But a nice flavor and a good portion size. Then i moved on to the beet salad, which was my least favorite. A dish I enjoy at a lot of restaurants, all with different plating/approaches, this one was clunky, the beets were cut thicker than usual, plated with large proportion dwarfing the citrus and the cheese was presented in medium size encrusted balls. It lacked elegance or delicateness, the flavors didn't really meld as they should. Hubs and I then moved to the main course. I had the crispy gnocci app as my main, which was fine, nothing special and hubs had the catch #2 a tile fish that was just ok. We finished our drinks, opted for dessert elsewhere. They've been around a long time, so I'm sure we will try again in another couple years.

They are inattentive, rude, borderline fraudulent, and they attempt to be intimidating. As we sat down, our server launched into a long pitch about how the chef will not cook a steak more than medium, and how he - would - cook it blue if that was what we wanted. This was a lengthy sales pitch. I specifically asked if the chef was willing to serve a steak that was cool and red (my definition of blue), and our server confirmed this. So based on that, I ordered steak. Unfortunately, when the steak arrived, not only was it overcooked, but it was poorly cooked in that it had a ring of about half an inch of totally brown meat, then another quarter inch of light pink, and then starkly transitioned to bright red. This is what happens when you put an ice cold steak into a hot pan. The steak was definitely not blue, and more like medium rare or medium, given how much brown and pink it had. I asked our server if this is what the restaurant calls blue, more for future reference - since it was late in the evening and I didn't feel like wasting food, I wasn't going to send it back and ask the kitchen to remake it. The server went back and had a lengthy conversation with someone in the kitchen, and then the manager came out and at first said that I should have ordered it blue. When I said that I had asked for blue, he said, "Okay well that's how we do our blue steaks." I was a bit annoyed by the dishonest sales pitch that our server had made before we ordered, so I might have visibly rolled my eyes. But I wanted to just make the best of it and eat in peace. Unfortunately, the chef had other ideas. He came up to our table, stood in what he probably intended to be an intimidating pose, and asked - very aggressively - "Is there a problem with the steak?" I said it was cooked rather more than my preference, which was disappointing given the lengthy sales pitch about how this restaurant supposedly did not overcook steaks. The chef launched into a lecture about how "rare is a temperature" and "the health department has rules" and "you can't get a steak blue while still getting it to the minimum temperature unless you sous vide it or reverse sear, and that takes too much effort." So basically, the chef admitted that this restaurant, which boasts "a passion for craftsmanship and creativity" and supposedly serves Mishima Reserve American Wagyu, puts less effort into a steak than I do when I cook one at home. Clearly, the chef's intention was to intimidate and humiliate, as well as pull the power move of "I will serve you poorly cooked steak and how dare you not like it." It was about this time our waiter (who had been insisting this whole time that "We would consider that [brown steak with a thin red stripe in the center] rare"), came over to ask if we wanted to order more wine (which we had been considering). After this treatment, though, my husband told him politely that we would not be ordering any more. A woman who had been sitting with the chef, who we took to be the owner or manager, uttered an audible "Wow," as if it were somehow unusual after a breakdown of relations such as this not to order more. My husband said "'Wow,' what?" in a mild tone? She gave no response. Kitchen mishaps happen, and sometimes steak ends up overcooked. That's not the end of the world. It's better if a restaurant fixes it, but if they're not going to fix it, they should at least accept that a customer might be dissatisfied, rather than lecture and berate a customer for having the temerity to have an adverse opinion. In the end, nothing was done either to satisfy us, nor to compensate us for the poor meal (which was quite expensive when tallied up), nor to assure us this would not happen again. I would advise avoiding this restaurant.

