Short story: we wanted to support a local business and buy a CD player here--a single disc unit. He interrupted us several times because he kept mistakenly wanting to sell us something else--no, not a boombox, no, not a 5-disc player....We were finally able to get a word in to explain what we wanted. He gave us a great price for a unit that we could pick up at the end of the week. We pre-paid, they didn't seem to know how to use the credit card machine (hm), and we naively ignored these telltale signs... 10 weeks later, we still don't have our player. A couple of weeks ago, he gave my husband a dusty "loaner" unit, and it doesn't even work. All we want is our money back. We never, ever want to go there again, but unfortunately, we still have unfinished business to take care of. read more

I already report this case to yelp, and I hope the owner can STOP extort users on Yelp. I felt pretty sad about the owner's serious racism(threatened to report and deport me) and overprice($200 for welding). This store is a nightmare, I cannot imagine having a worse repairing experience in my lifetime. I suggest the owner visit some psychological clinics before saying customers extorting him on yelp. I had a broken hard drive that the wire fell apart from the HardDrive, we just need a simple welding to make it work, (because we had a big fight with the owner, so I turned out fixed it on our own in our school's lab, it takes only 10 minutes...) Firstly, the store repair the harddrive before telling me the cost, although I already clearly request them call me before about the price before any repairing and I even made a n another phone call to remind them, but it turns out they still go ahead repair and tried to charge us $200 for welding(????) and even said $180 is okay. (They should tell me the estimated the price by informing me!!!!) We refused to pay and request they make the hard drive to the original situation. And we had a fight about the procedure issue, the owner didn't think they are wrong at all and even angrily asked my nationality and threatened to report and deport me. (Racism) read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Let me relate to you the experience I had here tonight. I came in to Eid's with my friend who wanted to buy some AA batteries. Eid wanted to sell the batteries to us individually, out of an open bulk pack of batteries. My friend wanted to buy a larger quantity of batteries, so Eid asked us how much we wanted to pay for the opened box of batteries, and started to haggle with us. After my friend told him that he would just come back later when they had more batteries in stock, Eid told us to get out of the store and never come back, telling us that he wasn't "in business to sell batteries." This is after another incident where this store tried to sell another friend of mine a 19" LCD monitor for $300, when the going price for LCDs of that size and quality were no more than $250. Eid's does not have good deals, and more importantly, they behave in a very unprofessional manner. I would urge you to shop elsewhere. read more

In late January, a friend and I were browsing for phone accessories. Thinking he had what we wanted, he opened the package even though we told him not to open it. When we didn't buy it, he looked at us and told us to "Get the hell out". We started to tell him that we told him not to open the package, but he kept going until he was yelling at us to "Get the f*ck out of my store! Don't waste my time!" and he finally threw the unwrapped charger onto the floor, and was gesturing with his arms. It was such an overreaction it was almost surreal. Even if Eid is having problems with his business, it is ridiculous for him to get away with not just insulting his customers, but threatening them as well. There are good reviews, but I think the problem is how unpredictable Eid is, as long as everything is fine, he's friendly and outgoing, but snaps when he's questioned... making for a pretty good description of "unprofessional", if not more. read more

I can't believe I'm giving this place five stars, but there is something so refreshingly sketchy about this place that makes it endearing in a sea of clean, bright, shiny Best Buys and Fry's Electronics. It's also the only place where I can keep my haggling skills sharp for trips to China. Eid's has a pretty wide selection of electronics, which is endlessly useful when you don't have the time to wait for an online purchase. Eid himself seems nice, if somewhat gruff, and the price he initially names is almost never fair. But after a bit of lip pursing, hesitation, and mention of "Well, on amazon.com, ...", the price will dip to something quite reasonable. The last time I was here, I wanted to buy a headphone extension. He told me it was $5, and I was actually about to willingly pay up when he said, "No, for you, $3." I smiled, opened my wallet to fish out three dollars, and then he told me, "Make it $2." I left the store happily, but really, if he keeps this up, he's going to be taking half the fun out of the experience. read more

NEVER COME HERE. This is absolutely the worst service ever I took my PS4 in to be repaired and they said it was an easy fix and the estimate would be $100 I was very happy with this but then week later I called because I have not had a reply and they said they haven't been working on it. When I asked why not they said they didn't have a control to work with it and asked me to come in at 8am the next day. I said that was fine and came the next day at 8am but no one was there and I called every number they gave me and no one would answer. I left for home and they called me later that day at 6PM!!! after that 2 weeks past and they still had done nothing to fix my PS4 so I went to pick it up as I've had enough of their nonsense then it turned out the game disk I had inside the PS4 went missing. read more

