I paid a visit to this place since it wasn't too far from my hotel in OKC. It's also a Diners Drive ins and dives joint and I am committed to visiting as many of them as I can during my travels. The ride their was cool, I watched the sun set over the prairie unusual for an east coast boy. You arrive in Okarche and its like You went back in time. The place is old! Supposedly the first bar in Oklahoma or the oldest. The menus is simple. Chicken!!! That's pretty much it. Fried Ocra nachos chili Frito Pie. They make a roast beef sandwich but all I saw was fried chicken coming from the pass. You can only order a whole chicken. The place was packed for a Monday night. Chicken everywhere. It's all about the chicken here. Now it's okay chicken. I can't bash it but I have had better. Please add se spices to the flour! No that would take away the old-ness of the place and the entire town would get pissed off at the mafia looking wise guy with the black leather jacket. We were going to get a chicken to go. It took maybe 15 minutes, which is about what I expected. They weren't busy. I just sat at the bar to wait for my order. Everyone was friendly. Sometimes when you enter a place like this, it's like they turn and look at you like you came from outer space. Not so here, very friendly and obviously have their business down to a rhythm. I honestly hate writing meh reviews but, during this 2020 pandemic, I wanted to support local businesses, so... Eischen's chicken sounded great, it's been about 8 to 9 years since my husband and I had been here ,mind you I used to come here all the time in my younger years ,and after this last visit, I told my husband I probably won't go back for another 10 years. The lady said one hour, so we got there in an hour and called when we got to the curbside pickup . We waited almost 40 mins outside! But that's not the bad part, our chicken that we waited almost 2 hours for had no flavor and if you zoom in on the pics, you can see white skin where there is no seasoning or anything! We were soo disappointed, in our order of tasteless chicken! The okra was good! 22$ plus 3$ tip, and almost 2 hour wait... I would have rather went to kfc for the 20$ fill up. Went here for the second time, and it was on a Saturday. I will begin with saying that the negative reviews have to be by people that don't understand where they are or expect high end restaurant service. This a bar, but remains a family friendly place. We came in, very crowded, at noon and found a booth immediately. You seat yourself. There were bikers, farmers, a little league baseball team and the normal family groups. Our waitress came over immediately and took our drink order. ( They have beer, water or canned Coke products. Period) She was very friendly. Brought us and another table's drinks in about 4-5 minutes. We ordered the chicken, of course, a frito chili pie and some okra. In about 15 minutes it all arrived at our table by another very friendly waiter, who asked if we needed anything at all. The chicken is so hot you have to wait a couple minutes to eat it. Same with the Okra. Our grandson however dove right into the frito chili pie. Let me say this is very, very good chicken and it is cooked fresh when ordered. It comes out with bread, onions sweet and dill pickles. All complimentary. Well I've got my chicken fix for awhile. Well worth the drive to Okarche! Personally, I have no idea how people could say this chicken is dry and tasteless. I've been twice and both times it has been very fresh, juicy and seasoned perfectly. Also, this is a dive bar. In a small town. In Oklahoma. It's going to take a minute to get there. People might stare at you. Again, it's a BAR. Don't we all look at people in bars? However, I've never noticed the staring that has been referenced, I guess I was too busy enjoying myself and the chicken. This place is very simple. Soda is served in a can. Really your only other choice of food is chili. Service is iffy (I think because they are always so busy). But it's a great destination if you live in the area. Eischen's Bar is supposedly the best place to get fried chicken in Oklahoma. Eischen's Bar is located in a small town called Okarche which is about 30 minutes away from Oklahoma City. Eischen's Bar has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network. The atmosphere has a dark "hole in the wall" look to it. Looking at the menu they only have 8 items total. The majority of the items listed on the menu were more like bar style food like nachos, fritos chili pie, fried okra and etc. So, I got the fried chicken, obviously. Servicewise there was only one waitress, one food server and a bartender working. Going at the time that we did which was around noon, we had hit the lunch rush hour. So service was not given at a timely manner. Receiving our food took nearly 45 minutes. The fried chicken overall was decent. To say its the best chicken in Oklahoma City is probably going a little