I don't know what happened to this bakery but it is terrible anymore! The place is filthy and falling apart, leaks in the ceilings, stuff hanging off. They made the buttercream donuts way smaller, there is practically no icing on them, the ones we got were stale along with several of the other donuts, glazed sticks were hard and crumbly, and the shoo fly pie (molasses) was hard as a rock and 99% of it was the crumb topping, no molasses, which had zero flavor! This is the second time we got really bad donuts there as I thought the first time was maybe a one time thing. Their prices are high and their quality is horrible!! I'm giving a good review, but this is also a bad review. This morning me and a friend went to get a couple donuts for a coffee and road trip. Now the donuts bread everything they bake there is wonderfully delicious. The place could actually use a nice makeover and the service is generally really good although today there was a where am I going to rather large woman, grazing behind the counter and she was in beast mode. She was very rude. I don't know if she's having a problem right now, but boy is she letting every customer in front of me have it And the buddy who I was with said that I have a napkin and pretty much before he even finish she said NO! The closest you'll get to a NY style bakery here in the Valley! I've been going to Egypt Star since I moved to this area 6 years ago. The bakery is infamous among locals and for a very good reason. It's definitely kept clean in front and the women who get your order together have always been pleasant. I really appreciate that. I've had their cream puffs, eclairs, and other baked goods. When I bought my first couple of cream puffs a couple years ago, it was obvious the filling had been frozen because I crunched into ice crystals. I wonder what they'd be like fresh out of the oven, though, complete with a room full of wonderful-baking aroma. I'm patronize Kotsch's meat market so I'm there regularly but I realized I went to the bakery out of convenience not out of liking their products and haven't patronized them for months. I love coming here for their powdered doughnuts and French bread...crusty outside and soft/chewy inside. My friend from Germany always makes fun of the sliced bread you get from the standard grocery stores because it's like air, so I bought a fresh loaf of country the at Egypt star and he said it's much better! Germany is known to make great bread so if he says that the bread is great here, then take his word for it. Received an attitude and a half from an older woman with strawberry blonde hair, maybe in her 60's working at 2:45pm, Thursday, January 16th. She kept giving me and my girlfriend eye rolls and mean stares while we were deciding what to get and asking questions about what they had. OK.. this place to me is a bit weird. the baked good are hit or miss - some taste great - some taste day old old or a bit stale. I will say the ones that are good are good... some of the items that are plastic wrapped have a number written on them in marker - probably a throw away date - kind of makes you feel like why am i going to a bakery if its not fresh. There are no prices anywhere which is ok.. but when you start asking prices they have no idea what they are and they look at you a bit weird becasue you are asking , like your making extra work for them. Then they have to search thru 3 or 4 price sheets before they can tell you and i asked about 4-5 items and they needed to check the price on each item. Every bakery ive been to the people who work there know the prices of everything they are selling off the top of their head. I like to support local businesses, but I just cannot go back here. I can't tell you how many time I've asked one of the cranky ladies who work there, if the item I'm purchasing is fresh, and be told everything is baked fresh daily, only to come home and have to throw the entire contents into the trash. I don't know how they stay in business. If you happen to hit it right, and get something fresh baked, it's delicious. But don't lie and sell 3 day old buns at fresh baked prices. I normally do not write reviews, but after reading the other reviews written I realized my experience is very similar to others. I had some friends over for an evening, and figured I would get a cherry horseshoe to have with coffee. What an embarrassment when we cut into the horseshoe and it was just an empty hole, with no fruit. I have tried this bakery a couple of times, and always come back to the idea of - why? Service is generally poor, and the quality of the baked goods just keeps going down. The only thing that keeps Egypt Star in business is they are basically the only bakery in town. If they had any competition, they would be out of business in a matter of months. read more

This bakery is amazing! The inside is pretty plain but they do all of their baking onsite and the cookies, cakes and breads are delicious! You get that classic bakery smell when you walk in. Yum! If I could give half a star I would. I yelped this place while I was staying in Allentown on business and wanted to reward my employees with some delicious donuts. Well, the woman who waited on me, I believe her name was Kathy, was terribly short n rude when I was simply asking for a description of the donut selection. You would've thought I asked her to give me her kidney! I was so put off by her poor customer service and generally perturbed attitude but I am always so polite that I did not say anything and continued to order as if it wasn't happening. I could kick myself now because although the dozen doughnuts were only 8 dollars, which I think is reasonable for fresh doughnuts, they weren't worth a dime! They were terribly bland and dry!! (EMMAUS LOCATION) Ordered and PAID IN FULL for a custom birthday cake in person to employee Andrea or Adrian on 12/31/18 for pickup to surprise my wife on 01/05/19. She was very courteous. 