When I went up there the young guy just didn't even look at me and brushed me off saying just wait. So I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and wait a few more minutes. Nothing. So I decided to forget about it and just get a refund and leave but no. The guy at the register asks "did you go to the counter and tell him?" I said yes and it's been 20 minutes. He just brushed me off as well and said just wait. At that point I was just fed up and said to my friend let's go. My friend handed the receipt to the barista and we just walked out. Not a big deal, they let you know there is a time limit, but maybe they should keep the service flowing so that doesn't happen. The interior decorator here did a great job with the time warp back to the mid 20th century. Cool vibe. Food was ok. Perhaps using old recipes from the time period is not so good for a tourist? I wasn't really impressed with the food, but I don't have a cultural link to Milanese food to begin with, so I don't think I was fully able to appreciate it. If my grandmother made this when i was a kid, perhaps it would have been better, but the meal was lost on me. There are plenty of spots to grab a good meal, I'd only recommend this place if you have a fond memory of the menu items or you really want to time travel and post to social media.

I stopped in after looking at the Galleria D'Italia, a space with free exhibits owned by Banca d'Intesa. This caffe has a warm wood interior. You may order at your table any of the food or drinks and the waitstaff will bring it to you. I spent a countless number of times at de Canto because I had just window-shopped along the Via Montenapoleone or had visited Rizzoli in the Galleria nearby or just wanted an oasis of quiet in this mad, chaotic city that was away from the crowds. There is no copperto so you don't pay extra to sit or stand. It's copperto free! I enjoyed having a cup of tea in each visit. If you order a coffee, you get a small piece of Venchi chocolate - a nice treat! Tired from shopping, from visiting the Duomo, from your crazy co-workers or sweetheart who has been nagging you all day, stop by de Canto. You will leave refreshed and feeling very zen.

Not sure why our other party got Salmon at an Italian restaurant in Italy but to each his own. If you want a glass of wine you only have two choices, white wine and red wine. No other available. This is probably because the restaurant doesn't carry large inventories of wine due to their small size and cost. Overall no way is this above an average restaurant. It's just okay. We asked our server recommendations and he suggested a Chianti and Mamma's Ravioli. Since it seemed apparent that Mamma, or at least her family were on site, we agreed with both. They came quickly along with a lovely bread. The Chianti was a lovely house wine and paired well with the ravioli. While the ravioli portion wasn't large, they were wonderful! There was no rush to get us out even though we did not order dessert. We have no idea when we might be back to Milan. However, having been treated like good friends, we would surely want to return to this GEM of a restaurant.