Guy's a rotten crooked. Charged me 200 dollars for a broken screen and said he'd call me when the part arrives. 3 months and several trips later, my laptop's screen is still unfixed. I went back, this time to ask for a refund. The first thing the sketchy old guy said was, "we never charge for service beforehand", to which I hold up my receipt for 200 dollars. That got him mad, he then attempted to undermine the legitimacy of my claim because I never came back since he "doesn't even remember me" from my ten visits to his store. He then tried to brush me off by picking up some random old screen and saying that's my part. When I insisted on the refund, he started sprouting off some bs about how its a communal store and how everything is my fault. He moved on to how I have a violent attitude and threatens to throw me out of his store, to which he adds, "you're from korea aren't you? You're an angry people". In the end, I had to bring up litigation to get my refund. Do not step into this shi*thole. You do not want to have to deal with this lying, racist sob. read more

this place is awful. the shady lighting and disorganized chaos of products in there make me feel like im on the set of some awful 1970s horror movie. ive been here on more than one occasion in a desperate attempt for last-minute supplies and the employees here are NOT helpful in the least. if you can finally get someone to talk to you, it will be short, rude and not helpful. everything looks used (the printer ink, the cds, etc). everything is ridiculously overpriced. in short, customer service is awful and their products look second hand but they claim they are unused. they accept no returns. even if you are in a pinch, its worth it to walk the extra 10 mins down to shattuck and not keep eids in business. they are a sad, pathetic excuse for a store. the count their cash around 4p which surprisingly looked like a lot. im surprised they stay in business. im just sayin... read more

So, there are actually two shops in this locale. Eid operates the business on the right, but then there's another shop, on the left hand side, that shares with Eid's shop only the name, floor space, and informal attitude toward pricing. If you come in and try to buy something from one side when there's no one working there (as I have done), they won't sell it to you from the other side. I'm giving two stars to the whole thing, although my gripes are mainly with the left side. A typical experience: I went in to get a laptop screen cleaner. They sold me a wipe for a slightly inflated price, but when I used it it left soapy streaks all over my screen. I went back to get some help getting the soapy streaks off. They did get them off--kind of--but they made a big deal about how generous they were not to charge me for the second batch of cleaning materials, and, when it was halfway done, they left the cleaning rag with me and blew me off ("Go home and finish the job there--you'll be fine!"). I had a similarly underwhelming experience a few months ago when trying to buy a laptop adapter. Eid's has a lot of stuff and sometimes you can get it for cheap, but it doesn't always work and the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't buy anything big at Eid's. read more

I've been in here several times, and every time I leave with a new horror story about Eid. I'm a musician, and really into hi-fi musical setups. I was shopping around the local high grade electronics stores (including SF, etc.), and I found that Eid's prices were at least 30% higher than his competition. I was looking through his catalog, and said the prices were high, and he shut the book on my hand and told me to get out. I decided that maybe I had somehow offended him, and decided to go back to give him another try. I managed to get some hardware for a computer repair from the left side, but when I asked about DVDRWs, they pointed to Eid. I asked if they had them in stock, and when he reluctantly said yes, I said I'd be right back with some cash because I had to run across the street to the ATM. He mumbled at me not to come back, and I said: "What did you say?" He responded: "I'm not here to sell DVDs! Get out! Get the fuck out!". This was after I had just spend several hundred dollars in his store. I just returned from another trip to Eid's which was similar. I'm an engineer, and I needed to build a part for an engine that included a magnet. I'm not talking like small fridge magnets, the large type that sometimes are in stereos, etc. Anyway, I asked him about it, and he said to me (this is an exact quote): "Do you think that I pay 10,000 dollar rent to sell you magnets!? You should be able to figure this out. Now get the fuck out." I'm done with Eid, and will never return. Furthermore, I will tell ALL of my friends to stay away, and hope that you do too. His customer service is the worst I've ever experienced, he is constantly insulting, his prices are high, and the whole place looks like a haven of stolen and used equipment. read more

I agree with a lot of the reviews here. Eid can be extremely rude! I went in to look for a phone charger. Eid ignores me for a good minute (the Asian lady who sells stuff across from him was nice enough though), and then finally turns his attention to me. I tell him what I'm looking for and he proceeds to the back of the store to present me with a shitty no-name brand of charger. I casually mention that I've never heard of the brand, and he says that there are thousands of brands and this is the cheapest I'll find anywhere ($15). Yea right. But perhaps he was right--I hadn't done my research, so I thought I'd go back to work and read up on that brand. I was on my lunch break and didn't have my wallet on me so I told him I would come back later after thinking about it. Here's the line you've been waiting for. He says, "You know what? Just go to the Apple store so you don't have to lie. Just buy it from Apple!" I wasn't fucking lying, motherfucker. Absolutely appalling. How does this alleged electronics store stay in business? The customer service is nonexistent and telephone inquiries are either ignored or go into voicemail. My daughter has a Dell Inspirion laptop with a defective jack. We have had it repaired FOUR times and have paid twice. Two of the repairs were "free," at $165.00 a pop. It is broken again and I am doing what I should have done, purchase a new laptop for her. At best the service is disorganized and brusque. As other reviewers have stated I have been shocked to see Eid verbally attack and curse customers who were looking at merchandise with the intent of purchasing, but had not decided exactly what to buy. I have never seen anything like that. Only in Berkeley, otherwise this guy would be out of business. Two thumbs down!! read more

