Bread, okra, dill pickle slices and onion slices

Im always looking for the best chicken restaurant. My wife and I took the 150 mile journey to check things out. We arrived around 3:00pm and had trouble finding a place to parks. After an hour waiting we were led to a table. The waitress took our drink order for Diet Coke. They don't have coffee and they only have bottled tea. They brought a whole fried chicken with fried okra, dill pickles, onion slices and bread. The chicken was juicy with a good crisp batter. The okra was ok but a little undercooked to my liking. To sum things up, the trip was a big letdown. the chicken pieces came from a very small chicken. It took Forty five minutes to receive our dinner after being seated. Service was nonexistent after we were seated. If you don't want beer to drink, you have a choice of a small plastic cup of ice water, a can of Coke product or a bottle of tea.

Come for the town, stay for the chicken--or more likely, the other way around! Visited one of the oldest bar in Oklahoma state which opened back in 1896 & has evolved a lot over all these years. Staffs were incredibly helpful and friendly, a proper southern hospitality! Ordered couple of whole fried chicken and fried okra for the table. Chicken was fresh, served hot, little greasy at some spots & tasted very good in almost every piece except one thigh portion. Liked the fried okra with some Louisiana/Tabasco hot sauce. Don't miss to try the pickles & onion. They're yum!

Chicken was good. The service was amazing, and the ambiance is cool and laid back. We got in after the lunch rush so it was quiet but I heard this place fills fast and there can be a line to wait for a table.

I have been here so many times over the years. It is always a 10/10. The fried chicken is always so moist and the skin is flavorful. Service quick and friendly!!! Quaint, divey decor! Love this place so much!

Great history, but the Fried Chicken is way better than great! We scarfed a whole fried chicken and fried okra - until we were bloated! . There was a steady stream of locals coming in for fried chicken take-out orders. We loved the food, but note that this bar is beer & wine only. They have no liquor - and no coffee; this knocked my rating from 5 to 4 stars.

    Chili Cheese Nachos... yum!

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE NAPKIN CONTAINER MENU!!! We were visiting family in Mustang, Oklahoma (outskirts of Oklahoma City) and they insisted we had to sample the local fried chicken spot here. REALLY?!? CHICKEN??? Ain't this BEEF COUNTRY?!? Rodeos, Cowboys, Cattle drives and such?!? It's approximately 25 minute drive from Mustang, and an easy drive with no traffic. The town is small and if you don't know about Eischen's, you will completely miss it staying on the 81 ( otherwise known as Main Street) cutting through Okarche. Parking is on the street. Inside is spacious and well lit, not dark and mysterious like a typical bar can be. We arrive during lunch time and our party of 11 is able sit down right away, but place is filled and everyone is munching on the same thing... FRIED CHICKEN! Looking at the minuscule menu on the napkin container, that's the Top of Menu protein here, so looks like we are eating dat too! (The Roast Beef Sammie and BBQ Sammie weren't even a consideration for our Oklahoma Family!) Staff is super friendly and attentive! Everything comes out in a timely manner. Okay, let's EAT! EISCHEN'S FAMOUS FRIED CHICKEN: For our party of 11, we ordered 5 whole chickens! And... we had NO leftovers!!! Breading is perfectly crisp but does not taste greasy at all. Also the skin doesn't fall off on every bite either. The meat inside is moist, juicy and flavorful in every bite! Really delicious stuff! No wonder this place is hoppin' even with not much on the menu! Is this why Eischen's is the OLDEST bar in Oklahoma (established 1896)?!? Gotta be a huge factor! Worth the hype? imho... YES! CHILI CHEESE NACHOS: I loved the chili here! This was the "hors d'oeuvres" our local fam ordered and we chowed down on this! The "nacho cheese" was a lot more flavorful than the typical version that is common in California. This chili & cheese combination was so yummy I even sopped up the leftovers with the fried chicken that arrived later. Mmmm :) Shoulda ordered 2 orders of this for my family (or get the "Fritos Pie" as well) FRIED OKRA: Fams insisted on this even though I had my doubts. But, I was willing to try it, and was not expecting it to be as good as it was. The kicker was eating it with the provided pickles on the table. That made it hella tasty! I was not ready lol VERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! Nom NOM level is high! Definitely worth a trip to, if ever In Oklahoma City, OK. Your taste buds will Thank you ;)

