Surprisingly not very busy. This is in the heart of embassy and financial bank area, so likely does a lot of during the day business. Old school Bavarian bistro vibe. Weiner Schnitzel is incredibly good; well seasoned and perfect light crispy batter. Meat is pounded thin enough and tender. Spaetzle and onions are flavorful and done perfectly but just a bit too greasy. The onions cover the delicate flavor of the spaetzle so it's best to have them separately (though it's not traditional). The trout is whole and flaky and moist. It's filleted at the table on request (they ask). It was done beautifully. The parsley potatoes are a fine side. The cucumber salad needs a bit more vinegar, but otherwise fine. The apple strudel is fantastic. Don't miss it. We had a Wednesday reservation, but we would have got in anyway. The mains are the star of the meal, and make it worth the visit! read more

The food is good; adequate. The problem is the service. We stopped and were treated incredibly dismissively, despite speaking proper German with the manager. One waiter took pity on us & said he'd arrange a table, much to the clear irritation of the guy apparently in charge. Once seated, our server waited on us promptly, but it was hard to get past the jerk at the front. Next time, we'll go somewhere else, it's not like you can't swing a dead cat in Berlin & find a place that serves German food or cake & coffee. Meanwhile, a guy sitting alone at a table for 4 with an empty coffee cup when we got there, left his table as we were leaving and his 8€ receipt was on the table- so they'd give up a 125€ table rather than discourage remote work warriors... interesting customer service & economic plan, I wish them well with both. read more

On our last night in Berlin we stopped by Einstein on the way back to our hotel to get the one dessert that had eluded us during our time in the city, apple strudel. Having walked by Einstein multiple times given its proximity to our hotel, we'd seen people enjoying coffee and pastries on the sidewalk. It looked like a cute place and upon walking in, we found that it had old school cafe charm with dark leather seats and wooden accents. Desserts were on display around the counter, and service was slow but polite. We tried the apple strudel and a slice of the pear tart. The strudel crust was beautifully flaky and light and the apple filling was plentiful and very tart. It wasn't warm enough to melt the ice cream but that didn't deter us from eating the ice cream! Interestingly, we liked the pear tart better than the strudel. The pears were soft enough to eat comfortably without being limp and they were perfectly assembled on the butter crust. It was so good! We were told that Einstein has one of the best strudels in the city so of course we had to check it out. Having the authentic version was a good experience but if I return, I'll try some of their other desserts which looked delicious! read more

Super slow service really keeps this place from being rated more highly. We all liked the white asparagus with potatoes (we had as an appetizer). The pike in asparagus risotto and my raviolis with spinach were very good but we were underwhelmed by the schnitzel and the goulash with the overcooked meat (a recurring theme in German cuisine.... No wonder the French can't abide by them). We loved the Kaiserschmarm dessert and I loved the mincemeat-like Apple strudel (but many at the table objected). We called 10 min ahead after visiting the Brandenburg Gate at about 630 pm and they set up a beauty white table cloth table in back. Two had goulash and two had the cheesy spaetzle...both fantastic. The cheesey spaetzle sounded weird but was actually incredibly tasty with onions cheese and fried onions on top...shiukd at least share one of these next time. We came here for dessert because we were told that it was the best apple strudel in all of Berlin. We thought it was just ok. I had this cream puff thing and it was amazing. It was a little weird that the waitress asked if she could keep the change as her tip. I was going to tip her, but it was just weird, I've never been asked that. This is a good spot for breakfast, albeit pricey - everything felt like it was inflated by a couple euros. Menus have both German and English on them, and the staff all spoke English. There are plenty of vegetarian options, as well as typical German breakfast platters, a large number of eggs dishes, etc. And the latte was surprisingly decent. I recommend it if you're looking for a tasty breakfast in this area. (Otherwise, head to Kreuzberg or Schöneberg and you'll get the same quality food for a quarter the price) read more

Very cosy outdoor-serving, with a view over Unter den Linden. The waiter serving our table was kind and kept mixing french words in his sentences. Although I think it was pure show off it was kind of authentic and charming. A sense of sidewalk cafes in Paris. The food here is quite expensive, but they also serve dishes at reasonable prices, for example lunch. I ordered the avocado sandwich with oven baked tomatoes, this was an openfaced sandwich, which would have been nice to know. It tasted really good, and was a perfect lunch. When I ordered the waiter asked if I would like French fries or a salad as a side to my sandwich. I answered the salad, but this never came. I first remembered it was missing, when we had left. My boyfriend ordered their cold cucumber soup with salmon tartare. He loved it and it was perfect for a warm day in Berlin. All in all a very nice experience in Berlin mitte. read more

