I highly recommend Eko Movers as a local moving service in the Dayton Metro! We found them through Thumbtack.com, and were immediately impressed with how easy it was to stay in contact with them, as they answer emails incredibly fast! Though their estimate was the second highest of several we received, theirs and one other were the only ones who offered a guaranteed flat rate that wouldn't change as the move progressed. To us, that was worth it's weight in gold, as we could not afford to not know how much the move would cost ahead of time! On this basis, along with the fact that they were flexible on days and ok with last minute changes if they happened, we hired them feeling confident we had made a smart choice. We also liked their focus on environmental care, and enjoyed hearing how they plant a tree for every completed move! Their movers do not smoke on the job, which I really appreciated as someone with sensitivities to smoke. They arrived the day of the move severely understaffed for reasons I believe to be out of their control, and due to this, the move ended up going quite late both days. The real mark of a great business though, is not that they do not make mistakes (we're ALL human after all!) but how they react to mistakes. That really says a lot about a business. Eko Movers somehow kept finding more movers to bring out as the day went on, both days, and the same thing with trucks. One by one, more showed up. The most impressive thing was that they kept on working and working, tirelessly, until the wee hours of the night to get the job done on time! I was thankful for that, very very thankful, as I had to clean the house we were moving out of the next days, and needed that time to be there. If I had any constructive criticism to give, I would say that some boxes (only a few really, it was from one particular closet) containing delicate things were not quite packed the way I would have wanted them packed (lacked separation and padding) however, the only thing that was broken in my whole move was a picnic basket that wasn't protected in the truck completely unrelated. They got the job done right, their way, and nothing else was damaged except for a little gash in my front door of the new house. They offered to fix the front door gash and replace the picnic basket, no hassle at all. I haven't taken them up on it, I hardly notice it. It's really small beans compared to all the other moves we've completed in the last decade where huge amounts of things were broken everywhere! The last thing I will add, is that going into this I did not realize that it was customary to provide a tip of about $20 per person, per day. With the multitude of packers/movers being brought in all throughout the day up to the last minutes both days, it made it really expensive and confusing to figure out how to tip everyone, necessitating runs back and forth to the atm for more money as more people would show up unexpectedly. It was hard to decide if tipping one person $20 for working all day and another the same for showing up in the last moments was fair or the right way to do it, but in the end we opted to just treat everyone fully and equal, to make sure they all felt valued and appreciated. We wished we would have known ahead of time how many people were coming, and what we should give them to take proper care of them! It was one of those things that we had to really think out, having never done this before, in the middle of a stressful busy time, but we are glad we did. We also ended up buying them lunch (second day only) and providing drinks and snacks both days. I fear they would have starved had we not! They certainly deserved it, they worked their tails off and were very, very polite! Just adding that to prospective clients, so if you were like me and didn't know, you know now and can plan for it better than we did. :) It's a hard job to do, after all! You've got to take good care of them! They are moving your life, after all. It's a precious relationship, if you think about it. I would not hesitate to use EkoMovers again. They got the job done at a predictable price we could afford with virtually no damage except for the afore mentioned. No surprises in the final bill minus the gratuity thing which easily ran a couple hundred more but was well earned and freely given. They really took awesome care of us, in every way possible. In conclusion, I think Eko Movers is a spectacular company with a lot of heart. They'll get the job done, and make it right, come what may! read more

What a train wreck this company is. The 3 crew members showed up without Dolly's, drills or tools. It was like picking a crew from the local unemployment line except they weren't local guys because they all were at minimum 30 minutes late to the scheduled arrival time. After we got the truck loaded and to my new house ( which for some reason took them 60 miles instead of the 40 miles that I normally drive..extra charge by the way!) they started to unload everything and quickly came to me and said ummm, I only have 3 out of 4 bed brackets for your king bedroom set. Do you have the other? Umm no! They lost 1 of my brackets, then it spiralled downhill, they scratched my brand new hardwood and walls. I submitted a claim and they responded like they cared but never took care of the damage. Please do not use this company. read more

