With a conference taking place across the street, Tucker's gave me the perfect opportunity to finally check that box. I'll be honest--burgers usually aren't something I seek out unless there's something unique about them. This was different. The Oklahoma onion burger absolutely lived up to the hype. Simple, messy, flavorful, and a great example of a regional specialty done right. The staff was courteous, the service was quick, and my food was out before I knew it. In fact, it was so good I ended up tucking my tie into my shirt to keep it out of the way. If you look closely at my photo, you'll spot my tie bar sitting on the table after I surrendered to the inevitable. The napkin dispenser's warning--"You're going to need them"--turned out to be pretty accurate. No regrets at all. If I'm back in Norman, I'll happily stop in again. If you're visiting Oklahoma and want to try something that's actually part of the local food culture, Tucker's is worth the visit.

Sadly, the Chicago dog was not that great, but OMG the Theta Burger which I couldn't even finish was the best thing I've had in years!! If I ever come back it will be for the Theta Burger. I seriously want to cry, it was so good. Sorry I didn't get a pic of the burger.

Disappointing First (and Last) Visit A new restaurant opened in Norman, and with a menu that seemed a bit all over the place, I figured, "What the hell--let's try something new." The space was clean, and the staff were friendly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The music playing was awful--loud and distracting and mismatched the vibe. Honestly, it would've been a much better atmosphere with the Thunder game on instead. We started with the Cheesesteak Eggrolls. They weren't terrible, but they were overly fried and greasy, definitely not worth the price. Then came the low point of the night: the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. My wife ordered a cup of it, and thank God she did. I forced myself to swallow a spoonful without spitting it out, but if I had ordered a full bowl, it would've gone straight back to the kitchen. I can't even describe the taste--It was some bizarre, meat-stew disaster. It resembled pot roast more than gumbo. Nothing about it felt remotely authentic. I had the "Norman Cheesesteak" for my entrée. Size-wise, it was decent, but flavor-wise? Nonexistent. It was just meat, cheese, and tobacco onions (which I'd gladly never eat again). No seasoning, no flavor--just bland and disappointing. Needless to say, this place isn't for us. Maybe others will enjoy it, and perhaps some of the other menu items are better seasoned, but I won't be back. There are too many other great places in Norman to waste another meal here. read more

The menu and the space say "comfort food," as advertised, but the quality and service say "fine dining." The menu is full of both familiar dishes and creative twists. The pork ribeye and mac and cheese side looked so simple yet tasted sensational. (The cabernet sauvignon was a perfect complement.)
