Things have gone from bad to worse. Last time we entered Phat Fish we found many tables uncleaned and the restaurant generally a mess. We chalked it up to perhaps a very busy lunch run even though it was only 12:40. Given the condition of the place we left. Today we decided to give them a second chance. Unfortunately, it was pretty much the same story. Many tables uncleaned and the place generally a mess. We did sit down, however, and looked at the menu. When I laid my hand on the table, it came away sticky. Checked the rest of the table and about of it was a sticky mess. You expect us to eat on that surface? Once again, we left. Phat fish has now rebranded to phat boyz sports bar. They have gone from being good atmosphere and good priced menu to just another (in a small town) loud sports bar with way overpriced burgers. $18 for a burger in a college town is quite steep. We come from Meredith, where those prices are expected to eat in Plymouth as food is more affordable. The restaurant has also taken up half its tables with a second bar, in an already narrow and small room. We may be back in the summer when outside seating is back, but winter time the acoustics are way too overstimulating with its tall ceilings and narrow layout. read more

This place reminds me of a BBQ place with a large bar. They have a ton of beach related things on the walls, which I loved. It is not a "fancy" place but it does have a decent menu and cocktails. They have a large garage like window in the front that looks like it can open when the weather is nice. There is no official parking lot but a half a block down there is metered parking, which looks like the town center. We were sat right away but service was on the slower side, not sure if thats just the busy city girl in me. We ordered jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks for appetizers. I think these were the best poppers I had ever had & the mozzarella sticks were just as good. For my meal I ordered the grilled shrimp tacos, it comes with two and for $1.00 more you can add a third. Honestly three was too much with the appetizer. You can add guac and sour cream for additional charges. I liked the shrimp and all the fixings, however I did not care for the corn tortillas they were wrapped in, and opted to just eat the shrimp. Aiyanna provided some of the best service especially given the unbearable working conditions. Although the front wall is completely open there is no air movement and it was stifling inside on this 90 degree day. Ceiling fans area must and a cheap enough investment for comfort of the guests and your staff. Back to Aiyanna - she just turned 18 the week before so she was unfamiliar with the beer selection and table service (she did take-out for 2 years though). She readily admitted her lack of knowledge but would get the information. She did and returned promptly even though there were only 2 servers for whole place (my guess is that other staff called out on this high heat day). When asked if the salmon was farm-raised she again checked with kitchen before telling us that everything was wild caught. Instead of being embarrassed about her lack of knowledge or giving a wrong answer, she looked upon this as an opportunity to learn more about the business. Heading to our vacation spot for Christmas and found this place in town for lunch. Honestly the burgers sign caught my eye. Small place but very clean. Bartender was great and even gave me a quarter for the meter. I ordered the pastrami sandwich which was nice and hot on a soft bulky roll, plenty of meat and cheese. You can get rye if you want. The fries honestly are those really cheap generic non fries. Surprised because they have so much fish on the menu. My wife ordered the chicken parm sub with chips which was also wicked good. Overall this was a horrible experience and I would not recommend anyone to dine there. Service: HORRIBLE! She was a tall, thin young girl. Arrived on a Wednesday @7:55pm during covid (so social distance tables and cleaning menus more often). As someone who travels, has been to Restaurants of all prices and who has family members in the service industry I know what is expected of service staff, managers, and I am very understanding with both the COVID restrictions and under staffed restaurants. This was NOT the case. We sat at 7:55 pm. We viewed the menu, closed them at 8:10 to prompt service (checked my watch as it seemed like it had been a while), looked around, watched a table sat to the right of us at 8:20 and then asked the hostess to remind our server. At that moment a bowl broke that took our host attention. While our server who has passed us server times with not even a hello, greeted the new table and took the order. The host as she picked up broken bowl let us know that was our server and would be right there. But we chose to get up and leave. It was clear to us the servers (two young girls who passed us several times and greeted other tables but never us) were not going to provide us with good or even basic service. As we left the host was apologetic but it was NEVER her job to remind two servers who passed us with no drinks and closed menus for 20 minutes to do THEIR job. I decided to speak to a manager (but I don't believe it was a general manager so we will call to discuss this further). Host: BEST ever! She was a friendly girl who greeted us, sat us quickly. And when we asked her to remind our server we have been waiting for twenty minutes she was more than happy to. On her way to remind our server a customer dropped a bowl and she was helping them when we saw our "server" greet a table who had been seated 30 seconds prior. So we opted to leave (but not before talking to a manager on duty) Manager: a young blonde girl came to speak to us. We told her our story. She was semi apologizing with many excuses. "We're short staffed". And offered to serve us (but REALY after that who wants to eat there? Not me! I will NOT give them my money and neither should you). But being short staffed means you are half attentive to everyone. You're full! You're busy and running around. This was an experience where the server was very attentive to all her tables EXCEPT our table. Never ate the food. Can't spend money if I can't get a person to take my order. Delicious! We stopped at Phat Fish for a late lunch on our way to Lincoln, NH and really enjoyed our meal. The menu is fairly large, with a great mix of chicken, burgers, and seafood. My husband had Blackened Salmon and steamed broccoli, which he repeatedly said was fantastic. My Jalapeno Burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had--simple, but fresh and delicious. We will definitely stop again next time we're near Plymouth. The restaurant is easy to find, metered parking is available on the street right outside ($.05 for 12 minutes or $.25 for an hour), and the restaurant was comfortable. The building is old and the restaurant has been carved out of a larger space, making it a bit unusual/awkward inside, but we found it interesting. There's a full bar in the back and they have craft beers on the menu. In the women's bathroom there was a skylight with a view a beautiful atrium-style glass ceiling, which was an unexpected surprise. I couldn't tell you the name of our server because she never even introduced herself and just stood there to take out order. I don't typically complain. I've written one negative review before this in my life. I waited 2 hours for a sandwich at noon on a Wednesday. Once 2 hours was up and I had asked when our food should be out for a second time, I asked for the check. Poor kid behind the bar just started working there and management allowed him to take heat the whole time I was there, managing the entire inside of the restaurant. This is a reflection on the people that manage and own the place, not the people listening to my complaints and concerns. The cook was in the back screaming at everyone to stop sitting people. The sandwich that took 2 hours and 20 minutes to come out was probably a 5 out of 10. Management, don't bother with the response that says "sorry about your experience, please try us again".