Giving 3 stars now, will update with +1 or -1 after our items arrive and are unpacked. Needed help to load items from our 3 bedroom house into our ABF U-Pack trailer for a cross-country move. They sent over 3 guys for the job. Each of them were hard-working and courteous. I am a self-professed perfectionist, so it is difficult watching others handle our household items, but they were quick to make any adjustments or follow recommendations if I pointed something out. They worked efficiently, and only paused for breaks after notifying me they were stopping for a break (and this time was subtracted from final bill). The price quote from the head office was not wrong, but I felt that what they told me for time was quite an underestimate. While the office told me it would probably take 3-4 hours, the guys doing the actual work, during a pause halfway through, said they estimated about 7 hours... it took 8. This was not a reflection of their work, but more likely miscommunication from the office staff to me on what to expect. In the end, I would recommend this company. Our moving was a disaster and painful with EkoMovers. Per agreement they did not finish the moving job and were paid per agreement. I called Ekomovers and left messages and also spoke to customer service without response. 1. Half of the furniture with certain items moved and certain items are not moved and we have now incomplete furniture and other stuff at both houses and unable to utilize any of it. 2. There was no organization and no discipline on uploading and offloading of the furniture .offloading was done randomly and also furniture was kept randomly and we are missing several pieces and hardware to assemble 3. We have no knowledge of how to assemble it since it was disassembled by movers. Very high end furniture has been destroyed as I am unable to assemble it due to loss of hardware and pieces mixup. 4. Fridge in basement is damaged by inexperienced movers as they did not know how to disassemble it and move and one mover kept experimenting on it for almost hour or over. 5. Movers dumped the furniture in house and left without notice, they were paid and agreement was to assemble all furniture. 6. We were unable to sleep and utilize our furniture and were left with no options but to sleep on floors and due to that I was not able to work next day. 7. Moving day they were supposed to come at 10 and arrived at 3:30 and it was raining hard and it rained till 9 pm on that day in Louisville area. This is a note I sent to a guy named Randy at the main office in Ohio. My move was in CT and arranged by a guy named Dennis. I could not have been happier with these guys, would totally recommend. Hi Randy, I just wanted to write you to let you know how pleased I was with my move on Saturday, August 3rd. I had two men come to move my belongings - Chris and Joel - I believe Chris is Dennis's nephew. Both guys were very nice and were very friendly to me and my fiance. They were clean and made us feel very comfortable - they INSISTED that we couldn't help them many times, even though we were offering. The price was exactly what we discussed and the guys showed up on time, even a little early which was such a refreshing thing to happen from a mover. I know you mentioned that tipping was not necessary, but the guys did such a great job, I couldn't resist. They really made my life a lot easier. My fiance got movers on Tuesday. She booked a company that had TERRIBLE reviews on YELP (she didn't google the company name) and it was an absolute disaster. Going forward I will definitely use Eko Movers when I move in the future and I will certainly recommend your company to any friends or coworkers looking for a reputable and reliable moving company. Terrible company. They damaged items, put marks in walls, and, worst or all, drove the truck in mine and neighbors yards!!! I read all the reviews before booking and I assume you will do the same and weigh the risks. My advice is to cover yourself and take all the insurance you can. You are a transaction and your personal belongings mean nothing to them or the insurance company. I have never hired anyone for a long distance move so I would say I had a great experience until the actual moving day. The truck showed up several hours late so everything was rushed. The truck size was underestimated so based on the weight of my items, so late on a Sunday afternoon and ¾ loaded I'm told that I need a second truck (at an additional cost) and they would have to wait because only one crew member was licensed to drive. It was agreed that they would load everything and balance everything out when the second truck arrived. Because I had pets to contend with and several hours of driving ahead of me I locked up and left them with a handful of small items to go on the truck including an antique chair. They obviously closed the doors and left the remaining items in the yard as soon as I left because my neighbors held the items (including the antique chair) for me (I had to fly back and rent a one-way car). The delivery seemed to go well and I didn't detect anything until I began to unpack. Boxes of antique china had been dropped and contents broken. Antique mirror broken. Hardware to furniture taken apart all lost. Scratches in furniture. An antique cabinet leg had been broken, wrapped in packing tape and a board shoved under to hold it up - didn't notice until weeks later when the painters tried to move it. So after I tallied all the damage and got repair estimates EkoMovers wash their hands of it and defer to the insurance company who denied my appeal three times. They only offered me $60 because the insurance was solely based on weight (I was asking under $2k in compensation). The one china piece alone will be over $300 to replace. Realistically, I expected there to be some damage. What bothers me the most is the lack of care the movers showed to my possessions. Leaving items and not telling me. Damaging items and not telling me. Loosing hardware that I might need to reassemble the furniture they took apart. Hope your move goes better. read more

Would not recommend. First of all, they are very difficult to get ahold of via phone or email. We used a voucher that we purchased online only to have them tell us that the information was incorrect and that we had to pay several additional charges (a few hundred dollars more tagged on). They also had no "eko boxes" for us to use, which are what they promote as a selling point when buying the package and helps with their "green" image. We went ahead with it anyway because the move was pretty soon at this point and we already bought the package. The hired helpers were good. Two frienedly fit guys made the heavy lifting look easy. The problem seemed to be with the leadership and the guy who ran things that day. Believe he was a "friend of the owner." He didn't really help much (even though the rate was for three people we were told) as he did plenty of standing around, dissapeared for periods of time, suggested amounts to tip that I thought were rather high and stood over me as I wrote said tip amount, and rounded up the number of hours at the end. read more

