Arrived at about 11:15 am and was told the wait time was about an hour. Boy is this place busy for a Wednesday. It's famous. Well this is my first time in Berlin, and I know I'll never return, so I definitely will wait. As soon as I'm seated I'll continue this review. Got seated in about 15 minutes. We're a party of six. The service excelente. Took our orders quickly and professionally. They don't poach eggs, so I had mine hard boiled. Not much you can do to mess them up. Perfect. The danish, salmon and bacon great. The coffee to die for. Great breakfast! A must go to place.

I enjoyed a couple meals at Cafe Einstein during my trip in the patio area out back and it's easy to see why this place is so highly regarded. The food was delicious, both mornings my family did various dishes including the omelette, scrambled eggs, and set breakfasts along with excellent cafe au lait which comes as separate coffee and steamed milk to combine at the table. The interior is nice for sense of old Berlin but having such nice weather made the back patio more attractive. The crowd is mostly German professionals with a handful of tourists mixed in. Service was kind and efficient, overall a great place to eat.

Stopped in this Berlin café in part for its use in the movie Inglorious Bastards, and their killer apple strudel. They lose a star for less than attentive service.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner here over Christmas! The restaurant is so charming and I love how they maintained the original character of the building. The service, food and drinks were all very good and the restaurant had great ambiance and a full dining room. Our favorites were the schnitzel and cold cucumber salad as well was the apple strudel.

Lovely classic dining room area with benches

Having gotten in to Berlin very late, I started calling around at 10pm to see who was still open for dinner. I reached the Einstein Stammhaus and they told me the kitchen closed at 11, so I rushed over. I was seated in Dominique's area, and she was over quickly to take my order. The menu has quite an interesting variety, and I was quite famished so it was game on. Rollberger beer, a tuna ahi appetizer, and Wiener schnitzel main course. The ahi tuna - these guys get it amazingly right. Huge chunks of tuna, seared lightly and sprinkled with sesame, served atop a mango chutney with microgreens and a balsamic glaze. Fantastic! The schnitzel - well, I guess Dominique took me at my word when I said I wanted the large (there is a smaller option). It was wider than the dish, resting atop crispy potatoes, and with both berry garnish and lemon available to season it with. For the last dish of the night that the kitchen made, it was absolutely perfect. Exceedingly thin, breading not too thick, and very tender. Lest I forget, it also comes with a side of cucumber salad, which was both crisp and slightly herbed, with a very clean finish. Dominique continued to be very attentive and was there whenever I needed anything, yet didn't hover over the table. The ambience is muted, with candles burning on unoccupied tables and the light turned low. With the vaulted ceilings and numerous mirrors, the place feels larger than it is, yet still intimate. This is a great spot for dinner, and I will look forward to my next opportunity to visit.

The famous cafe where they shot inglorious basterds. The apple strudel was so delicious. The apple was cut into small pieces and had a nice crispy texture to it. The vanilla sauce was great while the pastry was decent I also got an omlet which was great as well :) the price though is a bit high but well... You are in kudamm Good and fast service... And they accept cards!

I've been in Germany for three weeks and this is the best espresso, Käse toast, und erdbeerkuchen I've had -- bar none! Highly recommended!! Ich bin in Deutschland seit drei Wochen und hier gibt's der beste Espresso, Käse Toast, und erdbeerkuchen - ohne Ausnahme! Sehr zu empfehlen!

This café is famous for the apple strudel scene in Inglorious Basterds where Hans Landa is a scary basterd by just eating strudel! The strudel was lovely - it was huge, easily enough for 2 people. It was Sunday brunch time when we were there and food going to the other tables looked very impressive. We had ordered a strudel each so I was envious of the other dishes I saw coming out. The service was good and fast and the staff are very friendly. The building is impressive. Would recommend.

The cutest cafe I have ever been in! I felt like I was in a movie. Such a nice, classy ambiance. I was so happy. It's in a old building and looks so vintage inside and out. Even though it's a chain this one stands out from the rest. It's got an old timey vibe that I really liked and even the newspapers they have for you to read are on big wooden holders. Went for Christmas day brunch and it was just perfect to start off the day. Was really happy it was open on Christmas. Our waitress was really nice and helpful with my choosing of what to order. I noticed most people were getting the tier of goodies for 2, which comes on a cake tier with pastries and sandwiches and such. That looked good but decided on something else, it was bit pricey for me. I wasn't too hungry so I just ordered Wiener Frühstück which is / 2 rolls, butter, jam, 2 eggs in a glass for €5,80. For my beverage I ordered a cafe americano, which I think was about €3/4 and to my surprise they did some latte art on it. A cute little heart, which I loved. Adds a little something extra. My meal was simple but good. The bread was fresh and it filled me up. My boyfriend ordered the Kräuteromelett mit Hürtenkäse, Blattspinat und Zwiebeln which was an Herb omelette with feta cheese, leaf spinach and onions on homemade malt bread and marinated rocket salad. It looked delicious as well. All in all cute little place that I would recommend!

I really enjoyed this cafe. It's quaint and peaceful. The service is the best we've had in Berlin (or Germany for that matter). Our waitress was very gracious and attentive. Austrians are so elegant and polite. And so are their foods. Breakfast was delicious and same were the coffee drinks. Reminds us of the breakfast we had in Vienna. Everything was done professionally and with heart. Such a lovely place that lets you relax. It was perfect.

