On November 3rd at the Irving location I spent $35 ordering online 2 beef enchilada plates with two crispy beef tacos, an ala carte crispy beef taco and a Taco Platter all beef. What I got in my order was two enchilada plates and a bunch of taco shells. NO MEAT. None at all. I kept calling and calling as I drove all the way back and no one answered the phone. When I get there they were closed. They had on their door that they closed One hour earlier than the time listed on their website. I am highly disappointed. So I paid for tacos that were empty shells and spent gas and time going there twice. Very upset and now have to find something else to feed the rest of my family. This is the third time my order has been wrong. I cannot understand what the issue is. How do you put a bunch of taco shells in a bag and have no meat??!! Check 111 6:49pm Store 16 read more

Pick up food yesterday and guess what, with guacamole and the tortilla chips were completely crushed. Picture attached!! I think the chef took extra care in picking up all of the last pieces from the bottom and shoved it into my bag. Taste of food .... mediocre. Go to Taco Dinner instead. read more

El Fenix - Mexican Near Me - Irving, Texas

Service was slow. It took awhile to get our drink orders in. Once we got our drinks we then put our order in. Food took about 15ish mins to get to our table. During that time a cockroach made an appearance in the middle of the restaurant. All the servers seems to turn their eyes to it. It took 3 of us to point out the huge bug. Once the server finally saw it all he did was squish it then left it on the floor right next to me. While I was eating all I watch was this massive bug getting kicked back and forth. I wish the server would have picked up the cockroach from the ground so I did t have to see it while I was eating. ( I understand bugs happen, but to be sitting in a dining room and hear the bug get smashed then never getting picked up. I wasn't hungry any more) read more

The service was non existent. Margaritas tasted like a powdered mix. Gross beyond belief. Asked to trade for beers and manager came over and wanted to know if we wanted to keep them to---not yuk. Asked for water twice , had to ask for silverware. Ran out of chips and no sign of a waiter. Wouldn't recommend. I won't be back. Went cause we haven't ate there in years, now I remember why. read more

We ate here after work I hadn't ate all day so I was starving the wait wasn't that long to be seated and the food came out quickly and a plus it was hot . With that being said the food wasn't authentic the usual Tex Mex kind of bland not the best stale chips the salsa was spicy I give them that read more

They were out of salsa at noon today? As a result they serve us salsa from a jar they sell at the counter. Ugh!! I can get that from Kroger. Waiter said the salsa guy was late to work. Rest of the food was ok. read more

This place has turned into a dump. The women's bathroom is filthy and falling apart. The hostess when I asked where she sat my party acted like she couldn't understand me and pointed into the opposite direction of where they were seated. The cheese enchiladas were not how they used o be - hardly any cheese and no onions. Just really really bad overall experience. read more

Very impressive! As we walked in the 1st thing we noticed is the clean and neat environment. The music is just right, and the atmosphere is peaceful. The hostess was very nice as well as the waiters, we were attended right away by Mr. RAY MUCHAS GRACIAS :) read more

My family went to El Fenix on Mothers Day, the food and the service was truly great! I was amazed at the waiter who took our orders without writing anything down. He memorized the orders and when we got our food everything was 100% right. The food was delicious and very hot. I could not believe how fast the order was ready, I am sure our order was at the table in under 10 minutes and we had a party of five. read more

I had a graduation dinner there and there was one server for over 40 people. When we mentioned to the waiter about getting help, he pointed in my grandmas face and told her to sit down. I had a few people in my party that left because of the attitude of the waiter. My son, who is two, was sitting on the floor playing with his cars and he rolled his eyes at him. We never got a refill of chips or drinks until the very end when we were already done with the food. We never even received menus until an hour and a half into the party. I would not recommend having a party or any type of gathering here. The food was great, but the service was horrible. read more

Not too impressed with the food here at all, the beans are all cooked in pork fat (HUGE TURNOFF) and the "brisket" tastes more like pot roast... the drinks were ok but to be honest it's kind of hard to mess up a margarita. I probably won't be back, I'll go to OTB if I want commercial Tex Mex... read more