too far. I will say though that the fried chicken came out hot, fresh, and juicy. The skin was so crisp, but, the taste of it was just a little too plain for my tastebuds. Along with the fried chicken they give you complimentary sides of bread, onions, and two types of dill pickle chips (The sweet and spicy pickle chips were delicious.) A-OK experience overall. OMG. I was skeptical I have to admit. I've not been to a lot of places that have lived up to the hype. We heard about this place when we saw it on an app we have about restaurants that have been on TV such as Triple D. We are in the area working, and decided to check it out. I ordered the chicken (of course!) and my husband ordered the Frito pie. The chicken came out so hot from the fryer I could barely bite into it. The outside was crispy, but light, and the chicken was tasty and perfectly cooked. Not sure how they seasoned it, but it was perfect! My husband loved his Frito pie, and I agreed since I took a bite :) The sides were ok, white bread, sweet and dill pickles, and raw white onions. Roast Beef Sandwich Review!! I noticed there weren't any pictures at all of their roast beef or BarBQ Sandwich so I decided to order one. There is only one review on all of Yelp that mentions it and he said it was awful and won't be back. That was a few years ago. So I'm curious as to how it has survived on the menu. I'm visiting from North Carolina so had to get this place off my bucket list. It's a lot bigger than I imagined, with two separate dining areas along with a little arcade and gift shop. There are a ton of families, groups of 8-20 throughout this place. You walk in and seat yourself. I arrived on a Monday at 7:30 and there were quite a few open tables and spots at the bar. They've only got Bud Light and Coors Light on draft from what I can see, but several more options in the bottle. The menu clearly states no coffee and no tea. However, the table tent advertises that they now carry Gold Peak Tea, both sweet and unsweetened. So tea drinkers rejoice! They also have canned sodas. I also ordered a whole chicken, you didn't think I would actually come from NC, drive an hour from OKC, and just get the roast beef; did you? Well, the greasy, soggy flavorless mess that fell apart on that poor guy a few years ago has remained unchanged. It was over cooked chopped beef... maybe brisket if they would have stopped cooking it a few days ago. It was served in a pool of juice, leaving the bottom bun incapable of holding itself together, let alone a pile of flavorless meat. Thank God for the chicken. It was piping hot, perfectly crispy, but didn't offer much in the flavor department. But they do have salt and pepper, and that made it spectacular. I enjoyed every bite and the pickles and onions allow you to build little sandwiches with the white bread if you choose. But sometimes a bite of chicken followed by a sweet pickle, then chicken, then dill pickle, makes it kind of interesting. Glad I made the trip. I was unsure if it was worth it based on some reviews, but I would have regretted not going. I'm glad I did. And Mr. Eischen, it's okay if you only want to serve the chicken. Awesome place to sit back, relax and eat some fried chicken! Big enough place to fit big groups and small groups, there's even a gift shop which is pretty neat! Their fried okra is mouth watering! Can't forget the day I was taught to eat Eischen's the correct way; grab the bread, add some chicken, some pickles and onions and drizzle your hot sauce or ranch on top or both, fold, and eat! So amazing and unique. Expect a longer wait on the weekends but if you call it in to eat at home it's even better! One chicken will feed about 4-5 people depending on how hungry you are. The service is freaking awesome, all waiters are very attentive, nice and funny and will make sure you're cared for the whole time you're there! 10/10 read more

WARNING!!! They do NOT take debit/credit cards. The service was fairly prompt but they don't really explain to you how their pay or where to pay works either. The chicken was OK. It was way to hot to eat right away. Doesn't come with any sides. You would think for $14 you would at least get a side of fries or potato salad or something. You can go to golden chick and get lots more for a dollar more. Sigh. Is it worth the drive from the city up there? Not for me. Glad I was on a delivery up that way and had time. The chicken is good... not great but definitely good. I would think about going there during slower times. While they enforce the mask mandate; they have a hard time regulating the amount of traffic coming into the establishment. With out a doubt, my favorite fried chicken anywhere. Sorry Grandma! Order a bird with fried okra and enjoy! The chicken is seasoned very well and has a super crispy skin and crust, while maintaining a super juicy and flavorful meat. They will cook your okra a little longer if you like it extra crisp like me. Onions with