This place is not for everyone. The main guy (I'm not sure if his name is actually Eid) is very blunt. He sort of has a haggler's attitude in the way he deals with people. But that's how I like dealing with store owners who have shady looking stores. His prices are very cheap and you get what you pay for. But I feel he's fair about things. Once I bought some dirt cheap computer speakers that didn't work, so he replaced them with some better quality ones. I also had my phone fixed there. It worked for a day, and then broke again, so he gave me my money back. Basically, this place is perfect if you want things on the cheaper end. read more

Eid is a solid dude who helped me get some speakers and TV systems up and running through new wiring and fixing my center speaker on my 5.1. He's also super generous: some of the cables he hooked me up with were way cheaper than I could have gotten elsewhere. And it's nice to have a locally owned place to get stuff done and pick up gear, instead of going to Best Buy or online. Definitely going back to him for any more work on my home stereo and TV, especially because what I've heard from friends is all good on the TV repair front. read more

I was in a panic on a Saturday when my computer broke. I happened to walk by Eid's and the man at the desk assured me that he could help. He called in a repair man and in two hours my computer was fixed. This man was extremely skilled. Other stores said they would have to ship the computer to another location and in 7-10 days I would have a diagnosis! What service! read more

I have purchased two laptops from them and have been dissapointed with their customer service. I dont know much about computers but got the impression they were taking advantage of me for my lack of knowledge. Part of the mouse pad button on my laptop was not working when I clicked it so I brought the laptop in. Keep in mind I bought the laptop from them just months earlier. I told them I wanted to know how much it was to fix. When I came to pick up the computer, they charged me $80 just to open up the computer and find out what the problem was! They never told me they charged labor just to diagnose the problem. I figured when they told me they would look at it and give me an estimate, that is what they would do. I regret ever doing business with this company. I did not know it at the time but there are many other stores/shops out there that have MUCH better rates and give you a much higher quality of customer service read more

I remember Eid's store in Berkeley and will continue to shop at his online store. I had one T V repaired there--he gave me a loaner so I wouldn't miss my shows. I later bought two DVD players and based on his recommendation I bought a beautiful 32" Philips flat screen TV that I couldn't find anywhere else at such a low price! This is a really cool store. There are very few places that still sell 'obsolete' electronics, and this place fills me need for old tech. My 'dumb phone' recently stopped being able to receive texts, and I am too stubborn to want to buy a smart phone. It is surprisingly hard to find basic phones anymore; I guess that their aren't that many people like me anymore that only want a phone to make calls and text only. I went to Eids and they had an old flip phone that worked for at&t for only 30 dollars brand new in the box with its charger. The man who sold me the phone was very polite and friendly, and he waited to make sure that the phone worked with my sim card before I left the store. Thank you Eids. Nice to see them back open so again there is a place in the UC neighborhood where at least you can buy simple cables and accessories for a reasonable price (unlike the $20 minimum they seem to charge at any chain store place). It's a small store so they can't have a huge inventory but if you know what you want they can get it for you. Also they do repairs which is getting almost impossible to find anywhere at a price that makes it worthwhile to not just buy a whole new item. Check them out before you spend the time and gas money to journey to the Land of Confusion in Emeryville where I don't think even the cops can follow the street signs even if you know where you want to get to. read more

The experience i had with this so called business had to be the worst I've ever had in my life, (i mean the worst). It all started with my Denon stereo , I dropped it off with an older man he seemed to be a very nice guy and experienced in audio equipment. Although i know what it needed i left it expecting a call in maybe a week or a month but i didn't receive a call at all. When i called the store to see if the stereo had been fixed,they told me they were waiting on parts, I continued calling twice a month for the next four months and got the same answer every time.That's when i decided to sell the stereo as is because i purchased a new one, the older man did not want me to take the stereo claiming it would be fixed next week but i wasn't interested. He than said they put lot's of part's on it and there just waiting for one more part, this was very suspicious he thought of every thing he could to talk me out of leaving with the stereo that made me fell (maybe there using my stereo for part's). I asked what part was replace and he couldn't tell me, so i asked to see it, he didn't want me to, he said it was taken apart and i could pick it up after 5pm. Well finally after going back and forth he let me go and find my property; there it was on the table with several other unit's stacked on top all together untouched. I told the man i don't service he didn't provide and explained to him how i knew what it needed and didn't like being lied to so far i waited 5 month for my stereo but you don't tell me the truth when i arrive. He turned to me and said he don't have to explain anything to my kind of people called me a stupid idiot ant to get the ---- out his store. I choose not to respond to him like he did so i didn't yell or curse at him i started for the door and he said go to hell and i responded telling him that's were your going because your a crook and a lier. he then called me a son of a bitch (mind you i lost my dad Feb,23 2011 and my mom is in the hospital right now) needless to say i felt terrible and walked out with my thing's. When i got to my car i was so upset i couldn't drive away for ten minute. I just wanted to pick up my stereo and he cursed me out and through me out his store for just that reason. I'm 6'2 and 220 pounds black man i could have crushed him but I'm not a violent person i didn't even raise my voice and this is the way i got treated at this store. What did i do to deserve this?