Decent food and decent service. Chips and salsa were delicious but the waiter didn't even know the menu when we tried to order. We ordered off the lunch special meal which had good prices. We also ordered the appetizer combo with queso and guacamole. The queso was so gross it tasted like it was out of a can or something. This isn't authentic Mexican food it tasted store bought. Would only come back because this is one of the few restaurants in the area. Also it was weird that the hostess asked of us if we wanted our change when we paid the bill. Weird. read more

I dread coming here, they are rude never get the order right. I called in a order went to pick it up and they tell me no one called the order in. I showed my phone where I called and they still wanted to argue with me. The reason is they thought it was a prank call. My gosh, then the girl was to busy putting chips in her mouth to listen. Do yourself a favour and stay away from this nightmare they call el Fenix. They will ruin your day and meal. Never again will I step a foot in el Fenix Warning be prepared to get in a bad mood after you deal with these people. Don't risk it. read more

Every time I vist any el Fenix the food is always great! Way to go!

Good Mexican food and great lunch specials.

Extremely disappointed! Dirty! Food was horrible. Restrooms are disqusting! AVOID this place!!!!

First of All I just want to state that I'am in customer service industry and I know how to give the upmost customer service no matter if they are poor or not . I have no idea why people wrote positive things about this place. To start off when we walked up to the front , the customer service was not there it was awkward and not friendly they just looked at us like they didn't want to be there and I was thinking to myself okay let's give them another chance to redeem themselves. The waiter was passive aggressive she looked like she hated her job. The chips and Guac was okay. And I orders a salad that stated on the menu it was mixed green which was not at all it look like cheap iceberg lettuce that was not fresh !!!!! Eww Gross!! The chicken was overly salted so pretty much I felt like I was eating salt . My daughters mac&cheese was pre packaged and not warm it was flavorless my daughter did not touch it . Rice and beans looked like a day old and it's been setting in a heated stove. Crunchy rice?? This place is trash they are prob in debt and they buy cheap produce and product . I'm sorry I may see harsh but correction is good if you want a business to succeed . I wasted 40 there for nothing . I hope you take this as constructive criticism. read more

El Fenix - Cheap nasty and disgusting produce and product . Horrible !!! I hope they get a inspection soon and check out that dirty place! - Mexican Near Me - Irving, Texas

Tacos were way too greasy and the meat looked really cheap (like I saw something weird in my meat). There was a bug in the restroom that looked like it could maybe be a small roach. Yuck. My meal was too expensive for what it was, I ordered some platter that said it was two beef tacos and an avocado tostada for $8.99 and I just assumed it came with beans and rice and it didn't. read more

The staff was super friendly and margaritas were good, but since this is a restaurant, I have to recommend you stay away. My dining companion rather accurately stated that the cheese dip tasted like unsalted butter. Our chips were all crumbles like in the bottom of the bag...even when we requested a replacement basket. My soup was cold and over-salted. Tex-Mex gone wrong, indeed. read more

Had been years since I had El Fenix. Wasn't at all what it was before. Bland food and a huge disappointment. Food is cheep, but you'll get what you pay for. read more

My favorite is the sour cream enchiladas. Service is good. Friendly wait staff. I am a regular here.

Meh. That's about how I would describe this experience. Some coworkers and I didn't know where to go for dinner and this place looked cool, so we ventured in. Once seated we received some warm chips (+1) and some not some salsa I can only guess wasn't made in house. I went with the chicken street tacos which included 3 small street tacos which lacked much flavor. They were served with some sort of sauce that didn't help out in the flavor department, so I substituted the spicy salsa mentioned above. The interior was cute and the atmosphere was nice. Service was attentive but you do have to pay for your food at a register near the entrance which is... Different. Overall it was an alright experience but I'm not sure El Fenix is on the top of my list for my next trip to the metroplex! read more

best mexican food i miss it because i live in colorado , the chips are the best n my friend from work loves them too wish yall can move up here for the texas people read more

Cheap, fast Mexican food. Can't complain, especially when it's Wednesday and you order the enchilada platter for $4.99. Aside from a chandelier nearly impaling and killing a guest here a year ago during lunch service while I was on the second floor (code enforcement has been by since then; it won't happen again), this is a great place! The waiters are attentive. Good lunch place. Not a bad, cheap dinner place. read more