a few drops of malt vinegar, two types of pickles, and plenty of bread. My husband worked in this area today, so before heading home he stopped in. He ordered the whole chicken for $14.00. Great price it came with bread, onions and pickles. It was all well packaged -We live about a hour or more away. I popped in the conventional oven for 8 mins to heat up. It was still nice crispy and juicy. The fried chicken is what everyone talks about. And it was very good. It's a thin batter with nice crisp, and great flavor. But don't expect to get the major crunchiness of fried chicken you get elsewhere. The fried okra was a major win...it was wonderful. The kids loved the nachos and even though the frito pie had chili WITH beans, it was really good. We Texans aren't used to beans in our chili. Now for the "what we learned". It's first come first serve, and there is no order to the process. It really means "first to snatch a table, first to get served". Imagine it like a game of musical chairs where there are fifty seats and 200 people waiting. It's almost first throwing tension...at least it was this night. People don't care if you were waiting before them. They'll go right in front of you and take a table. So you have to loom near people who are obviously finishing so you can swoop in. It's uncomfortable and I feel rude, but after standing for 45 minutes waiting, you do what you gotta do. Also...we couldn't figure out how people who came after us and got seated after us got their food BEFORE us. The waiter let us in on the secret: call ahead and order and tell them a time when you'll be seated. Also, bring cash. It's all they take. There is no tea. Just soda, beer, and bar drinks. I gave this 5 stars because the fried chicken was actually really good. It's not known for being unique, but rather for just being able to serve some perfect fried chicken. There was so much meat and the amount of skin on the chicken was just right. I'm so used to having lots of leftover skin and parts of the chicken that I can't eat left over, but not here. It was perfectly fried and crisp. We didn't feel all gross from eating too much fried, greasy food when we left. I wish they had more options on their menu though, they don't have fries, but the fried okra is really good. I understand that they want to keep the original menu to preserve the historical aspect of the restaurant, but more options may bring in more business. I also wish the bread they brought out was toasted! White bread tastes like dough to me when not toasted. This is a bit far from the okc metro. Been all over the the U.S., had the Chicken and Waffles, had some fancy gourmet fried chicken, but Eischen's is still the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. I am not prone to exaggeration. Okarche is one of those towns where if you blink you might drive right past it, and Eischen's is probably the only thing that could put it on the map. They fry the whole chicken for you to order, and serve it up piping hot, the chicken is so moist, even the white meat leaves juices running down your fingers. Whatever the secret is, they're obviously not telling because you can't find fried chicken like this anywhere else. Wash it down with some cold beer and give the fried okra a try too while you're out there. It's definitely out of the way, so only the most dedicated fried chicken lovers ever find it, but there is no shortage of fried chicken lovers in Oklahoma. The place is usually packed at lunch and dinner. You might get lucky and squeeze in between the rushes if you aim for 2-5. Unless the prices have recently skyrocketed I don't know why this has a two $$ rating, the whole chicken was only $9 last time I checked, and a side of fried okra $5. We've been talking about it for months to try out the chicken place in Okarche that everyone raves about. Since we were in Edmond for the day we decided to make the short drive over. Upon arrival we noticed quite a few cars parked in front. Thought to ourselves this must be good it's 230 in the afternoon. Not only that there's only 1500 people in this town. No doubt about it this place looks like it's been around since 1869. The place was about 30% full. There's 3 dinning rooms to the place and two bars. We seated ourselves And within a few minutes the waitress was already taking our order. Very simple menu just 8 items...Whole chicken, roast beef sandwich, barbecue sandwich, okra, nachos, chili, Chili Frito pie, chili cheese nachos. Waitress recommended the whole chicken with okra. Within 15 minutes food arrived. They don't provide forks or knives everything's eaten by hand. Chicken was Moist, hot, and delicious. Okra was delicious as well. We both split the whole chicken and it was enough for the two of us. Wait staff was very friendly. they wore masks and gloves when delivering the food to our table. Let me start by saying I've been going to Eischen's for over 20yrs. That being said, we won't be going back. Not