I heard about this place when we first moved to Tulsa about 30 years ago. Decided it was time to see what the fuss was about. We visited during the week a little past the lunch rush. The only seating area that was open was full, but a table opened up within a few minutes. The staff was all business and seemed rushed. Not to worry, this is primarily an old bar with the service and decor you would expect in an old, small-town bar. We came for the legendary fried chicken. First thing we noticed was the lack of variety of sides. We ordered the fried okra which was very good and piping hot. The whole chicken was served with a side of white bread and tasty pickles. The chicken was also piping hot and had a light breading and a flavor which remined me of Golden Chick in Belton, TX. I like the chicken at that Golden Chick but was expecting more from Eischens based on all the accolades I've heard from people in Oklahoma over the years. We can say we have been but won't be making a long drive again.

    Duh? Fried Chicken
    Kelly G.

Well, to be honest it was just ok today. It seemed to take a lot longer today. I know they were really busy, but it just seemed to take like about 40 minutes to get the chicken. Then the chicken was overdone. The white meat was dry and tough. So that was kind of surprising to me. But I kept it at five stars because you can get a whole chicken for $18 which is unheard of anywhere else. I'm sticking with my comments earlier that Wanda J's in Tulsa is still the best fried chicken in Oklahoma. In my opinion. You know Eischen's is good when there is a one hour wait at 2 PM on a Saturday!!! What other place in Oklahoma has that?

    Jake F.

This place is tough to get too but well worth the wait. There is only 2 thing you must try. The fried chicken breast and the fried okra. Service is down to a science (just speak up for what you want/need). One of the top dive bar western themed kind of.

First time at the beloved Eischen's! I have heard nothing but great things, so I came in with high expectations. Upon entering, you seat yourself and our server immediately asked us for our drinks and our order. The menu is very simple and straightforward. We ordered the whole fried chicken and fried okra. The food came out really fast and fresh. The fried chicken was hot, crispy, and juicy! Some of the best fried chicken I've had. I usually don't care for fried okra, but this one was pretty tasty! Ranch and hot sauce are offered along with a boat of onions, pickles, and a boat of white bread. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant, as it is after all, the oldest bar in Oklahoma! I would love to come back if I'm ever in the area, and I'll have to try the nachos next time.

Some of the best fried chicken you'll ever have, they do cook to order and it often takes about a hour to get your food. Family friendly not a typical bar it's more of a restaurant with plenty of table seats. Service is good with friendly staff. Definitely an Oklahoma legend.

Welcome to Oklahoma's oldest bar. Welcome to one of the world 's best fried chicken. Welcome to Eischen's Bar. Who would've thought the oldest bar in Oklahoma would be in a little town called Okarche. More absurdly, who would've thought this small town holds the secret recipe for the best fried chicken which we all wanted to know. The fried chicken at Eischen's Bar is deliciously different. Coated by a thin layer of batter and fried to a crunchy perfection, the chicken somehow remained tender and juicy on the inside. The menu is short and to the point. It's all about the fried chicken and what sides and drinks you would like with it. Apparently, simplicity is a key ingredient to success. Customers drive from various towns to satisfy their fried chicken cravings. It doesn't matter which days, Eischen's Bar is always busy. While less well known, Eischen's Bar is also a tourist attraction. After a disastrous fire burned most of the original bar down, a small piece of the back bar survived. The drive to Eischen's Bar may be long and wearisome, but it's worth it because every visit to this oldest Oklahoma's bar has been nothing but spectacular.

I love visiting iconic places like this when I travel around Oklahoma. Not much to choose from but you go there for the chicken anyway. I serve family style when you order a whole chicken they ask you if you want the small okra or the large okra. Everything was made fresh and it was an overall cool experience.

Great Whole Fried Chicken and Fried Okra along with a cold beer.