El Fenix is a staple of Dallas/Fort Worth. There is nothing fantastic about and nothing that really sets it apart from any other Tex-Mex restaurant in the Metroplex. However, it Is decent food and average service. One they have going for them is their tortilla chips. They may have some of the best chips that I've had! read more

Not impressed , only thing good was the beer. Even with that I had to ask for a lime. Who brings a Mexican beer with no lime. Chips were store bought with store bought salsa. They over cooked the meat Won't be back and I suggest keep going don't wast your time and money here read more

Clean, bright airy dining room lends to an authentic court yard decor... Food is served hot, tastes fresh and delicious. Promptly served by friendly knowledgeable staff. The chips and salsa were crisp and tasty, not too spicy, but not tomato bland or watery either. I had shrimp tacos with black beans and fried rice. the shrimp were cooked correctly, the taco shells were soft and hot, the filling of Spanish slaw enhanced the flavor and balanced the dish perfectly, everyone around me is definitely enjoying their food. The only negative I see is the seating put me close to the open kitchen portal, which detracted from the music with the hustle and noises from a busy kitchen. Overall Great experience. Try it. read more

El Fenix - Shrimp tacos, combo plate... - Mexican Near Me - Irving, Texas

We love the el Fenix brand but this was not a good experience. We ordered one entree and the people who arrived 15 min after us got their food 10 min before we did. We only saw the server maybe 3 times the entire time we were there and our table just got cluttered with empty drinks and empty chip bowls. It took too long and when we Asked for a Togo box the waiter started picking up the plates with food we were trying to pack. Not sure if this was her first day on the job but it was not great. read more

Probably the best atmosphere and location for a nice quite Wednesday lunch I've ever visited. Great Wednesday $5.99 enchilada plate special. Loved the culture, atmosphere, food and wait staff. The tortilla chips and food was delish! I'll be back! read more

El Fénix is a tradition in our office. Everytime we come here we feel like home. Our guy Ray knows our order by heart and Griss knows the perfect combination in our drinks (soda water-lemonade, Arnold Palmer with unsweetened tea)!!! Good to have them close to the office and also with great food! My favorite items are: Mixed fajitas, street tacos and of course the enchiladas! If you are close to DFW airport, be sure that it's a great place! read more

Food was horrible, I had the nachos it was like chewing on an old tire

Im solely reviewing on comparison to other Mexican restaurants. Food was good, cute interior, good service but i personally recommend souther recipes in Irving, way better flavor and better sauce and chips read more

Just driving through on my way to my hotel. I'm in the Dallas area and love Tex-Mex. I saw the sign and thought "El Fenix this is gonna be awesome!" Anyway, no hostess was around to be seated and the cashier was in no hurry to help. No big deal but this was an omen. Fernando, my waiter was very friendly and prompt. The chips were average and I thought the salsa tasted worse than Pace store bought. I ordered a chicken chimichanga with the tomatillo sauce option. The food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time and it was warm on a hot plate - which maybe explains the wilted greens beneath the guacamole. So, I will describe the following: - Shredded Chicken = salty - Chimi tortilla = not crispy at all, felt like it was soggy - rice/cheese = not to bad but still salty - guac & sour cream = average with wilted green garnishing All in all = disappointing Pro's: nice waiters, very clean, comfortable atmosphere, & location Cons: bad food, the chips & salsa are a bad start, lack of hostess, & use of cashier to check out This place could be absolutely awesome under the right management but I can't recommend it to anyone at this point. read more

Just got the Texas style nachos for $10. Really pitiful amount for that price. Should have gone to Mattito's instead.

Been here multiple times. The first time the wait staff was very slow. It took forever to get food. The second time I ate here I got food poisoning after eating the soggy and greasy beef/pork Chile Relleno. They got my grandmother's food order wrong. Women's restroom was dirty and smelled foul. Men's room had vomit all over it. Do not recommend this restaurant. read more

The waiter was very slow getting to us and at the time we sat down there were hardly any customers. Again the staff was mostly standing around instead of making sure their customers were taken care of. We called the front desk twice and was told later the manager was supposed to come find us but we never saw the manager until we went to pay for the meal and then it was upon request. We also noticed the phones were off the hooks. The meals were the only thing correct which was very surprising. I will never return. read more
