I had reservations, for a Sunday night, so being seated wasn't an issue. We ordered the guacamole tableside as an appetizer, and the steak fajitas and shrimp tacos as entrees. The guacamole was decent. The temperature of the mix was a little too warm for my liking. The consistency was also a bit bland. The table salsa, however, was the preferred dip due to its smoky and spicy flavors. The steak fajita comes out sizzling, as it does at almost every other tex mex restaurant. The accompanying toppings are standard, but the cook of the steak, is where it shines. It's both juicy and flavorful. The shrimp tacos were also well flavored. The plates were small which was cool but here is the catch. Nothing was good or remotely enjoyable. The worst part about this all is how do you mess up tacos. I never had bad tasting tacos in my life. They somehow managed to screw this up. Drinks were terrible. 4/5 of drinks were straight mixer. The last one was just a cup full of vodka. Confused did they forgot to add the vodka to the other 4 drinks? Lastly, we were there for an hour. The waitress stated we need to leave due to management asking tables to a 2 hour limit. I used to come here every Sunday for the bottomless brunch, it's a great deal, but the quality of the food has gone down. I know that this is during Covid and so Yelp is like, be considerate. But the problem is how this overly pretentious restaurant dealt with seating and covid and mask regulations. I was tremendously uncomfortable with how no one was wearing masks and there was no covid vaccine check at the door and we were seated far too close to the other guests/tables. The waitress did not check in often enough and came across as unhelpful. We asked for a different table because it was so loud - both from the voices of the other guests and from the TERRIBLE electronic music that was constantly blasting through the overhead speakers the entire time we were there. There were too many people in the restaurant, too many people in line to get in, and even though we had a reservation, we had to wait in the dine-in line because it was too tightly packed to tell the hostess we had a reservation. The bathrooms were clean when I went but the whole place has this pretentious air about it, and if you're going to be a restaurant in Georgetown with prices like that, you better make a halfway-decent margarita or at least some good tacos: but actually the margaritas I got, the standard house margarita, was one of the worst I've had in my life, no mix at all, mostly water and some tiny bit of tequila, it was terrible; and the steak tacos' flavor was laughable, very bland, underseasoned, and (again) very pretentious and not worth its own price, plus the sauce that was provided with it had a bad flavor with a throaty spiciness that didn't taste good. I'd like a liiiitle more chorizo personally, but the flavor profile is totally there +Shrimp ceviche: Not good. The shrimp were very cold and gummy +Al pastor tacos: Very good!! I love the refried black beans +Lamb tacos: A little bland for me, I wouldn't order these again +Habanero salsa: Be sure to ask for this if you are a heat seeker but beware because it is SPICY. I've visited El Centro on multiple occasions while in the D.C. Area. The location is great and the bottomless brunch can't be beat. The first time my friends and I visited, we had exceptional service. All of our orders were brought out in a timely manner and if something was missing, our server quickly corrected his mistake. After our first visit we raved about this place to all of our friends and always pointed people in this direction if they asked for a good brunch place. It is with extreme disappointment to say that our first experience has since not been matched and the service has only been on the decline. This past Sunday we went for brunch and four of my ordered items never made it to the table. Our server had no interest in providing more than a nonchalant shrug in response. We ordered multiple drinks and only the first round made it to us. We were then informed as if we haven't gone through the bottomless brunch experience multiple time without any time limits, that we weren't allowed to stay more than two hours. That would be an understandable time limit if it were stated on the website or menu. It would be even more understandable if we had received at least decent service and more than half of the dishes and drinks we ordered. I sincerely hope that El Centro is just going through a rough patch and that they quickly convert back to their amazing service and provide a beautiful experience like they once did because we loved this place so much. My second time back around in Georgetown and had my mind set on this place. From the outside looking in, it seems pretty small and cramped, but it was actually a whole lot bigger than I thought. They have an upstairs with another bar, a lot more seating and an outside balcony. What makes this place even better is that they have happy hour on the weekends! Their original lime, strawberry and mango