Stay away from this company. They did over thousand dollars worth of damages to my player piano before it even left my driveway. Then I had to argue and fight to get $600 out of them towards the cost of repairing it. This happened June 2017. Today we went to move a couch that we had them place in an upstairs room and now decided to use elsewhere. Imagine our surprise when we found that 2 feet were totally gone. One side of the couch is sitting on feet while the other side is sitting on the carpet. The feet are nowhere to be found. I'm sorry we just now saw it as it is probably too late to get reimbursed for repairs. The company does not care about what damage they do. Without a doubt THE worst movers out there. Represented 3-5 hours to move out. It took 13. Undermanned. Nothing shrink wrapped. Extensive damages to nearly every piece of furniture. Nice guys who do the work, but it was careless as evidenced by the significant damages. Too bad. Tried to give the business to a small company. EkoMovers were fantastic. I believe we had Wes and Matt help us with our move. They were so kind and helpful and really took care of our things. Nothing was damaged. I have great confidence in them and will definitely be using them again!!! I probably will never use another moving coming other than Eko...all because of Wes and Matt!! They posted an ad on Craigslist, stating they needed a mover for a one time job. I get there, job goes alright, definitely at least a three person job, we did it with two. The customer gave us a $150 tip, and Eko movers said I would receive it later. Still no luck receiving the tip. What kind of business is this? I worked hard and they want to take it. We hired Eko Movers because it had great reviews on Angie's List to move us from Richmond, IN to Chicago, IL. One of their reps, a very personable young man, came to our house to estimate the move. He walked through the house and took inventory. We received a fixed bid of $3,447 for a 26' foot truck and we accepted. Eko knew that we had a piano that we would have a professional set up for moving and all they had to do was to load and unload it. We also eliminated two twin beds, our gardening items, and numerous household items between the estimate and the move. We, ourselves, moved a pool table, lamps, artwork, shelving, and other items ahead of time. Moving day came. Eko showed up, to our surprise, with two trucks - the 26' foot truck and an additional 17' truck and a crew of 3 extra men - we had not asked for a second truck and when we asked why, the responded, "in case". They loaded our belongings into the 26' foot truck - the crew was excellent and courteous. They got to a point where they didn't think that all of our furniture would fit and suggested using the second truck - something we did not expect. Our hands were tied at that point; the remaining items - 3 chairs would not fit. I called Randy, the manager, to find out the additional cost and he quoted $1,933, which seemed extremely high (especially when it wasn't on the initial estimate). So I rented a U-Haul (only a 20' foot truck was available) for the remaining items - 3 chairs - at a cost of $329. The movers took off and we went to get a bite to eat when we received a call from Randy saying that the 26' truck was over weight by 700 pounds and that would not work so we met the movers back at our house. The movers suggested moving our piano out (it was near the truck door and weighed about 500 lbs.) along with a few other items into the U-Haul we rented. We moved it with a couple of other items. We were concerned about the piano and they strapped in the piano and said the piano was safe and left. We drove the U-Haul to Chicago the next day and arrived at the storage unit where we were storing our belongings. When we opened the U-Haul door we found the piano had fallen on its side, breaking another box. I called Randy and he understood, but offered no relief because we rented the truck and drove it, making us responsible since the piano had been moved to our truck and driven by us - they weren't responsible even though it was their choice to move the piano onto the U-Haul truck. The following day, we were at our storage unit at 9:00 am and waited for the movers. Time passed and no movers. We finally got ahold of them around 10:30 am and found out that they had left Cincinnati at 8:00 am or so to drive to Chicago - at least a 6-hour drive. They finally arrived at 4:00 pm - we wasted the entire day waiting for them. The dock bay doors closed at 5:30 pm, so we had them quickly unload the piano and other items from the U-Haul -because the truck had to be returned by 5:30. It took about 45 minutes and I was able to return the U-Haul truck. They then went to unload the 26' foot truck. We were still working on unloading at 9:00 pm when the storage announced that it was closing at 10:00, so the crew worked faster (they had worked without stopping since they arrived). They were tired from driving and now with the time pressure made it harder for them causing them to drop a box of "Reidel" crystal glasses that shattered. We worked like crazy until about a minute before 10:00 ensuring that, at least, the heavy furniture was off the truck and stored. We had large rugs, boxes, and a number of other items still in the bay, unloaded from the truck, but not stored. We had no choice but to leave. My wife, son, and I returned (no choice) at 6:00 am on Sunday to finish storing our items - it took until 8:30 to finish. The crews that were sent were very good - Aaron, Devin, and the other guys we have nothing but good to say about them. as far as the management, "Randy", we are not happy: * They underestimated our move and needed an additional truck at $1,933 - more than 50% increase from the estimated fixed $3,447. Surprising us with that on moving day is irresponsible of management. The estimator said that one truck would work, so that's what we went with. * Sending our truck from Cincinnati to Chicago on the day of the move was irresponsible - it's normally a 6-hour drive, but on July 4th weekend, it took them 8 hours making our move-in wait until 4:00 pm. They had to unload and move our items into storage - storage closed at 10:00 leaving me to finish their job. They then had to drive back to Cincinnati - after driving and working 14 hours - dangerous and irresponsible of management. * We found a number of items had been damaged because of they way they were crammed into the truck. * The inside of their truck and the moving pads were filthy read more