Okay okay, the main reason why i wanted to eat here is because they shoot a scene from Inglourious Basterds here! SERIOUSLY no doubt possible, doesn't matter if the food is good or not, NEED to go there! No discussion possible! I. WANT! And! I did! So Einstein it was. So I sat maybe on the chair what is touched by family Pitt, or maybe they even sat in it. I used the toilet used by family Pitt or maybe even by the master himself: Quentin Tarantino!! Whaaaa. Yes family Pitt did actually have had dinner here as well. Okay enough about that? NO! Yes yelp is about food not about some famous family who sat their asses down there. So the food, it was all quite "fancy", if you know what I mean. Like this small plate next to your napkins, for the two types of bread and butter. They have lovely wines, good ones, maybe even better ones. She sphere was awesome and romantic. It was an old house, with a lot of character and stories. If you know what I mean. Choices for me as a vegetarian where okay. Not a lot but there where some. The option I had where actually good ones! I decided to take ravioli with artichokes. It's was quit alright, not as good as I had expected But okay. The quality of the food compares to the costs aren't really in balance, read expensive. But the experience is fun though! We came in a little late so there was no time for deserts, but! That all had a reason, the big bar that situated above this restaurant: Lebensstern. They have the best cocktails in town, and they even where one of the best cocktail bars in the world! WHUT! So that was my desert, a really nice cocktail! Yum.

After reading rave reviews in TimeOut and hearing that Tarantino had spent every day there while filming Inglorious Basterds and even filmed a few scenes there, it was placed on our must-see list for Berlin. And I'm glad it was! This place is completely adorable and authentic. The waiters are very attentive and helpful at choosing from the menu, especially because they speak perfect English. We split a fish appetizer, I had the weiner schnitzel and my boyfriend had a delicious beef dish with an apple sauce like side. We also had specialty cocktails that were delicious (I have included a picture of mine). My only complaint was that it took a while to get our check, but it's better typically that they don't want to rush you out but I was so jetlagged that I was eager to get back to our hotel room.

Must haves are the Farmers ham with grated horseradish and pickles as an appetizer. The pumpkin soup was amazing with a hint of curry and the main course was the Wiener schnitzel was the star of the experience. The accompanying potato salad was incredibly delicious as well. Overall a great Austrian dining experience, I highly recommend eating here.

4.5 stars! Ottenthal was one of the restaurants I discovered while in Berlin. In particular, what…read morecaught my attention was the fact that it offered, by far, the best schnitzel in Berlin! So, given I was in Germany..and even though I never really dream of eating schnitzel days and nights, I had to stop by this place! I particularly liked that the restaurant offered pretty much very natural/no chemicals food. Everything was fresh and, shall I say, natural/organic...and they were committed to those types of ingredients. I also liked that despite a higher price point than most restaurants in Berlin, the staff were polite, friendly and relatable..and not a stucked up place at all! Now, when it came to the food, I loved all my dishes! The pumpkin soup was so fresh and Devine! The schnitzel..wow..shall I say, crisp and thin..and not oily at all! Eating it together with the side potato salad that was a lil sour and sweet made it a good combination without additional condiments for sure! Lastly, the Baumkuchen was wonderful! I had so much food that night that I ended up having to order Baumkuchen to go..and I was not disappointed at all! Good to try all the good things while in Berlin! Overall, I highly recommend Ottenthal! Sure, as the name suggested, Ottenthal is Austrian town..but hey..schnitzel can also be German! Go try it and you'd taste the differences between this vs other places! Just some minor half star off was due to price (it's slightly high compared to other options out there in Berlin for sure.but hey..tasted sehr gut!!), restrooms are down a set of stairs (pretty common for German restaurants..but I have no ideas how Germany deals with accessibility for disabled population!) and finally..the place is rather small..so make sure to make some reservations so you won't be disappointed if you showed up but couldn't get in!

I first ate here in 2011, and the food and experience is essentially the same! The food is good value, and there are a few veggie options, although it is predominantly meat-based (pork and veal especially, of course, in the form of schnitzel). My most memorable item was a starter of Styrian Bean Salad (like very large red borlotti beans), which sounds a little weird but was in fact stunningly delicious. I had it the second time and it was still as good 13 years later. On my first visit I had the Vorarlberg cheese noodles - tasty, but extremely filling, and the second time the Vegetarian Aubergine (eggplant) schnitzel. The latter worked surprisingly well, and went nicely with the salad. Staff are efficient and characterful - ours was outgoing, engaging and very funny, so treat the service as part of the entertainment (I think the other waiter was a little quieter)! A couple of courses (you won't need any more) and a beer or glass of wine will set you back around €35-45, including service.

While the main dishes were a decent portion, the dessert was HUGE! Die Südtiroler Spinatknödel: Kinda like two huge gnocchi in a nice cheesy creamy sauce. The knödels themselves were a nice mix of spinach, cheese and carbs. Though it looked like just two wouldn't be that filling, it turned out to be the perfect portion. Das Wiener Schnitzel v. Vollmilchkalb: Simple veal schnitzel. Thin, crispy, flavorful. Der Kaiserschmarrn mit Zwetschkenröster: An extremely filling dessert that the server recommended we share. Though for two people, it still might be too much. Took awhile and arrived warm, so I'm assuming they made it to order. Pretty thick chunks of pancakes. Paired great with the plum sauce and vanilla ice cream, though seems like there was a lot more pancake that toppings.