This was my favorite meal while in Berlin. I was waiting the whole trip to have a quintessentially German meal, and this was everything, from ambience to food to the fact that this restaurant is on Unter den Linden. I recommend making a reservation. We made a reservation for 7pm on a Saturday by calling day-of and though the restaurant wasn't supremely busy when we went, they had set us up at a cozy table in the back of the restaurant. The walk-ins were seated close to the door where things were more hectic. We loved the rhubarb schorle, roast beef starter, the schnitzel, and the apple strudel. They also provide a dill cucumber side dish with your meal that was delicious. This is such a great place to kick back and enjoy yourself after a busy day tourist-ing! read more

Stopped by this restaurant/cafe for a late lunch. There were newspapers available for the clientele, so this should have signaled that this was going to be a slow meal. Service was pleasant, but slow. The restaurant was a pretty space. The area we were seated in had pictures of celebrities who have visited Einstein's (sadly, including Robin Williams). The food was OK to pretty good. The best thing on the menu was the club sandwich. It was big and tasted great. The middle slice of bread had herbs in it, which I really liked. The short: Good food, good ambiance, good service. High prices and you have to pay to use the restroom. Went here for a business lunch and out of 7 was the only one to not order the schnitzel. I had the Goulash which was fantastic. The dumplings were very moist and the whole meal was fantastic. The server brought bread and butter, which was also good. A heads up to westerners: Germans don't drink tap water, in fact it's frowned upon. Unless you want them to think you're related to Honey Boo Boo, when they bring you water in a bottle, just say thank you. It's strange, but that's how it is. The restrooms downstairs are .50 euros. Leave a coin on the plate. I imagine this is more to do with limiting the flow of non-patrons off the street, because it certainly isn't used to keep the place clean. I'd done some homework before arriving in Berlin and realised this place was literally a stones throw from our apartment, so when we ended up uber early for check-in we came here, supposedly just for coffee... A 2 minute walk from the Brandenburg Gate, it was easy to find and I must admit, didn't look much from the outside (uh oh I thought, the girls are going to sack me and my suggestions already!), but once inside and we drew back the curtain surrounding the door all doubt lifted. It had the hustle and bustle of a classic European café, and was warm and welcoming, and busy! There were endless photos on the walls, dark wood a main feature and funny wooden stick-like gadgets (which I later discovered were newspaper holders!) dotted about the place. It all felt very 1920's style café, or at least what I imagine it would've be like had I been around back then! We had to wait by the door to be seated (erm, the sign told us to) but sadly others didn't seem to acknowledge said sign and by-passed us to help themselves to a table...just a tad annoying. Anyway, after a short wait we were seated at a standard café table not too far from the door, and realised then the purpose of the curtain as, being December, it got a little chilly with the door open. To my delight though I spied two of my favourite things on the menu, flat whites and eggs benedict, and even though it was well past 2pm I could still have the E.B. - result! The waiter advised that as the hollandaise was made to order there would be a little wait which was fine (as long as I'm told this in advance it doesn't bother me). Seriously, one of the best eggs benedict I think I've had! Instead of muffins, they served it with 2 slices of crustless, fried bread, plenty of cooked ham, 2 poached eggs and just the right amount of lovely, fresh hollandaise, heaven... My flat white was strong and just how I like it with glasses of water brought as standard. The next day (yip, we went back another twice during our short trip!) the tables at the front were full so we were taken to an area at the rear of the restaurant. This area had white linen tablecloths and napkins, butter dishes with Einstein labels on top, fresh bread brought as standard and seemed a completely different place to where we had eaten prior, but I wasn't complaining, it was fab! Needless to say I ordered the same and was delighted to get the same quality of E.B. as the day before. On all visits, staff were smartly dressed and attentive, they ensured we were always happy (as were they) and by our third visit, definitely recognised the returning Scottish girls and made us feel like we'd been regulars for years. Easily one of my foodie highlights of the trip and somewhere I would recommend bookmarking and visiting if you ever find yourself in Berlin. read more

Great place! Everything we had we loved. I came here with my family after an afternoon of walking around. We ordered the classic fried chicken and a pound of the seasonal asparagus to share, and it was perfect. I'd recommend getting one dish per person to be filled up, but the portion sizes are larger than average. Both dishes were DELICIOUS, the food was fresh, and it wasn't too heavy. We wanted to get the schnitzel, that's what it seemed everyone was getting, but we mistakenly thought it was fried chicken and ordered that. Still great. We finished with the strawberry cake, which was incredible. Our waitress was sweet and chatty, as were the rest of the staff. The prices are a little steep, but nothing crazy in the area (right near Brandenberg Gates). Would recommend! read more

