El Chipotle is one of the best places to eat in Humboldt! My partner and I come here every Saturday after the gym for lunch and we always get a bowl of menudo and corn tortillas. We sometimes share a California burrito or an order of the amazing carnitas street tacos, but this last time, we got two bowls of beautiful, freshly-made menudo. The broth was spicy and flavorful, the tripas was super soft. Even the two baskets of warm tortilla chips and salsas made us smile. The staff are always attentive and kind and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Our first visit here! Per prior reviews we went with the Fried Tilapia (so hot, so fresh, so good - don't skip if you are interested) and the mole (wonderful flavor of the sauce, but I was expecting moist drumsticks only because that's what I saw on the single Yelp photo of it). Hot fresh tortillas were good, both corn and flour! Cocktails were LEGIT on point! For real, 5 stars for drinks alone! Not too sweet, just right! The icing on the cake was authentic conversation vibes from our Sunday night server, Omar! He was so kind and attentive, he really gave us a warm welcome even though we were the last customers and only visiting the area. We really appreciated how down to earth and real he was - complete opposite of the lame servers elsewhere who suddenly try and act randomly interested when they are bringing the bill to your table. I ordered takeout so can't say much about eating in the restaurant itself. The food I ordered was good. I will come again.

We used the Yelp app to find this restaurant on our trip. So glad we did. It is festively decorated. The food is tasty. We liked it so much that we had dinner here again, several days later. Our first visit the service was slow, but we could see that they were short-staffed and very busy. The second visit our waitress, Nikki, was friendly, attentive, and efficient. We had a large group, and sampled many different dishes. We were very satisfied with our food. My football-player son ordered the giant "Father burrito" with Chipotle sauce. He had to finish the rest for breakfast the next day. Their salsas are delicious and restaurant-made chips are great. We will return when we are in the area again. read more

Wow. Absoultey the best authentic Mexican food I've ran into. Period. Every single visit the food quality was consitent! First off, I'm picky.. the staff was more than friendly, they were familiar. They accommodated my vegan diet. I've now had my #1 favorite Spinach Enchiladads with green sauce, the Chipotle Potato tacos which are so bomb I got full with 4 good sized ones, the bean burrito with veggies, simple but delicious, and the guacamole and the salsa deserve an honorable mention! They are so tasty. The salsa is the best I've tasted no kidding. Try it yourself! Everything is made with Love and it shows. Terrible. First off, it smells like someone's been emptying bongs on the ground and smoking out all day everyday. I get that it's Arcata but it's a heavy weed smell. Run don't walk to El Chipotle! Good thing I don't live close bye becauseI I could easily gain 10lbs if I did! Super friendly and attentive staff and well made drinks ! Not an agave margarita - as shown on online menu but -but full bar in place and huge collection of tequilas! Starting with chips and salsa - chips were think and crunchy not greasy at all- two salsas were brought - one was medium spicy and easy to chow down on - the other super spicy and killer ! I could not help but to revisit them over and over! The food was epic ! We had camerones a diabla - and the shrimp were plump fresh and juicy. The Diabla sauce was amazing fresh and well made with spicy tomato diabla sauce! Rice was fluffy and fresh and refried beans were smoky and rich with nice depth and complexity . I know I know flour tortillas are boring and gringo but damn - these were killer ! Not too doughy and thin with nice balance of lard but a perfect vessel for all bites of well made yummy food ! We loved the corn tortillas too -not too thick and We also got carne asada plate and ate every bite -even tough we were full 3/4'sof the way in ! We so wanted to try a dessert but we had no space in her belly's but they are fried ice cream from tres leches looks amazing!! The kitchen staff is talented and you can tell with every bite they care. Honestly - I felt I was in Mexico - This is one of the best home cooked Mexican restaurants I have been to in years ! Just came back from El Chipotle. No it's not your Chipotle chair brand. Definitely authentic Mexican food. Being Mexican we were hesitant to try it but soooo glad we did. We had the Molcajete and everything tasted so good from the beans and Mexican rice to the salsa. Kids also enjoyed their burritos. Service was exceptional!!! I wish I had taken a photo of my carnitas plate from El Chipotle. But that would have meant having the will power to stop eating once I started. These carnitas were incredible. Flavorful, a little crispy, tender, juicy, like actually ~perfect~. Everything on the plate was wonderful and by the time I had chance to become aware of the world again after this blissful food induced day dream I had eaten everything. Chili Colorado had good flavor, but I was definitely expecting a larger portion than the picture shows. Rice and beans were typical, yet the rice was still missing something. The food is ok. I had a pollo asado burrito. Chips were fine. The variety of fresh salsas is good. Drink choices are the regular Mexican beers, soft drinks, and Mexican soft drinks. The setting if very casual but pretty clean. The service is friendly and pretty good for a casual place. Overall, I suspect this to be one of the better, more authentic Mexican restaurants in town. For a town this small and this far North, I would say its pretty good. [So, 4 stars for this town. But, 3 stars compared to similar places down South (SF, Oakland, LA). read more

El Chipotle is the best Mexican restaurant I've been to outside of Mexico City. The owner, Marcos, is a consummate business person and a true professional, but he is also an excellent cook. He believes that good food can only come from the heart - cooked with love. He uses family recipes that he grew up with in Mexico and I cannot say enough good things about this man and this restaurant. You are lucky to have this establishment in your fine town. Go there often for delicious beef ribs, carnitas, camarones, house made guacamole and authentic, hot, fresh and delicious Mexican cuisine. I'm so glad I called El Chipotle to cater my business lunch! Just went for lunch and was very disappointed with the service and food I received. I had a 40 minute lunch break and this restaurant was just a couple minute drive from my work. I ordered only a cup of pozole and a tortilla. The restaurant only had 2 other people there. My waiter did not bring me water or napkins, and I waited over 20 minutes for a very simple order -- pozole is pre-made and poured from a pot. I went to ask if I could make the order to-go, because I would not have enough time to eat it at this point, and the waiter finally went to check on my food. My bowl of pozole was cold, probably because it had been sitting for a while. Disappointing lunch and very poor service. read more

What a disappointment it was today when my sister and I went for lunch as we usually do at least once every visit I make. I ordered the Combination Plate #11. 2 Chili Rellenos $12.99 when I received my plate it looked like 2 crepes filled with a thin white cream sauce and a green chili. It tasted like an omelette with a chili in it. No seasoning at all. I asked my sister what she would do and she said she would return it. I brought it to the waiter and explained I had ordered Chili Rellenos. He said that was Chili Rellenos I said I've never had one made like that and that I didn't like it and could I have something else. He picked up a menu and tapped his finger on the menu and said the trouble is people don't read the menu. I said I read it very plainly #11. 2 Chili Rellenos and that's what I expected but it's not what I got so I'd like to return this He grabbed my plate and left me standing there. I returned to my table. He ignored me for the rest of our visit So much so that when my sister tried to ask for another tortilla he just walked off. Previous to this visit we have enjoyed sitting out on the patio and eating here. We have also recommended your place to others. I think he needs to be talked to about good customer service.