because of the food, but because we were treated the worst we've ever been treated at a restaurant and witnessed what could have been the most racist, inexcusable behavior by management. The sign on the door stated they will take orders until 8:45pm and close at 9pm. Now if you put an order in at 8:45pm, it's going to be pretty hard for them to cook it and you eat it within that 15min. However, us and a Hispanic family walked in together and sat down at 8:40pm. The server took our order promptly saying we only had a few minutes to eat and leave; which is ridiculous in itself. A manager then denied to take the Hispanic family's order and talked to them like they didn't want them even in the restaurant. It was the worst we've ever seen a manager treat a customer. They eventually let the Hispanic family order but only let them have nachos. The manager then loudly said to the other staff that this family needed to hurry and get out. Trying to make a point, but not directly to that family. This is while my wife and I were still eating our food, but the manager shortly thereafter brought us our ticket and again said we needed to finish up. Couldn't have been more blatant racism and inexcusable behavior towards long-time paying customers. Zero sense is someone treating others that way (customers or not). There are other chicken places just as good as this one around OKC. read more

Finally made the trip out here with some friends after hearing so many good things. I've never been as crazy as others on fried chicken, but I started craving it this week after reading different reviews and watching videos. It's not terribly far but it's in the random town of Okarche. Coming from the Yukon area, we drove straight once we got to the main road for like 20ish minutes. Total trip was about 25-30 minutes. Parking is apparently hard to find along with seating but I think we got there at a good time around 7pm. I thought the place would be packed but that definitely wasn't the case as we got lucky and got a close spot with an empty table too. There is no wait service here. You kind of just go and grab an empty table as quick as you can. Jess M and I went with a friend who has been here multiple times. According to him, you can't be nice and just wait for a table. If it's busy, find a table of people who you think might leave soon, and ask them if they can give you a heads up when they're about to go so you can make a dash for the table. As mentioned before, we didn't have to do that. Now to the food. I'm trying not to be biased since Eischens is supposed to be something us Oklahomans are really proud of, and I'm going to be as honest as possible...I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. What did wow me is how juicy the chicken was. I'm talking dripping with juices (not oil although it was oily) from some brining process I'm guessing they have. Definitely the most moist chicken I've ever had. What kind of disappointed me was the breading. I was hoping for something crazy flavorful with a vast array of mixed spices, but no, it's a pretty basic breading they use. Really has a nice crunch, but I just feel like it's missing out on some added flavor. If you watch the "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" episode at Eischens, Guy tries to ask the owner what's in the mix. The owner tells him some of the basic ones that most dry mixes might have, then hides the rest. Guy tries it and says he can probably guess what's inside, but out of respect says he'll keep his mouth shut. They're really big on keeping things traditional the way the original brother who started it all did it, and you can tell. If you're wanting some home style fried chicken, this is the place to go. The fried okra was pretty good as well with a nice crunch to it. They also have nachos and some other brisket sandwich or something like that, but you can't drive all the way out to get that. Maybe next time though. The food is very fresh and will never be under a hot lamp according to the owner. Every order is fried up and brought straight to the table. I saw the description earlier, "burn your fingers good" and that's quite accurate. I also saw somewhere else that one chicken (they only serve by the chicken, not single pieces) and order of okra can feed 3 people. Ha, no. Maybe 3 children but not 3 adults. We ordered 2 chickens and an order of okra. It was pretty filling but I could probably knock out a whole chicken and okra by myself if I came back starving. I'm also a glutton though. If you haven't been here yet, then I'd say to definitely make the drive and taste the famous fried chicken. You truly do go for the experience of eating in the controlled chaos environment, using wax paper instead of plates, chomping on fried chicken and okra with friends, etc. I will probably be back later to give it another chance and possibly raise a star, but for the moment, I don't think the price and drive is worth more. read more
