Wow, what a delight to find an open seat here! (Then again, it was at the height of the lunchtime crush.)
This place only been open about 5 weeks, although the owners have more than 15 years in the business. They just decided they wanted to do it their own way... and El Fullero was born!
The establishment is clean and wonderfully accented, and certainly not kitschy. Clean lines, a wonderful ambiance (although a bit on the loud side, not unusual for Spain). The menu differs from what you might find anywhere else in town, in that they have remarkable dishes that these guys know how to make RIGHT.
We started with an order of Croquetas (the tapas order, came with four croquetes). I had asked our waiter what type of croquets they were - he simply replied (in VERY good English, I might add), "Try them. If you don't like them, don't pay for them." Well... they were creamy on the inside. Was that a taste of Iberian ham? Carrot? Chicken? Peas?" Whatever... delicious! And the outside was cooked to crispy perfection. Among the best I've ever tasted! (Sorry, abuela!)
My wife's Ensalada de Espinaca con Salmón (spinach salad with salmon) came with the tastiest, thinly-sliced smoked salmon on a bed of VERY FRESH spinach (from the open-air market across the street), and was garnished with pomegranate seeds - the perfect blend of savory and sweetness, over wonderfully tasty greens - delicious!
My own Revueltos Ortiguillas was absolutely amazing. A scrambled egg concoction was the binder for langostinos and clams. Ohmygoodnessitwasoverthetopgood! Yow. Sorry, but it was THAT good. I would gladly order the same the next time we visit.
My darling wife and I had to come to terms over dessert, though. We were pretty well nearly replete, and the desserts were generously-sized... each with a very artistic presentation. (Be sure to look at the homemade tiramisu - it is a work of art!) We opted for the Crema de Mango (thanks, my darling, for going with my choice). In a different world, this could be called a "Bowl of Bliss." Whatever. It was excellent. Creamy, mango-y goodness with a sprinkling of chocolate chips. Nuff said. Bring on the espresso!
About the bar situation - they have all manner of spirits, although (I guess because they've not been open that long?) they only have several bottles of each spirit - at least on display. I expect over time they will increase the selection of vodkas and tequilas that they have on hand.
Overall, this was a delightful surprise, and I enthusiastically recommend a visit here. Buen provecho! read more