We said we would be back someday to stay and it's taken us this long to return. Roman Nose State Park, named after Cheyenne Chief Henry, is one of the original seven Oklahoma State Parks. A former Cheyenne winter camp, the park is set in a beautiful canyon, surrounded by gypsum rock cliffs. Roman Nose boasts a stunning golf course, stables for horseback riding, hiking trails, WPA buildings, an enormous spring fed swimming pool and two spring fed trout stocked lakes. The Lodge, originally constructed in 1956, was renovated in 2010 to reflect the natural landscape of the surrounding area and it is gorgeous. It has a Frank Lloyd Wright feel to it. There are 22 rooms and it has its own swimming pool. There's a gift shop inside and a wall full of Oklahoma travel brochures in the lobby. There are a few snacks and beverages at the desk. The park also has Cabins, Tee Pees and other camping areas as well as a General Store that handles horse, canoe, kayak, and paddleboat rentals in addition to feeding people with a wonderful restaurant! It's a long walk from the drop off point of the parking lot to the actual doors, across the wide lobby, and down the hall to any of the rooms. After checking in, which was seamless, we chose one of hotel style luggage carts and took it all the way outside. From there, it was simply no problem; but there is no one to help you with your luggage. You are on own as far as I could tell. We had secured our Lakeside King room online using a Senior discount. If you stay on a Friday or a Saturday, you have to stay both nights; but we were staying a Sunday. The Lodge is simply stunning. So much interior wood and rock and historic photos. We found everything to be very clean which was wonderful. I would say the pool was the highlight really. We were out there for an hour or so and had this great big beautiful pool all to ourselves. Sundays are slow apparently. It was a lovely setting with towels thoughtfully provided at poolside. Perfect. We were prepared for no microwave and found a community microwave out in a hallway alcove. With only a few people staying there on Sunday, I was okay with it; but really would have preferred one in our room. We slept well. There's a ceiling fan and room darkening blinds. We were very comfortable. We did discover the next morning that the coffee maker didn't work. It wasn't a big deal as there was fresh coffee on a utility cart out in the hallway. We had missed a continental breakfast from 6 - 9. Probably our loss. The description from the desk had sounded pretty yummy; but we slept in. There is a closed restaurant where the communal living room with fireplace and deck entrance used to be. Honestly, that was disappointing to see; but we were allowed deck access through a large meeting room. The view from the deck is terrific. A sweet place for coffee, unfortunately the umbrellas aren't up. Still, the tables and chairs are in use. We checked out and drove up canyon to the General Store for lunch. I've reviewed that, too. Scrumptious burgers! We love this park and the Lodge! It's an Oklahoma treasure. https://www.travelok.com/state-parks/roman-nose-state-park

From the outside, the branding leans heavily into the Route 66 identity--logos are everywhere, setting the expectation for a nostalgic roadside dining experience. Stepping inside, however, the atmosphere takes a different direction. Rather than embracing classic Americana, the décor feels modern, highlighted by whimsical cow artwork adorned with flower crowns. It's charming in its own way, but not the vintage Route 66 ambiance I was expecting. One thing that deserves high praise is the cleanliness. The café is immaculate, from the dining room to the overall presentation, reflecting a team that clearly takes pride in maintaining the restaurant. The food, unfortunately, was less memorable. The oatmeal was overly thick and dry, lacking the creamy comfort you'd expect. Buttered toast carried an off flavor, suggesting the griddle or butter station could use a refresh. The signature pancake, dusted with a powdered sugar "66" logo, was visually appealing and easily the meal's most Instagram-worthy item, but it too was disappointingly dense. Where Cafe 66 truly shines is its service. Every staff member I encountered was warm, welcoming, and eager to help first-time visitors feel at home. Their hospitality left the strongest impression of the visit. In my opinion, Cafe 66 seems to be transitioning away from being a destination built on Route 66 nostalgia and toward becoming a dependable neighborhood café for the Clinton community. There's nothing wrong with that--in fact, it's probably the more sustainable business model. But travelers seeking an authentic trip back in time may leave feeling that the iconic branding promises more nostalgia than the dining experience ultimately delivers.

After that interaction and I got my drink, she left; nother person came and asked what we would like to eat (this was 10 minutes after our drink) , I then said I would have a side salad and mac n cheese. My mom across from me said she has friend chicken, after we gave our order we then waited 30 MINUTES...for a SALAD. Thing is I didn't mind but when I tried it, it really did taste like grass and incredibly earthy and odd and that's when I wasn't exactly happy when I waited for a extra earthy salad... My mac n cheese came, it was delicious!!!!! 15 minutes after this, my moms food came and she said it was really good too. See we loved our food besides the extra earthy salad and almost 45ish minute wait time. On the other hand, when waiting we noticed our server and multiple others would get served before us and get asked how the food was, but not us though and that genuinely had me curious and ruined the whole experience. I love the conversations and the communication like as e.g. "How is the food?" , "How are yall doing today?", these are good things; it did not happen though and we got bluntly ignored. If you work in any restaurant jobs, please have good communication with your customers.
