A wonderful hidden gem in the heart of Burbank. Located across from the Warner Brothers lot, El Carpintero is one of a kind! Parking may not be ideal but drive around once or twice and you are bound to find a spot. This little hole in the way is nothing short of spectacular. The staff greets you upon arrival and you just find a place to sit. No fuss. I was there for breakfast and order the Huevos rancheros that come with rice, beans with melted cheese, side of sour cream and a dollop of guacamole. Also included is tortillas. My husband order the chilaquiles with chorizo. The food taste like it came straight from grandma's kitchen. It was delicious. It's a lot of food and the price point was pretty spot on. Keeping in my location, location, location. For the two of us along with our two drinks, a bottled coke & squirt, it was roughly $28. You can't beat that!!! Try them out. It is not always easy to find great Mexican food in Los Angeles , it really depends where you are. In this area (Burbank/East Valley) i know of no better example than El Carpintero. Its a simple, single family run place with excellent, authentic food made 100% from scratch. Im almost 40, been in CA since 83.. this is what most Mexican restaurants were like 20-30 years ago. Not too easy to find them now (again depending on location, its true there are more in other parts of town). the valley is sadly lacking but we have El Carp. very good chile rellenos, taquitos, breakfast, pretty much the standard choices you often see but made very fresh. Great spicy salsa. The heat level varies but its usually a strong medium, sometimes a little hotter. Oh also its a comfortable place and they're super friendly. read more

We came here based on the yelp review and ordered chicken fajitas and carne Asada tacos. The salsa that came with the chips were good but everything else was bland. The chicken with the fajitas had no flavor and was over cooked , the vegetables had no salt or anything. Probably the worst fajita Ive ever had. The carne asada was also over cooked. At most, the cost of ingredients for this very typical, average, and ordinary burrito is around $2. No one should charge $13 for a chicken burrito, that's just wrong. Seems likely that other menu options are both delicious and fairly priced, so this review is for people out there who are looking for a simple burrito. My mom and aunt both ordered it. One chicken and one shredded beef they were bomb. I like this restaurant a lot. I get take out from here at least once every couple weeks. I usually get the beef burrito. Great burrito with tender beef and a very good cheese and ranchero sauce topping. Served with beans and rice (no beans, double rice for me). Overall, quality food at a fair price. The owner is a really nice guy, too. Always there and always working hard. It is right across the street from Warner Brothers, so this would be a good place to get lunch if you're working at the studio. It's a small place, with probably only 20-25 seats, so it may get pretty busy at lunch. If you want Mexican food, give this guy some love rather than going to the Taco Bell near there! read more

I discovered this spot about 6 months ago through a friend. I love it! Food is so good I oversee the fact they don't serve alcohol. I have tried the Enchiladas Suizas, Enchiladas de queso, Fajitas de camaron ( eventhough I am not a seafood person), Carne asada plate,Albondiga soup, and I dont remember what else :) The food is very good! It is authentic Mexican food. I have been to most popular Mexican restaurants in the Valley/LA since I was born and raised here, this place is definitely the real deal. I will never go back to Don Cuco's or Barragan's. Their food is perfectly seasoned and extremely satisfying. I like to order something different each time and I have yet to be disappointed. The chips are a bit greasy but you will still scarf them down with the delicious spicy salsa. The Horchata is just right. It's not too milky or watery and just a hint of cinnamon. My boyfriend always orders the same plate, Carne Asada that comes with a cheese enchilada, rice and beans. If I had to recommend one item (tough), I would suggest the Albondiga soup. It's simple and not overwhelmed by ingredients. I cant wait for it to be chilly so I can pick some up. If you can't decide, the owner has great suggestions. The owner is the gentlemen who takes your order and is the cook as well. Very friendly and remembers my boyfriends usual meal all the time :) Extremely reasonable prices, I would say inexpensive considering what part of town this spot is in. This place is awesome. I have been going there at least once a week for lunch over the past 3 years. The food is great, not greasy, consistent and the service is always great, Since I go regularly Hector (owner) Marisela, Veronica and Lupita pretty much know my order. It is a small place, so come lunch time, they are sometimes really busy and the you may have to wait, but the servers are always extremely polite, attentive and accommodating. I have yet to ever hear/see an unhappy diner. The prices are very reasonable (I rated it at $11-20 including tax and tip). i grew up in the valley and have never noticed this place until i started working down the street a year ago. i really like this place. it's a hole in the wall, with a friendly staff, and the service is quick for people who only have an hour but want to go to a restaurant.