I ordered the "Florida Boil" and it had (from memory) six different seafood types, and was fantastic at every bite. (My only quibble is that they put a lot of Blue Crab meat in the bowl, but it all slides to the bottom of the broth and it's very hard to fish it all out.) Others had a variety of seafoods and one of our party had the Prime Rib which (his words): you could eat this with a spoon it's so tender. Now, I personally would never order beef at a seafood restaurant, nor would I order "the catch of the day" at a steakhouse, but I'm impressed that Florida's Seafood is able to serve up excellent beef *and* seafood from the same kitchen. They have a huge selection; if you can't find something here to please your palate, you ain't hungry. Parking is a little bit of a pain, so be prepared for that. But the most impressive thing to me is that this place, while huge inside, is very clean and -- most importantly -- doesn't have any odd smells. Sometimes restaurants, especially waterside, can have a musty-mildewy odor. Not here! Sometimes seafood restaurants can have a lingering oily-greasy funk in the air; Not here! I was very impressed with how fresh and clean it was. Definitely a "Highly Recommended" on my list!

Fabulous! I've been twice and the food is excellent and the staff attentive and friendly. My girlfriend was with me the first time and she's a tough sell. She swears her ceviche is the best she's ever had. I had the beef stew and it was a superb study of very tender beef and a wonderful cilantro base. Last time out I had the skirt steak and my friend had the beef stir fry. His repeated bleats of delight very nearly distracted me from the best skirt steak I've ever eaten. Do not be put off by the utilitarian decor of the place, the food will delight you and the chef and his wife will make you feel right at home. Go! read more

Five starts out of Five!! I was in town for work and was looking for a Latino restaurant. I was overjoyed to find a Peruvian restaurant nearby. Couldn't decide between the chaufa, el lomo saltado or one of their ceviches. The owner/chef, Bruno, recommended the spicy ceviche mixto so I went for it. Absolutely amazing. So fresh and flavorful. I paired it with some tostones, just to be able to scoop the ceviche and the ceviche sauce/juice. An absolute gem. Had a great conversation with Bruno about life and the universe, which made it a very enjoyable lunch. Will definitely come back and try some of their other dishes. read more

On my first visit we loved the large choice of Ceviche on the menu. My wife was delighted with the Grilled Fish Filet and my Ceviche '4 colores' was unique & delicious! We also enjoyed the Peruvian Beer. The unassuming décor didn't preclude a very warm reception from the hosts. Altogether a wonderful experience. Ideally located close to the Pier we'll probably visit the Corner Stone Plaza (Publix) often since it now harbors several excellent Ethnic restaurants. read more

Now that I have dined at so many Latin establishments, I feel I am starting to discern the good, the bad, and the horrific. Recently I found myself in Rockledge walking into the unassuming Tipico Café Latino. The place didn't look like much to me at first, and since the most obvious definition of "típico" in English means "typical," I was concerned. Later when I found out that "típico" when referring to food is more about how such a dish represents the most famous local flavor of a region, the name made perfect sense. The food prepared here is the real deal and it's truly outstanding. Don't let the ambiance of this small saloon deter you. Elise is the owner and personally sees to the comfort of her guests. She and her chef are from the Dominican Republic, and their website states that Dominican cuisine has been influenced by indigenous Dominicans as well as settlers from Spain, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Canary Islands, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti (next door on the shared island of Hispaniola), and Hungary. They further indicate that flavor contributions have been made by Sephardic Jews, slaves brought to the Republic by the French in the 17th Century, and freed Blacks who fled from the United States in the 19th Century. From the Menú Típica Latino, I ordered the Típico Fried Platter, and I strongly suggest you do the same. It has everything: Fried Pork, Fried Chicken, Longaniza (Spanish sausage), Salami, Fried Cheese, Casava, and Tostones. Amazing! As the Dominican Republic is only 57 miles southeast of Cuba, it is not surprising that there are also a few expressly classic Cuban dishes on the menu. One of these is the Ropa Vieja/ Shredded Stewed Beef and Vegetables. The rice accompanying this "típica" Cuban dish was cooked perfectly. The beef itself was so tender, its juices so flavorful, that for a moment I experienced zoanthropy, becoming one of Pavlov's dogs salivating just remembering this experience. I pull myself together, remembering I am a human man, and wipe the slobber off my jowls with a towel. THIS IS A BIG BOY MUST TRY!
