft warm thick wrap. The Mozzarella Sticks were standard and came with marinara dipping sauce. The 2 Pc Tilapia with Fries was comprised of 2 good size fried tilapia filets with a seasoned breading and a pile of shoestring fries, tartar sauce was provided too. The Banana Pudding was sweet and topped with Nilla Wafer cookies. Overall, I was able to try a variety of foods here at Maaz's Chicken including the grand opening lunch and discounted dinner food. The fried chicken though crispy outside was very salty and dry, probably due to the volume of customers ordering the same thing. The fries at lunch time were not very hot (staff trying to serve the masses at lunch) and the fries I got with my tilapia dinner were hot and firm. The Chicken Over Rice Platter and Beef Gyro were excellent and my favorites of the day. This rating is based on the dinner takeout (4.5/5.0) and not on the grand opening lunch.

Their other location is on NH 13 in Brookline and they have nearby sister restaurants, The Dox Winnipesaukee and The Dox Winnisquam. The space offers a full service bar area with seating and table seating in the indoor dining room. There is also outdoor patio seating. The menu offerings are primarily BBQ fare including meat platters, sides, mac & cheese, sandwiches, spuds, salads, chili, donuts, and kids meals. The bar offers draft & bottled beers, wine, spirits snd cocktails. The pricing is moderate high. I've stopped at their Brookline location a few years ago and decided to try out the new location while we spent the day in the Lakes Region. The place was moderately busy on a Monday evening and we were seated in the dining room and given menus and ice waters. We placed our food order and the food arrived 20 minutes later. There were four BBQ sauces at the table including House, Carolina, St. Louis, & Ghost Pepper. The Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16 plus tax) had tender soft pork in a sweet bbq topped with cole slaw on a soft bun, served with two pieces of sweet cornbread. The Burnt Ends Mac & Cheese ($23 plus tax) was a generous portion of dense cheesy cavatappi pasta topped with tender sweet bbq burnt ends (some fat & some lean pieces). The food was pretty good, but we needed boxes for the leftovers. The check with Toast QR code was presented which was $42.32 with tax and before tip. Overall, a pretty good meal in a very noisy restaurant and friendly service. I will mention the mac & cheese on this visit was much better and more flavorful than the mac & cheese I had 4 years ago in Brookline. Also, they also have on-site free parking for Alamo customers.

We were greeted and told to sit anywhere we wanted. Ambiance: It's a smaller, fairly echoey restaurant, but it's a pizza joint... it's kind of to be expected. After a few, our waitress came and I ordered waters. For some reason our table was missing the drink menu... all others had one. It took a few minutes for our waitress to find one for us. I ordered the Galaxy Lemonade, Jennie chose the Bahama Mama. We were both very disappointed in our drinks. Minute clearly had the Blue Curaçao in it, but there wasn't even the tiniest hint of the Empress Gin... a gin with a very distinctive flavor. It was so lacking that I actually asked our waitress if it was forgotten. I think the drink should've been great, but the curaçao was overpowering the gin. There was 1oz of each liquor. I think 3/4oz BC and 1.25oz Empress might've made it better. While Jennie prefers sweeter drinks, the BM was VERY sweet-forward, lacking flavor from either rum. We are all about the "well-balanced beverage"... neither of these were. Our appetizer (5 Buffalo wings) & pizza arrived at the same time. I thought the wings were great. The heat/flavor ratio was damn-near perfect. Jennie felt they had a bit too much heat... I disagree :) Our thin-crust pizza was also great. Toppings: garlic, tomato, banana peppers, & pepperoni. I feel there should've been much more garlic on it, as it was ordered as a topping, but overall, the crust had a perfect crispness all the way under, so it could be picked up by the edge. We both enjoyed it! The food is worth picking up, but if I'm going to sit in a restaurant for food and drink, I'd like to enjoy the drink. For that reason, we probably won't be back.