margaritas are all $5 until 7 pm. Although not the best margarita, it was only $5 so it was decent enough. They have other select drinks on hh and a few food specials as well...make sure you ask. Like any good Mexican place, they gave out complimentary chips and a roasted tomatillo salsa (can't go wrong). To start, I ordered the nachos which consisted of queso, pico de gallo and refried beans- a solid appetizer for two people...next time I'll have to add the carnitas. It wasn't on the menu, but saw someone else order it so I inquired. For the entree, I ordered the chicken fajitas which was seasoned in an achiote citrus herb marinade. It was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. My complaint would be that they brought out the appetizer at the same time as the entree even though it was ordered 10-15 minutes apart. The appetizer did come out slightly cold. I would definitely come back again for happy hour. It is lively place that serves good Mexican food. read more

The pork tacos were good but I found the pork to be a bit dry and the taco was a little cold. The flavor was what made this taco doable. The pickled onions and sauce really gave it a good kick. Honestly pretty terrible. Wouldn't let us in at 10:30 because my boyfriend was wearing sneakers. We were here for a group event and they wouldn't allow us entry even though friends of ours had entered 10 minutes previously wearing sneakers and shorts. Security guards were really rude. Didn't bother to even try the beans. The servers caused confusion. There were several servers delivering and asking about food orders they were already taken. After my experience here, there isn't a doubt in my mind that I have some Hispanic heritage in my genes. I don't know if it's Mexican, Colombian, Cuban, Dominicano, Boricua Moreno. Yo no se, pero I know it's there because I love the culture, especially great food like what was served at El Centro DF. I came here, late afternoon, on a beautiful Sunday with some friends of mine. We opted to take advantage of the beautiful weather and dined on the rooftop patio. In loved the wooden influence that was used on the decor. it really gives off a great rustic vibe.The server was extra accommodating and even brought umbrellas close to our table to ensure that the sun wasn't beating down on us (this really made me feel like the royalty I've always known I was). We lucked out and not only came during happy hour, but it also turned out to be the last day of DC Restaurant Week. The food gawds were definitely shining their approval on this outing, so we decided to fully indulge in both. The Restaurant Week deal included a choice of queso fundido or guacamole (since there were 3 of us they allowed us to get both for no extra cost), an appetizer, a tacos or entree, and a dessert all for $35. Now normally when you attend a restaurant week, it's known that when you get these 3-course meals you can expect the portions to be smaller than what they normally are. Well this is not the case at El Centro because it didn't look like the chef skimped anywhere on these plates. The restaurant started us out with a very smokey salsa and chips for the table. It was tasty, but unfortunately was not in the least bit spicy. The queso was delicious and came with three different salsas to pair with it. We asked for medium spiced guacamole, but once again were at a lost for why the spice wasn't invited to tango with our taste buds. I had the seafood tamal, which is definitely a seafood lover's dream. I was blessed to try one of my friend's calamari as well that came with three different types of sauce. The mango sauce was definitely my favorite on his plate. So much that I helped my self to multiple pieces of his calamari (I even bravely stole one of the pieces with the tentacles). For my main course I went with the Chile Relleno. I loved that it came with a protein in it so that it wasn't too much of an overload of cheese like i've seen done at other establishments. It was done beautifully and the sauce surrounding it was a great touch. As full as we were, we saved enough room to dive into the beautiful dessert options. The flan was done perfectly and had beautiful strawberries on top, but the churro is the real winner winner here. It was amazingly light and airy, and was served with possibly the best caramel sauce I've ever laid my tongue on. This was a great trip and I will definitely be returning to see what El Centro's brunch talmbout (the real test of an establishment's strength in my opinion). The only thing left to make this a 5-star restaurant for me, is for them to turn the heat up on my taste buds. read more

I actually really like this place for drinks and happy hour...they have happy hour everyday from 4-7 with $5 drinks and apps. It is definitely my go to, but this past weekend I also tried it for dinner and it was pretty good! I wasn't expecting it to be good at all so it took me by surprise that no one in the group complained about their food! First the Food: Guacamole: The guacamole was actually so so delicious.
