I was at the Poughkeepsie Farm Project picking up my fruit and vegetable share and realize there was a barn sale going on up the hill. There was a nice little atmosphere with music and a tag sale. How wonderful to see El Azteca Mexican food truck. The owner and his wife were lovely and the food incredible. I was so happy that they were able to accommodate my allium allergy. If you see their truck around, you must stop and by the way they are available for private parties. Recommend.

We tried El Azteca at the May Fest by the River. Wanting to explore multiple vendors at the festival, my Wife and I shared 3 chicken tacos. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy. I always go for extra onions and cilantro and they definitely delivered. The line at the truck was long but the staff was cranking out food just as quickly as we were throwing them our orders. Excellent service flow and great food. Would definitely dine in or order take out. Looking forward to catching them at another festival this summer. Signed, The Happy Hour Huntress

Visited this restaurant, first time in Poughkeepsie. The interior is so beautiful and decorated with art and trinkets. We sat at a nice table in the center of the room. Great menu selection, ordered the shrimp tacos and horchata. My dad and I loved the drink containers and our food came really quickly. Overall, the food was so fresh with beautiful plating and we enjoyed our meal!

Complimentary chips/salsa w/2 hot sauces. Both were really good - the red was HOT. Service was excellent - very friendly and attentive staff. Area was bright and airy with sugar skull decorations everywhere - I loved it! Honestly I used to work in the area and am sad I didn't take advantage of this spot sooner! The food came quick and was made to order. It was my 1st time seeing a Tlayuda - it certainly didn't disappoint and was enough for 3 people. So many toppings! We got it with the pork which was out of this world. The chicken tinga tacos were excellent- double corn tortillas, radishes, cilantro, and lime. I would struggle to say I've had any better elsewhere. This meal was a pleasure and I really can't wait until I'm back in the area so I can drop in again. FYI - We left the to go box and the woman was kind enough to chase me down in the parking lot to give it back. Glad I tipped her well! A tip: parking lot is VERY tight. I think I would find a side street next time. Backing out onto Main Street Poughkeepsie is no fun especially with a red light in the way...

Blown away by how fantastic the food was! Authentic Mexican, super flavorful and generously portioned. Not a fancy place. There's sit down table service, and an outdoor area. No bar. Just really really good Mexican food with great service to compliment it. Order the Mexican street corn. It's to die for. It's the best I ever had. The corn was so juicy, and the toppings made me want to lick the plate clean. I had something I can't remember the name. It's a fried burrito basically with a spicy chicken filling, side salad with guac & sourcream and rice. It was so yummy, but after the street corn I could only finish half. We had 4 people in our party and everyone raved about the food and service. If my kid winds up going to Marist, this is going be a frequent place to catch a meal. So happy we came here! Only in Poughkeepsie for 2 days. Perfect lunch choice. I'm stuffed.

While going for Hudson Walkway found this place for lunch. It has parking facilities. Location: near Hudson Walkway, on the street, at the signal. Easy to find. Food: was hot but not good or tasty. Can see rice was old and not Mexican rice it was different rice. Also, food was not asked per pricing. Service: was quick, but no waitress just one person. Seating: 6-10 tables, indoor and outdoor seating available. A lot of windows and good lighting. A lot of drink options.

Chili relleno

Went there today (7/14/24). The server was nice and friendly, but the food was awful. I ordered the chili relleno with beef and cheese, and it was soggy and greasy. It seemed like the batter was soaked in the oil, and it was not crispy whatsoever. It was the worst chili relleno I've ever had, and definitely not worth $19! For that price I would have expected substantially more. I feel deceived by all the high reviews, but perhaps anything else on the menu may have been better?

Aqua Fresca served in a cute bag. Mango was delicious!!

This place is super casual and super cute! The aqua frescas and elote (grilled Mexican street corn) were stand outs! Staff was nice. No alcohol, but you'll survive. We'll be back.

I was really excited to come here after reading some of the reviews. We ordered the agua frescas which were really delicious and refreshing. We both wanted to try something new that we've never had before. I tried the sopes with carnitas. Basically it's like a mini tostada with filling. The shell is similar to a corn shell but smaller and softer. I expected the masa shell to be thicker. You have a choice of proteins (including vegan options!) and I ordered the carnitas which were really bland and flavorless. My daughter thought the same....she called it a simple taste. Honestly, I wanted to really love these but I didn't. It was beautiful and piled high with fresh veggies and guacamole, but I was really disappointed in the "simple" taste. I poured hot sauce just to give it a little life. My daughter said she liked her relleno. I had a taste, it was good. Again, it was not what I expected. I just expected a poblano stuffed with goodies, and it was. But it was also deep-fried in a batter which I didn't expect. Maybe that's typical...I don't know. It was good....it didn't rock my world tho. The churros were delicious. I expected it to come with a little chocolate sauce but it came with a white sweet sauce to dip into instead. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive - and the decor of the place was fun. So in summary - with so many wonderful Mexican restaurants around - it will probably be a while before I come back but they do have outdoor seating so maybe I'll come back with the hubby and give it another try.

I'll be honest, I was disappointed by my experience here. I absolutely love Mexican food and, being…read morenew to the area, was excited to see this business with an immaculate reputation on Yelp. I did come at an in-between time (around 3pm), so it's possible that this was a one-off, but it was so meh that I'm not sure I'll be back to give it another shot (if I do, I'll come right at lunch or dinner time). The good: the mole was fantastic! Even with a mediocre meal, this stood out as amazing. The portions were generous. I thought at one point the woman asked if I wanted chicken or beef enchiladas, and having never had beef enchiladas I said "beef please." It turns out, I received chicken enchiladas with a portion of skirt steak on top (see photo). Again, very generous. The decor was lively. The misses: The beans were quite bland, to the point where I was surprised...it's such a foundational element of Mexican cuisine, but they needed more spices / a touch more salt. Also, my wife ordered the veggie wrap and it was bland. It contained lots of different vegetables, but somehow they weren't seasoned. I know vegetarian burritos aren't all the craze, but when I took a bite of it, I agreed...it was just vegetables, no seasoning at all. Nice to have it on the menu for folks like my wife, but why not season them first? Maybe it was an oversight. The horchata was different from what I've had in the past...not bad, but not something I would recommend either. It was watery, lacked any cinnamon flavor, and had ground almond on top, which was interesting (maybe this is regional?). Without the dynamite mole and the generous portions, this would be a 2 star review, but I can't, in good conscience, give less than 3 stars with mole like that. But the beans...womp womp.

The menu is extensive with some Mexican plates you rarely see at most Mexican restaurants. The totopos are really crisp. The beans are well cooked and seasoned, the rice is moist, with some entrees the piquancy can be adjusted. The main dining room and uni-sex rest room is kept clean. Take-out available. Compostable and microwavable takeout containers There is some street parking.

It was about 1:30 and the place was empty though people came in and made orders to go. The waitress also seemed to be cooking in The back. The manager was also there to help us pick from their menu. We ordered our drinks and i got an horchata. This horchata was delicious and gigantic. They also brought nacho chips with beans to eat while we wait for our order and they were so good. I got a simple order of steak tacos. The meat was good and tender i do wish that their hot sauces were spicier as i prefer it spicy. We also got a plate of chicken that seems to be fried in a sweet batter. It was tasty but I wasn't a big fan of the sweet batter. There was also an order of tamales de molé which tasted a little dry butt spicy. Overall the place and food was a solid 4/5.

The major win for this restaurant in addition to the portion sizes? Their handmade flour tortillas that come on their empanadas / quesadillas -- such delicious, earthy and chewy tortillas!