01/04/19 I receive a call from Doris indicating they cannot prepare the icing on the cake due to lack of ingredients nor can they provide me with the same cake size I ordered. Disgruntled, I advised Doris I would again drive all the way up from Bucks County on the morning of 01/05/19 for a full refund. Upon my arrival, Andrea or Adrian avoided me and directed another employee to wait on me subsequently providing me with the refund. Unprofessional! Manager Maryann, you should take full responsibility for this occurrence and the neglect of your employees acting in such a manner. Although it was a "little problem" for me and a "big problem" for you, Egypt Star recently opened at this location taking over the helm of the Emmaus Bakery namesake. In no way, shape, form, manner or fashion should one manage any business as such. Pause for the cause and step up! (Please take a look at social media regarding this and other similar incidents with Egypt Star. Apparently this type of incident occurred more oft than not.) UNACCEPTABLE! I am 76 years old. My visits to Egypt star are to me a special treat. I love the bread and doughnuts so much. On doughnut day, I decided to treat my family to this special treat. I got one and a half dozen around 9 AM. Gosh, there were not many to choose from, just 2 glazed and 3 jelly , plenty of cream filled. SHAME ON YOU, THOSE DOUGHNUTS were NOT fresh baked doughnuts. I know what day old doughnuts taste like and so did the persons I shared them with. What an insult that you would actually try to pull such a hurtful stunt. Had a horrible experience for our first professional cake order for our daughters 18th birthday. We have always loved Egypt Star Bakery for a quick drop by to satisfy our sweet tooth, so when we were looking for a place to make our daughter's 18th birthday cake we turned to them. I called them first, the location on MacArthur Road, to make sure they could do what we were looking for and get an approx. cost because we have never had a professional cake done before. I was given an approx. cost on the phone that seemed low but with how cheap their prices on in the store, it did not surprise me. My husband and I went into the MacArthur Road location the next day to order the cake. We ordered the cake that was to be a tier cake. 10" chocolate round on the bottom, 8" vanilla round on the bottom, buttercream icing with a lot of cascading, waterfall like flowers down the cake in bright bold rainbow colors. I showed a picture of an idea of the colors of flowers. I was told I was quoted way wrong for the cake but they would honor it. We asked if it could be ready by noon on Sunday and we were told it would be ready before that, that the store opened at 8am (I think they said 8am point was they said we could come hours early that day because it would be there and ready). My husband went to the same location to pick up the cake as instructed at 11:15am. The cake wasn't there. It was at their other location and he was told that he could either wait there until someone could bring it up there or drive down to other location to get. He had to go to get other items for our party that started in two hours, so he asked them to bring it to location it was to be at. The cake is nothing that it was to be. The cake looks like it was made for a grandmother. Not a lot of roses, more older looking flowers and he can only see it from the top because of the box. (keep that in mind). We have two hours we have no choice but to take it. I call the shop and speak to the owner after I hear about how the cake it not as it was to be and I was told that the location that took our order is not to take orders, all orders are to go through the managers with pictures and lots of descriptions, a cake like this doesn't walk out of her shop under $150, her decorator can do anything but wasn't given enough information, she didn't have the appropriate pans, if we brought the cake back she could fix the crack int the cake (I had no idea what she was talking about cause I did not see the cake yet) and if we gave her another chance in the future would assure us a perfect cake. When my husband came home with the cake the top tier of the cake shifted halfway off the bottom tier and the bottom tier was collapsing, the cascading, waterfall like flowers were more like all flowers on top tier coming down all sides evenly not many roses and more like grandma flowers. I was in horrified. This was for my 18 year old, not my parents. We had to shift the cake back with our hands and call our friends to try to fix the cake. When we cut into it we think we found the problems. There was a crack in the bottom layer of the cake near the very skinny dowels (one of which fell sideways in the bottom tier of the cake) the tiers were layered unevenly and tried to corrected with a huge amount of buttercream filling and we believe the cake was made that day and rushed because it was quoted at the low price. While I understand you get what you pay for, the lack of communication and poor business practice here is what got me. I would think that when the order got to right person, I would have received a call about a few different things. One being the price from the manager or owner saying they just can't do it. Two being the lack of description of what was desired on the cake instead of guessing. You can't say that your employees did not give you the right information and you are mad at them if my information is on the order sheet and you did not bother to call and get the information yourself. Three not one person called us to let us know that our cake would be in a different location than the one that we ordered it from. People plan and expect that when they order something from a professional that they are being told the truth about pricing and quality and are left very limited options when these things happen and when you call to complain and you hear, well if you give us another chance we will make it right and more excuses doesn't help. While we will still go there for our sweet tooth fix once in while, we will never order a cake there again all of our and family and friends saw what kind of product came from Egypt Star yesterday and was just upset as we were. read more
