Forever and Ever... El Burrito has been at this location for what seems like forever. This little corner property at the corner of Piikoi and Kapiolani has resisted change and gives you a glimpse of what the surrounding Ala Moana Center area was once like- before the high-rise bldgs started to dominate the neighborhood. Parking is basically on the street. They are currently takeout, but hoping to do indoor dining again. I would stop by for a bite to eat when I had lunch with working friends when my appointments were downtown. The authenticity of the food could be challenged but this pretty much holds true for so many restaurants. Many restaurants make the motherland dishes with a pinch of large local touch. What I do know, the foos is enjoyable and the service great. Our go.to orders are the chicken enchilada and chili relleno plates. The sauces are on the mild side which is how we like it but they will spice it up upon request. Although the chips/salsa is not included the cost is reasonable and the serving pretty generous. This is definitely a place we enjoy getting take out from and it's a short walk from Ala Moana shopping center. When the skyline rail finally gets to Ala Moana Centet I hope El Burrito is still there to provide good local style Mexican Kau Kau to the masses. Give'um a try when in the area- support local!

Already started eating my chili verde burrito before I took this pic. Sides of rice and beans, chips and salsa

El Burrito absolutely hit the spot! I ordered the chili verde burrito and it was packed with flavor--tender pork, perfectly seasoned, with just the right kick of spice. The sides of rice and beans were fresh and satisfying, and the chips and salsa were crisp and addictive (I could've eaten the salsa by the spoonful). Portions were generous, service was friendly, and everything came out hot and fast. This place definitely knows what it's doing. I do wish they had dine in available instead of just takeout as the inside ambiance was very cozy looking but will definitely be coming back for their delicious food!

El Burrito is honestly one of the best restaurants that I have ever worked with for catering. I was referred to this restaurant by my father who used to order catering for his company and he mentioned that El Burrito is the perfect place to order catering from if you're looking for Mexican Food. The owner (bless her heart) is incredibly generous and will work with you on your budget and needs for what you want to order. It's no wonder that they've been opened for over 30 years! Compared to many other restaurants that I've called for catering, El Burrito was flexible, easy to work with, and absolutely delicious. Thank you so much for all your help and for making our party such a delight! The food was absolutely amazing, freshly cooked and tasty!

Been passing this place since I was a small kid, never tried it. Try it for the first time today pretty good and it's good. I am very happy. I tried it out. I ordered the enchilada and the Menudo. and I will order from this place again I said EL Burrito is good and I love Mexican food

Absolutely worth the trip. I'm a Texas girlie relocated to Hawaii and I miss me some Mexican food. Absolutely worth it. They could charge double for this and I'd pay it! The Employee I saw today was so sweet! Inside is clean and well kept. Plates are filled and no skimping on the meat! Side orders like sour cream are nice sizes too!

The delicious Chile Verde Pork plate. SO darn good. Meat melts in your mouth.

I live just a block away so I come here often for take out. I love the chimichangas. Whenever I get a longing for lamb, this is where I go.

He's such an attentive waiter and really knows how to talk to people. Friendly and easy to talk to. He always makes our meals enjoyable. 5 stars for just service alone! My wife and I missed dining here but we'll be coming back more often! We had our usual, which consisted of the LC Fiesta burrito, cream of corn and green Chile soup. If you've never tried the LC Fiesta burrito (under the specialty burrito section), TRY IT. You won't regret it. It comes with salad (simple yet satisfying). The corn soup is awesome as well. It comes with tortilla. While deciding our beverage, I was pointing to the Agua fresca, and AT (being attentive) brought us a cup of the strawberry one to try! This really surprised my wife and I. Such great service and it tasted very refreshing. AT also gave us a sheet of stickers for our toddler son who couldn't join us for lunch. Great ambiance, food, and service! No wonder this restaurant was voted Hawaii's best Mexican restaurant!

Once we were seated a ton more people started walking in. There is also street parking available if the lot is full. The staff members were all welcoming and even gave suggestions on the menu. The place is vibrant and fun. Once seated we were served chip and salsa immediately and WOOOW that was good. I had no idea what to order and kept going between the lunch specials (which are deals btw $12 for a not so "mini" burrito) but ended up with the carnitas plate and it came with rice, beans, pico, sour cream, and Guac. I asked for the carnitas to be extra crispy and it was sooo good. It came with a choice of corn or flour tortilla and i opted for corn. They wrapped 3 tortillas in foil and it stay nice and hot. The carnitas was crispy but not dry at all. My friends got the $12 lunch burrito and they only finished half. Another friend got the flauta and she enjoyed that as well. I got a horchata as well and it was soo yummy. I can't wait to come back and try other options with more people.

It is a small to mid sized spot, but still has a good amount of seating. Some window bar seats, and then about 6 tables with chairs and booth seats. The service style is similar to a take out spot (so very minimal), they do ask if you're dining in or taking out, but it seems like you order, seat yourself, and pick up your own food. They would wipe your table down per your request though. Also to note, they have a $3 taco Tuesday deal but it is ONLY for specific tacos AND only during specific hours on Tuesday. We weren't specifically going for the deal so it didn't matter to us, but manage your expectations if you were looking for a deal (esp since some of their tacos are quite pricey) We ordered: * Steak Quesadilla: 7.6/10 This was good, decently cheesy and the carne asada was pretty flavorful as well. * Carne Asada Taco: 7.2/10 Since it's the same steak as the quesadilla it was pretty good as well. I feel like the carne asada has more Asian flavors and spices than Hispanic. It was good regardless. * Carnitas Taco: 7/10 This was good too, similar to kalua pork. * Baja Fish Taco: 8.3/10 This was pretty solid. The fish tasted like it was good quality and the aioli (same as the camarones) was good pairing with the taco * Camarones Taco: 8.1/10 I liked this quite a lot, the cheese skirt brought a nice textual and flavor contrast to the rest of the taco, I also liked the aioli paired with it. If it had slightly more shrimp it would be even better * Horchata: 6/10, this was okay, kind of grainy. I enjoyed everything, my partner on the other hand thought most of the things were just okay. The only thing he really liked was the baja one. Also we would both note that instead of being topped with cilantro and onions, all the tacos had cabbage on top instead? (some had pico with it, some had a little bit of onion). I wouldn't mind coming back but I think my partner would rather not.

Only difference now is they are a sit down establishment serving margaritas and the like. I try carne asada at almost every Mexican eatery I stop at and this place rises to the top. Authentic taste; as if you were somewhere in Mexico. Any menu item is well flavored. That's all you need to know. Oh, their portions are huge so be mindful when ordering. If I had to pick one thing bordering negative it is the location as they are on Kalihi Street well into the Kalihi Valley. But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park! That's the only real bummer about this place and has deterred me from returning. :(

Cute little taco place nestled between a couple buildings off to the back end. They have a "double…read moreparking " lot which means if you leave before the person parked behind you then you need to wait or hope they move for you. We got lucky because it was only take out/pick up orders so nobody stayed parked behind us for long. There is also street parking. I had 3 tacos and did 2 chicken and 1 beef. They have several sauces to choose from that range from hot to hotter imo lol...a Tapatio and some other brands. Mine actually tasted great without it. The restaurant has a few tables, a couple fish tanks, flat screen tvs and just an overall cute vibe. Everything looked clean.
