Típico Café Latino (Típico Latino Restaurant), 566 Barton Boulevard, Rockledge, Florida- 5-Stars Although the Hispanic population in Brevard County as of 2022 is a mere 11.6%, their restaurants must make up 35% of the restaurant inventory. Now that I have dined at so many Latin establishments, I feel I am starting to discern the good, the bad, and the horrific. Recently I found myself in Rockledge walking into the unassuming Tipico Café Latino. The place didn't look like much to me at first, and since the most obvious definition of "típico" in English means "typical," I was concerned. Later when I found out that "típico" when referring to food is more about how such a dish represents the most famous local flavor of a region, the name made perfect sense. The food prepared here is the real deal and it's truly outstanding. Don't let the ambiance of this small saloon deter you. Elise is the owner and personally sees to the comfort of her guests. She and her chef are from the Dominican Republic, and their website states that Dominican cuisine has been influenced by indigenous Dominicans as well as settlers from Spain, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Canary Islands, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti (next door on the shared island of Hispaniola), and Hungary. They further indicate that flavor contributions have been made by Sephardic Jews, slaves brought to the Republic by the French in the 17th Century, and freed Blacks who fled from the United States in the 19th Century. From the Menú Típica Latino, I ordered the Típico Fried Platter, and I strongly suggest you do the same. It has everything: Fried Pork, Fried Chicken, Longaniza (Spanish sausage), Salami, Fried Cheese, Casava, and Tostones. Amazing! As the Dominican Republic is only 57 miles southeast of Cuba, it is not surprising that there are also a few expressly classic Cuban dishes on the menu. One of these is the Ropa Vieja/ Shredded Stewed Beef and Vegetables. The rice accompanying this "típica" Cuban dish was cooked perfectly. The beef itself was so tender, its juices so flavorful, that for a moment I experienced zoanthropy, becoming one of Pavlov's dogs salivating just remembering this experience. I pull myself together, remembering I am a human man, and wipe the slobber off my jowls with a towel. THIS IS A BIG BOY MUST TRY! The Big Boy says, "Go see Elise, try the Típico Fried Platter, and, oh yeah, bring your appetite."

Wow! Puerto Rico has come to Brevard County. This restaurant is definitely a spot to check out. From the empanadas to the trifungo everything we tried was delicious. I will for sure be back to try new dishes and desserts. The service is great!Everyone is very polite and quick. Portions were just right, I had enough for my lunch the next day .

Did anyone else brave the rain last weekend an attend @321_foodfest ? When I heard @hotpinktheband was performing I knew that my love for music and food would allow me the courage to attend even with bad weather! Here were a few of my favorite vendors of the night. @keyswings brought the fire with their #loadedfries and blazin Asian #wings! @cypress.table killed it with their spin on a meatball sub and last but not least @tipicolatinorestaurant nailed it with their #empanadas ! The event was awesome and the band brought down the house my little one would agree! . . #goodfod #foodfest #yum #money #foodphotography #foodie #brevardisbeautiful #spacecoastdaily #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocal

The ropa vieja was awesome. I've been struggling to find a good Latin place to eat (that's not Mexican) and I'm glad I found típico café Latino!

Came here randomly, and had the Cuban sandwich, and loved it. It was even a hit with my 7 year old, who made me post this review.

I used to go to Cocoa Beach every year growing up. When my mom got sick with stage 4 cancer this past year and decided that she wanted to eventually have her ashes scattered there, we took one more trip together as a whole family while everyone was still around. My wife reached out to the hotel and a couple of businesses nearby with our story. Kelly invited my whole family in for a free meal, and showered us with love, warmth, and generosity of spirit unlike any other business---or frankly, stranger---than I ever encountered. We wanted to repay her for her kindness, so we picked out some cute hats from her shop, but when we went to pay her for them, she ended up giving us those too, and throwing in a deck of cards for my son. Lastly, after walking us over to her next door neighboring business, The Fat Donkey, to do the same (she had talked to them earlier), Kelly had such a moving, long conversation with my mom. I'm not sure what they talked about, but it was unbelievably clear that we all felt the same way about Kelly. Please please please go to the Tiny Turtle. Spend your money there. Give this business your love. Tell the waiters that you heard the food was good and the owner was even better. This is the kind of business that is not only bringing good food to people for a good price, but is bringing good to people, period. Thank you, Kelly, for all that you did for my mom and for my family. I know that it may not seem like much for strangers reading this review, but the generosity and kindness and beautiful caring words from a stranger when we are going through a hard year was much more impactful than what people know. I'm hoping that it will be a long time until we see you again, but we will most certainly be back to the Tiny Turtle.

We walked in and were greeted by a very nice gentleman who treated us spectacularly. We had our pick of tables..... we were also the only ones in there. We ordered the Cuban sandwich, and the chicken plate with rice and beans. I'm going to jump right in: The black beans tasted like they'd dumped the entire cumin condiment jar in by mistake. The cuban sandwich had the wrong ingredients and was odd tasting. The chicken breast was chewy like I'd been in a microwave. And the kicker....... The rice was at least a day old and reheated. This is unacceptable. I understand maybe some things were from the day before as often black beans can be, but not every single item. Not for a restaurant. This is your one job. We quietly left most of our meal, paid our bill and left never to return. The worst part was feeling duped. The one waiter and the one cook there acted like this was a great meal cooked to order, and they'd done all this work super fast. As fast as a microwave could warm it up. Gross. I'm not sure what was happening behind the scenes but that one meal cost you return customers.

From the first bite, the flavors hit perfectly. The meats were seasoned and cooked just right, layered with fresh toppings that brought balance and texture to every mouthful. There's a richness to it, but it never feels overwhelming--just straight-up satisfying comfort food done right. Now, I'll be honest--the bread was slightly on the soggy side. But here's the thing... it didn't take away from the experience. If anything, it soaked up all that flavor, and once you leaned into it, it worked. Every bite still delivered. Pairing it with a Coco Rico? That was the move. The coconut sweetness cut through the savory flavors of the sandwich perfectly--it's one of those combinations you don't realize you need until you try it. Even though I ordered pickup, the experience still stood out. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and gave off that genuine "you're family here" vibe that you can't fake. 10/10--absolutely recommend.