After a full day of looking at art in the not too distant museums it was time for food. Walking by, smiling faces, nice looking place, busy waiters. In I went. Nice greeting and seating, and a menu full of all sorts of food, small plates, big plates, lots of choices. The Club sandwich I ordered was huge and really delicious. The place is divided into two sections: the first is a coffee shop where you can drink coffee and light food - sandwiches, desserts, and snacks. The second is a restaurant where you can eat a full dinner. We visited both during our stay in Berlin: The coffee place was really nice but a bit crowded. The tables were pretty small but the overall experience was ok for a casual sandwich in the middle of the day. The restaurant was great. The food was authentic and local and the atmosphere and service were wonderful. We had salmon and rice with hollandaise sauce, schnitzel with mash potatoes, and cucumber salad - all were terrific. This restaurant was confusingly empty. We almost left because although there were a few tables with patrons outside, there were no diners inside. We moved from one section of the restaurant to the front because cigarette smoke was wafting in. But that is where our complaints end. The waitstaff were very nice and accommodating. We ordered the bread service, which was quite nice. I had the veal cutlet, my husband had the Vienna goulash, and both kids had Wiener Schnitzel. Everything was excellent. My veal was cooked nicely and had a lovely sauce and was served on seasoned cooked spinach, with a side of potatoes au gratin. My husband's goulash had a wonderful rich sauce. One of my kids ate the schnitzel with the cranberries, the other with the lemon, and they enjoyed the accompanying parsley potatoes. The portion of schnitzel was very generous. We finished dinner with a slice of sachertorte with cream. The food was excellent from start to finish. No idea why this place isn't doing well. Maybe people see the empty restaurant and assume it isn't good, but we beg to differ. I only rated it a 4 because I feel the ambiance would be improved with more patrons. read more

Situated in a high tourist stretch of Unter den Linden street, Cafe Einstein is a nice place to duck in for a quick bite. I ordered a chicken salad...which was ok, but can see that the breakfasts are the real reason to come here. This place has kind of a classic and traditional environment, yet at the same time, up to date. It is popular...especially with the geriatric set! read more

A great place for a sweet stop ! The apfelstrudel was really delicious and the setting has a nice Viennese touch. I was just a little bit disappointed by the Sachertorte which was not as nice as the ones I had in Austria. For those who don't have a sweet tooth, you can have various kinds of sandwiches or other savoury meals. I haven't tried them though. The place is quite popular with locals around lunch time but still quite large to find a spot. On sunny days, you can even enjoy the terrace on Unter den Linden, only a few minutes away from the Brandenburger Tor. read more

I went here with my mom when she came to visit because we were around the Brandenburger Tor and let me tell you it was a not very cute experiencie. We waited for everything forever and the prices were quite high for the things they offer. I actually found a piece of glass in my strudel, showed It to the waiter, he said nothing just took it to the funny little guy (host?) with the bow tie and he said nothing. Nobody ever apologised and they took literally 20 minutes to get us the bill (strudel with glass included). They acted all fancy but were far from it for sure. Late afternoon, on our first day in Berln, strolling back from the Brandenburger Tor, we fell into Einstein. It was a good impose. The feel of the place is more Viennese than Berlin: newspapers on spindles hanging from the wall, melange (cappuccino) served with small glasses of tap water, schnitzel, strudel, goulash and Tafelspitz. The furnishings as well reminded us of Wien: wooden chairs, marble-topped tables, and the wait staff in white shirts and long aprons. The coffee and strudel were first-rate, and the service efficient and pleasant. We had lunch here later in the week, and all the good first impressions we gathered initially were confirmed. The goulash with dumplings and the schnitzel were outstanding (even compared to Wien): beautifully prepared, simply presented, and flavorful. Service, again, was helpful and warm. As we were leaving the waitress stopped us and asked if we would like an umbrella from lost and found--it was sleeting and blowing about 25 kph outside. This gesture was especially remarkable to our minds because the cafe is located on Unter den Linden--the heart of the tourist zone. To our minds, Einstein's is the perfect place in Mitte for lunch or late afternoon coffee. read more

In a high traffic tourist area but this location doesn't feel like its entire reason for being is to satisfy visitors. Spent 10 days in Berlin October 2017. Our hotel did not include breakfast. It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to us. Ate every breakfast plus a few other meals at Einstein. All were as brilliant as their namesake. Service was topnotch and friendly. Food excellent. I have dietary restrictions and the staff accommodated all of them. My husband is a picky eater and stickler for service. They treated him like the crown prince. For food quality and service it is fairly priced. Don't miss it! read more