The workers arrived as promised and completed the packing job I had started. I think it took longer than it should have, but not a big concern. The movers came the next day. This move was only across the street and definitely should not have taken as long as it did. I think it could have been organized better with more leadership. A terrible experience. Please do not use EkoMovers. Numerous items were broken and the compensation they gave us was about 5% of the total value of the damage. This on top of the fact that it took over a month to get the small check back even though we filed the claim on time. As for the packing and unloading process, it was apparent that out of the whole crew only a few had any experience. In addition to all of the scratched walls, dented equipment, and the damaged TV, it took them twice as long to unpack as they had estimated, they didn't keep the various bolts and brackets with the furniture they belonged to, and they had to borrow my tools to put the furniture back together. This is a great company! From the first phone conversation to the last box moved it was perfection. I dealt with Randy on the phone and he was both professional and caring when I told him that I needed my daughter's furniture picked up, stored and moved to another state. He coordinated everything perfectly. The movers showed up exactly when they said they would, and 3 months later they delivered all of her belongings on time as promised. Would not recommend truck was too small many items were left behind labor was not coordinated at destination horrible experience

I'm giving them one star because I had to rate them to post my review. I strongly recommend you get other movers. I used them to move me from Ohio to South Carolina in May and was given an estimate of $4320. I told them repeatedly I had a 1565 sq foot house and 2 storage units to move and asked them to come and look at what I was moving. Sarah, the first person you talk to who pulls you in with the low price, said they didn't need to come. I could just give her a list of items, and I did. Right down to and including approximately 355 boxes I had in storage. My estimate even said they might have to make 2 trips when moving me. Once they arrived at my house Koran, the guy in charge, immediately said they were going to need another truck. No mention anymore about that second trip. I asked repeatedly how much that was going to cost and was told not to worry about it. Long costly story short, the next morning as I was preparing to leave for SC, Koran called and informed that all my stuff was loaded on 2 26 ft trucks and 1 18 ft truck and I would need to SIGN another contract when they arrived at my new residence and pay an additional $7234 before they could unload any of my possessions. I signed and they unloaded my belongings and I disputed the charges with Discover and the PUCO but they agreed with the company because I signed the contract. As I told both of these companies, what they did may be legal under the law but they may as well held a gun to my head. And if the government continues to allow this, our society will continue to see consumers used and abused without any possibility of justice. I have been in SC for 2 months and I am still unpacking my belongings. Even though the boxes were marked as to where they were suppose to go I would say 70% of them ended up in the garage literally packed in from side to side, front to back and ceiling to floor. It didn't matter either that boxes were marked do not put heavy box on top. I've moved 5 times in 20 years when my husband was alive and had 1, yes 1 item damaged. I am now on broken, busted items number 57 and still working on the garage. Boxes have fallen over from the ceiling down. I've taken pictures of it all. I've downsized and given away a lot of belongings since my husband died and what I kept is what I really wanted to keep. The stuff broken is things I've had for 40 years and now it's gone. Oh and a large rock my husband bought me years ago for a gift when I was landscaping, they didn't bring it at all even though they loaded it from my house onto the truck. Said it weighed too much. They told me they were going to mail it to me but I've been here every day for 2 months and it hasn't arrived. The guy, Randy, who heads up the company sent me an email and asked me to call him, said he needed to confirm my address to send the rock to me. That was right after he was notified of my dispute. When I called he verified my address, which they obviously knew because that's where they forced me to pay for my own belongings To get my belongings back. Then he started in on what he really wanted to talk about the dispute. I figure the regular hourly employees aren't aware of what goes on. I believe what happened to me usually happens on the long distance moves. I hold nothing against those workers. They did what they were told. I fed them lunch and dinner when they were loading in Ohio and bought each of them their own pizza and 2 liter drink because when they showed up to unload, an hour late, none of them had had breakfast and they were not going to break for lunch. They brought nothing to drink with them and the temperature was in the 80's. I wish I had went with the first company I had spoke with. This is one of the worst experiences of my life. Hopefully it won't take to much longer to get the garage unloaded and straighten out and then they will be totally gone from my life. Don't out yourself in this situation. read more

Not a good experience! I was told the movers would arrive by 9 am, but they arrived at 11:30 am. I was told they would send a 4-person crew, but they sent a 3-person crew.
